I agree.

I just purchased Swap Magic 3.3 (My first time using Swap Magic) and I cannot get 'Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal' to work.

I burned the game to a DVD-R and then I placed the DVD Swap Magic disc into the PS2 and then replaced that disc with the burned disc. It then says the disc is not valid. Am I doing something wrong? Is it just the game? Is there something else I need?

Somebody please help me because I do not want to waste my money and I would really appreciate anyone who could solve my problems.

Thankyou

try cd loader at swapmagicfix.com, but i don't think you need it since from what i heard SMD 3.3 have a built in fix so i think it's how you burned it or your media, what version ps2 do you have? what media are you using? how are you burning? what program are you using to burn? how fast? personally i think it's you that did something wrong my rachet and clank up your arsenal works perfect with just smd 3.3

To answer your questions:

I have a volume 9 PS2.

I am using Nero software to burn.

I don't remember what speed I used.

Could you tell me how you did it so hopefully it will work?

If it's not broken, break it.

Did you use DVD-R or DVD+R for Ratchet and Clank: UYR?

If it's not broken, break it.

you're swaping with a flip top right? the ps can't be opened via the eject button after you have loaded the swap disc. I burned R&C 3 and it plays just fine on the pstwo with sm 3.3. I always use dvd-r. but I have found dvd+r work fine also - with the new ps2 anyway.

Hello everyone. I am new to the board here and would just like to say whats up. I am very interested in getting into "Backing Up" Playstation 2 games..But I am soooo lost about this whole deal..First off let me tell you what I have. I will be backing up my games with Dvd Decryptor. I have a Dvd Burner and plan on using either Dvd+R's Or Dvd-R's..I have both..Ok..I understand you put your playstation game in your Dvd burner. Dvd Decrypt it to the hard drive then burn it to a Dvd disk.. From there I am lost..Now for my Playstation..I have a version 7 playstation with no mods what so ever. What will I need to play these burnt dvd's in my playstation..I did a search on the web and found several places where I can buy that Swap magic 3.3 cd..What else will I need to get for this to work..What if I just bought a slide card and the swap magic 3.3 cd. Could I play my backed up dvd copys?? Man look if someone can give me some insight man I would be greatfull for life..Thanks..Once again great forum..

I'm not sure what people like mprmpr1 are complaining about, because both Streetfighter EX3 and Samurai Warriors (original AND Xtreme Legends) boot and play fine for me ;)

On that note, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal works fine, too. If it doesn't work for you, you might want to grab the patch for it, which I'm told is at ps2ownz. Same applies to Mercenaries, which either needs the patch or the cogswaploader and a high-TOC disc to work. And no, Splinter Cell 2: Pandora Tomorrow doesn't work at all, but it never did. Don't know about the other games, because I was never interested in them (Bloodrayne 2, various wrestling games, Ghost Recon 2), nor do I know any friends who own them. I use Ridata DVD+Rs, btw.

zaxfire: All you need is the slide card (or fliptop) and the set of the Swap Magic CD and DVD, and you'll be set to go. That's all you'll need besides a decent DVD burner and computer for backing up your games. Make sure you burn at low speeds on reliable media (Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, and Ritek are some good examples), too, just in case your burner or console is picky.

This is for Zaxfire...

The Swap Magic 3.3 replaces the need for modchips. What you do is make a copy of a game. If you use the DVD decryptor like you said, it reads the actual PS2 disc and writes it to the hardrive. From there, you need a DVD writer. Then you use the file and write it to a DVD+R or -R disc - depending on what kind your PS2 reads. Then you use the Swap Magic discs.

By the way, there are some CD PS2 games, but not very many. When making these, you only need a disc drive that writes CD's.

To use Swap Magic, you first insert the disc (depending on what kind of disc the backup is) then once the program is running, you 'swap' that disc with your backup using the slide card or the flip top cover. The slide card comes with Swap Magic 3.3 but the flip top cover is sold seperatly or in a bundle. Then during the program, you click on 'Load Software' (or something like that) and your backup loads!

I hope this helped you, but I wanted to because I was once in the same situation as you.

If it's not broken, break it.

Hey, I am new with the SwapMagic and so far I have backed up four games. Only two of them worked.

1. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snaker Eater - WORKED

2. Need for Speed Underground 2 - WORKED

3. Shadow of Rome - DID NOT WORK
( I recieved a message saying "Not Valid Ps2 disc" )

4. Mercenaries - DID NOT WORK
( It booted to the first screen where it has the ESRB rating and you see T in a box... and just FROZE there.)

