as sugestes on the earlier post i have successfully made it work, i used the pioneer DVR-108 and burn it at 4x on a maxtor DL disk, its not that the game is highly protected of such, its just that if you get through the PS2 screen that means the game was succesfully written to, but afterwards it all lays on the quality of the DVD brand, you DVD-RW drive and the Mod you are using on the PS2, as i siad i have a DMS4pro+toxic1.1 and burned it on my pioneer DVR-108 with maxtor DVD9+ and it works perfect no flaw what so ever.

As far as i know sony uses parallel dual layers - which is NOTTTTT!!!!!!1 supported by the dvd+r specs.

So Sony:

DISC Start DISC END
Layer0 start layer 0 end >>+
+<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<+
+>>Layer1 start layer 1 end

DVD+R DL
Layer0 start Layer0 end >>+
Layer1 end Layer1 start <<+

so its very unlikely someone burns a working copy with
dvd+rdl medias :)).

but keep throw away your money.

There are some working silver pirate working copies - but they are STAMPED!

Maxtor DL media? AFAIK only 2 manufacturers produce DL media, one being RITEK and the other being Mitsubishi Chemicals Company (Verbatim) I honestly cant see any other media being better than verb produced stuff.

Seemingly most domestic burners use a write strategy of Parallel Track Patch (PTP) (1st layer from the inside outwards, second layer the same direction) where as most pressed DVD9 and DVD-Rom are produced using Opposite Track Path (OTP - 1st layer inside to outside, second layer outside to inside)

Whether or not certain burners write different strategy or it is simply a fact that PS2's cannot read PTP (when they expect OTP)written discs isnt certain, i dont have a Benq or Philips burner to try nor the inclination and time to trawl through endless specs.

There is also information missing from the .ISO release of the GT4 image available on the internet. There is no confirmed 1:1 image.

Like many posts above keep saying, buy it, it's definately worth it.

So we came up with 2 possible reasons for no-load:
1.Becase of the modchip
2.Because of burn process
Now wich one is it ?
I'm slightlly for the burn process posibilliy.

none of you responded to "what about if you already have it on the ps2 hard drive?" forget about dvdrs wasting money, you get the same result from just using hd loader with an iso on your hd. my iso is 6 gb and its "gantgt4" i can still get to the "dont drive like this in real life" message

That is confusing.

I have both, original (chinese) and i made an image,
burned with NEC 3500ag and my console V7 with MARS2 modechip don't load neither.
On frnds console V10 with MARS3 it loads to disclaimer and then goes black screen.

We can safely assume that if the problem is replicated over both mediums then it is an issue with the images taken from original DVD9, Sony's back door protection. If u cant grab a full image, then u cant write a full image (or write the image back to a media in a way which the ps2 can read the entire disc)

Could this be a bulletproof way for Sony to protect future releases or just another backup white elephant??

We all have our theories, heard about those who claim to have made successful backups and collected more info from other forums...still we're getting no where. Fact is no one can come up with an idea of what really is the problem and how to get over it, and I mean a solution that works for everyone.

I have the Chinese original, but also picked up a pirate copy today just to see if it was for real. Believe me its real. D9 with a full 5.7GBs worth of GT4. The copy was even printed like the original GT4. No idea what brand of media they used or soft and hardware for that matter. Someone out there have got it solved and I think eventually this secret will come out. So, lets all stop fretting about this issue and face that fact that either buy the original (I feel its worth the money) or just wait until theres a solution for all these ISO images out there.

Just out of curiosity has anyone tried using Record Now Max or DX? Do the later versions of this support dual layer? I've an oldish version which produces flawless single backups every single time using the "build global image" then writing it back

P4 1400mhz, P4 2800mhz, Packard Bell 1000mhz, IBM T23 Thinkpad, X-Box matrix, PS2 Messiah 1,Sony Ericsson K700i for crappy photos on the move!!!

These silvers you talk about are Hong Kong pressed copies, created with a stamp, just like the original, these work with most modchips, they are not written to recordable DVD media.

The first backup i made was with Sonic Recordnow 7.21 with newest px engine (new name for recordnow max) I can report this didnt work.

The only recording software as far as i know where you can choose if you want to write l1 parallel or cyclic is Gear Pro Mastering. You can choose external image then point to the gt4 rel iso and say dual layer , parallel please - l0 to l1 break sector ( 1 dont know that for sure ( 1955024 is my guess :))).

i dont have a supported writer so i cant test it.

1. it is full version and no file is missing if there is missing files apache would scream "aaah, not PS2 iso" or something like that. and you can open normally with it.
2.It is not up to burning PS2 chips(Messiah,Mars,DMS...) DOESNT support copyies of DVD9 so that is the reason why it wont boot after warrning screen. only some matrix chips does support it.
3.When somebody creates vol extractor we will be able to rebuild vol files relocate LBA and it will fit on one DVD5 and everybody will be happy. soon i hope-

I noticed everyone talking about how burned copies don't work. Has anyone considered about Bitsetting? If you change the booktype before burning, it will change the DVD+R to a DVD-Rom setting. I know for a fact that the BenQ and LiteOn drives support it. Let me know if anyone tried changing the bitsetting before copying this game.

When all else fails, just take a bat and beat it senseless...

Oh, I forgot the mention that the bitsetting also supports DVD+R DL disks as well. LiteOn has a utility from their website that supports the Booktype. I use the booktype 1.3.3 since I'm using a newer LiteOn drive that supports DL.

If anyone has done this and has it working then, I think we've solved the problem.

I also noticed people talking about PTP and OTP. I think by setting the booktype, it will change it from PTP to OTP for burning DL disks. I could be wrong, but I have a strong hunch about it. Maybe this might work and solve the issue.

If anyone has tried this, let me know. I'll try it if I get my copy soon.

Joe, I actually did try...
I bought a sony DRU710A a couple of days ago, once i read about the possibility of changing the book type, I exchanged it with a BenQ 1620 drive (and a couple of verbatim DVD+r DL). I tried with the included Book Type Management tool 8.2 and set it to burn as a DVD-ROM. The results are exactly the same, freezes after the first credit screens.
BTW i have a Titan Light plus modchip...
I was kind of interested in trying with the Gear Pro Mastering software, but I downloaded the demo from the site and insted of the GEAR PRO it installs Build It 3 (a RAD application)... ???? the filename is gearpme_demo_en.exe but launches Build It installer app.

I have burned in both booktypes. There is a program to change it in conjunction with the NEC 3500ag + 2.18 firmware. The book setting program is named WinBTypeV2.exe

book type set to "DVD Rom compatible" was the only burn which got to the initial flash screen "always wear a seatbelt blah blah blah" The default book setting for +r DL didnt boot at all.

BTW, if you open the iso with DVD Decrypter, the info says:
DVD+R DL Boundary Information:
L0 Data Zone Capacity: 1.494.688
Changeable: No

could this be the break sector for PTP XOR is talking about

JoeBobby> can you explain how to work with this _new_ version of booktype/bitsetting utility? v1.3.3

Should i make change before burn? What does "write now" mean and what does "change" make?

Do you use both of these options or only one?

Readme.txt was for old version...
