Correct, except for number 3 for the same reason as we can't put it on a hdd. It would still look for the second layer.
parallel track path and opposite track path are the way data is read. Let's say you're watching a DVD movie it would read from the center of the disc (beginning) to the edge (end) then go to the second layer and read it backwards, from edge (end) to the center (beginning). That's opposite track path. Parallel track path however, can access either layer at any time if it needs information. So it doesn't go until the end and read backwards, it can jump from layer to layer anywhere within the disc.
It would be impossible to edit something automatically if we couldn't do it manually. Other than that, it is possible to do it manually but we need someone who can comprehend hex. Hex is some complicated crap too, check it out:

As ive said previously I have a basic knowledge of hex and my friend is extremely good w/ hex editing. He said he would be able to relink it. I have already browsed through several files on the disc and i feel relinking is def possible. We would however need a tool to extract and repack GT4.VOL and GT4L1.vol before we could even began work on relinking. If we could get that accomplished we would mostly likely be able to get a working DVD5.

I haven't tried it myself, but I read somewhere that the rip kit for the vol file of GT3 does not work correctly with GT4. Can you confirm this? Does the vol extractor for gt4 need to be built from scratch or is it possible to rework the gt3 one?

If you read a ways up or a few pages back it confirms it wont work w/ a previous rip kit but I will confirm anyway that the rip kit for GT3 and GT4 Prologue will not work with the final GT4 GT4.vol file. Im sure a reworks possible but someones gotta have a bunch of times on there hands and have a good knowledge of programing

Can anyone confirm me that the Tutorial on flattening Two layer disks (the one by memesis66 or smth like that) did not work for HDLOADER? Did anyone try it? it seems that HDLOADER has trouble reding two layers, so if you flatten the disc onto one big layer it might work. After all, who can demonstrate the existence on these special calls to the second layer? Sorry, I am probably being a bit optimistic here, I dont mean like offending the hard work of anyone, but I just got today the Japanese version of the game and I want to put it on HD. By the way, I pleayed it and it's the best videogame ever made by mankind...

I'm not going to explain it again. Jack69, that's what this entire thread was about. Just read page 14 and you'll see what's going on. . .

I've heard some stuff about this game working with Benq burners. I've got a BenQ 822a upgraded to DL thorugh firmware. Just wondering if this burner uses OTP rather that PTP, and if so, will it work with GT4?

Hi, I managed to use a hex editor to relink the disk(as mentioned above) and to shrink the game down to 4.3 gig. The game burned perfectly to a regular dvd-r using alcohol. I then ran the disk with Swap magic (new version on slim ps2) and got the same problem as everyone else on this post......boots perfectly up to the Car copyright screen and then black. The GT4 version i am using is the english version patched to NTSC from PAL.
The bottom line is this... the game needs a "boot fix" like some other games ie. EA games etc. I dont see any problem with it being related to dvd9 etc. as i have metal gear and gta san andreas burnt to regular dvd-r and they were done the same way and both work perfectly.
Everyone is SOL til a boot fix is found......or its related to modchips etc. b/c i have the identical boot problems with backups of punisher, colin mcrae 5, NBA street and several others that work on other peoples ps2's. :>}

TRegal:
that's a legend from the Chinese Version NFO... I have a Benq FW1620A and it doesn't work... that was related to the possibility through benq's own tool to change the book-type of DVD+rDL to DVD-ROM hoping that it would resolve compatibility issues bot it doesn't... and now almost every DVD recorder has that option through third party software...
ZoeyChico:
how did you exactly shrink the size to 4.3Gig? Did you manage to decrypt the GT4.vol file? as far as i know that's the only way, and the ps2 scene has been trying to do that for the last 2 months...
also, which metal gear? Metal Gear solid 3 is a dvd5, not 9, and the same for GTA San Andreas, I have it original PAL and i can confirm it is a DVD5, so they would not need to be shrinked...
Can you post the method you used to decrypt the GT4.vol file?

Hi all, I just managed to extract GT4.VOL and GT4L1.VOL using GTFSExtract by abrax found at http://www.megagames.com/ps2/ps2_guides_rip.shtml Maybe this could help.. (works for the 'strike' iso)
Edit: actually it seems the 2 VOLs give the exact same fileset and the files are probably garbage.. but that means the FS has only been slightly modified so a VOL extractor should be doable (?).. unless sony put in some kind of dummy TOC..

Well if -R DL supports PTP as well as OTP burning then this might be the key. Emphasis on the word "might" for now though eh?? :D

yep.. at least the reading problem should be solved then... although I wonder if its true that you can play a backup with a DMS4 chip and TeamToxic Bios on it. Too bad I only have a DMS3 chip. You cant use those with 3rd party Bios (can you?).