I have 3 series Ps2 with the Swap Magic 3.3. I used Alcohol 120% to make the backup of my games.

Please can someone help me on making Shadow of Rome and Mercenaries work?

Hi guys. New to all this so bear with me.
Just bought a SCPH-70004 after reading this forum ordered aswap magic 3.3 and magic switch from abroad.
I burned 4 games using dvd-decryptor on very low speed (X 2)on DVD-R media. The problems is that none of the games will work. After booting up with swap magic and swapping with the back-up, all I get is 'Not valid PS2 disc'. The games are Spiderman2, Tekken 4, Crash Nitro Cart and Smackdown. Do you think it's the media ? I am using Ridisc DVD-R.
Thanks.

how are you swapping? It sounds like you are using the eject button. That triggers the ps2 to check the dvd again. And of course it can tell it is a copy. You must swap from the swap dvd to the copy using either a flip top or the slide card method. Let me know exactly what you were doing. The copies at slow speed on dvd-r should work on all the ps2s. Some just can't read dvd+r that good.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback atom_224.
I borrowed a copy of a game from a friend of mine and it works well, so am doing everything ok. I think I must conclude that it must be the media. I am using Ridisc 8X DVD-R. The game I borrowed was burnt on Traxdata and it worked fine. Am I correct to assume that it must be the media ?? Thanks.

yep I had some generic media that were 20 cents each. great for pc and dvd video. Did not work for crap on the ps2 with games on them. I use only TDK & Memorex. I haven't had a bad burn yet.

good luck!

Havoc1: You need to get the Swap Magic patches by DVDRick for those two games. The Shadow of Rome patch can be found at dvdrick.cjb.net, but you'll have to go searching for the Mercenaries one -- it's not hard to find, though.

As far as I know, it's mainly a few really recent games that don't work straight up with the Swap Magic 3.3. To my knowledge, the games that need patching seem to be: Champions of Norrath: Return to Arms, Shadow of Rome, Mercenaries, NBA Street Volume 3, and (if you're in Europe) UEFA Champions League, which is developed by EA.

It all seems a bit fishy to me, though, since all the older games I've tested (barring Pandora Tomorrow) seem to work just fine without any loaders. I'm not the world's biggest expert on Swap Magic, but I get the feeling that certain American developers (you don't see any Japanese releases having problems; Tenchu: Fatal Shadows, Winning Eleven 8, Suikoden IV, etc. all work beautifully) are implementing protection schemes to disallow simple swapping with the 3.3. It's not a big deal to patch your backups to work regardless, but it's still kinda annoying, nonetheless.

yep it is annoying. And if they are trying to stop swap users and ignore the millions of modchip users they are wasting their time. I think it implements a second check to see if the dvd is an original. Well they could put a hundred such checks on each game. That would screw people that swap. But modchips always return the correct answer when the media is checked.

* I still wish someone could make a fix for Pandora Tomorrow! But hell, the game will be 15$ before too long.

The problems that you have it's all a question of TOC. I have a Ps2slim(V12) magic swap3.3 and magic switch this is what i use to run my backups but there's a problem the games with big TOC won't boot exemple:
Shadow Of Rome and others.
With Nba street v3 and Uefa champions league 2004 and mercenaries i did that cdvdgen and worked but with shadow of rome didn't worked with this method and not with dvdrick patch (it freezes after i start new game).
So what can i do to boot games with large TOC?
And another problem is with Ben Hur after it boot apears a message that the disk tray its open.
Can anyone help me please?
Thanks.

ok, i got mercenaries and nba: street 3 to load, by using a large TOC disc i used the second disc of Devil may cry 2 ,for those who dont know how to refresh the toc load sm 3.3 then press eject insert the bigger dvd disc then swap it with the copy, trust me it works asuming you burned it right. The only one i couldnt get to work was Shadow Of rome i tried every way different toc discs special boots but still the not a valid ps2 disc or a black screen came up, i used DVD Decrypter to check whats on the disc and saw a large dummy file i tried to copy the dvd to the hd but i always got an error bad sector and a recycling check error or something like that, So i dont know how to extract an iso image of it, im doing this on the copy i broke the original i mean scratched, i think they started putting some kind of double security check or something or are trying to fill the dvd up by putting a large dummy file, to make it more harder to copy. just my opinion.
