If its a compressed ISO image file, then why was the actual download size 4.53GB (multi-piece rar archive)? Is the ISO compression so bad that RAR can squeeze it even further?

Hi everyone, I used DVD Decrypter to make an ISO image of an original copy of GT4 and can't burn it to a DVD+R 4.7 gigs disk cuz it's a 5.3 gig image. What should I do? I use DVD Decrypter to burn the image, too. Is there a way around this or do I have to buy a whole pack of dl 9 gig DVD+ or -Rs? I don't know what kind of blank DVDs my modded PS2 can play besides 4.7 gig DVD+Rs. My PS2 is v4.

Thanx!

yes. rar can compress anything and make it smaller. I have seen packed up packed files before when downloading larger programs.

Plus an ISo is NOT a compressed image. Its an exact copy of an original disc. no compression present.

Iamsam.......

Yes you need to go buy an entire pack of DL disks. get DVD-R DL, they work better. You may end up using a few since this game is hit and miss. If you can find a 15 pack for cheap enough just get that.

Also mention to the guy at the store what you need these for so you can return them if the game doesnt work.

Once you are done and playing your backup be sure to post here again and let us know that it worked out ok.

OR

Read the last 20 pages of stuff and find the real answer to your question!!!

Stinky, it looks like your frustration is setting in lol (j/k) I was browsing through some other stuff to do with dvd burning etc and I have read EVERY page of this thread and can appreciate many theories are logically acceptable ideas. I wanted to comment on the PTP issue. It seems we are trying to see if we can burn the game in a PTP format. On some thread about dvd movies, some guy posted his dvddecryptor info too and it was for Spiderman 2. I noticed that the image was in PTP format but only one layer. My question to those of you with more of this figured out, is, If we can copy dvds that should be PTP, shouldn't this mean it is a burning software or crack (.ppf) issue? Sorry if this seems like something already covered, but my head hurts from reading all this info.

I think this might work
first have a dvd burner
dvd-rom drive
that is what i have and when i try to backup GT4 it said my disc was too small 4.7
and then i try roxio the lastest version it copied but its only 2.51 gb on the disc
so i thinkin that if i get an DVD-R DL and burn it using Nero (direct copy) it might work . but the only think i'm worryin about is. DOES the ps2 recongize Dual Layers?

this is the best i can think of..crank open BOTH of the .vol files, downsample them, if at all possible, redirect all referances to the second layer of the disc back to the first layer, and keep the files in two .vol files.....the problem that we are running into is that the game is actually split between the two layers on the dvd disc (not exactly sure HOW they did that...maybe they put some modes of the game onto one layer of the disc and other modes onto the other?) but........yea....downsampling it to dvd-r single layer may be the only solution...........and that would require a LOT of skill....

Mather, apparently you have not read the last million posts you cannot burn an unmodified GT4 image to a single layer 4.7gb disc and don't even try to burn to a Dual Layer disc unless you have a dual layer burner (yes, there is a difference). and supposedly only panasonic DL burners can burn this game properly. So either stop trying to back up this game and go out and buy it, play the one you currently own if you've already bought it, quit downloading different isos of the game chances are you won't succesfully get it working properly, or continue wasting your time and money.

Has anyone tried to backup the game with DVDdecrypter and then plugged their PS2 harddrive into their computer and used HDL_dumb to transfer the iso to the hard drive? Or does it still say 2.51GB?

and i read that ps2 CAN read DL disks...but only the ones companies makes...pressed ones...not the ones that we make from DVD9...something like that

I opened my ISO using WinRar...and i got lost...i put my compression setting to Best compression...but then i cant find an option to compress them..i tried extracting the file onto my computer..but it still came out as the same file size...i know we can do this if we compress these...but would Sony really make it that easy to copy the DL disk?

i dont think that will work...because the HDD was formatted specially for the ps2...not the computer...so if u do take it out and put it in your computer...your computer is gunna ask you to format the HD just like the ps2 did and then u will lose all your games...and its really no point...because u'll lose all yur games and the GT4 file because when u place it in the ps2...the HD Loader will ask you to format the HD...so ya...pretty much a waste of time doing that.

Guys...everything you're posting has been already discussed in the earlier pages of the thread...it may take time to read, but you won't be posting the same questions and answers over and over again...

Rudeboi

I always transfer my games to my PS2 harddrive from my PC. As long as it's set as the slave hdl_dumb will recognize the PS2 format. But as said above i'm sure it's been discussed. I will try later anyway.

I know there is a way to "flatten" the DL into a Single Layer but there's probably something that stops us from doing that to. lol

Someone might crack this game but look put in Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec and open notepad and open SYSTEM in the Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec you can read its boot information. When you put in Gran Turismo 4 and open notepad and open the SYSTEM in Gran turismo 4 you will not be able to read it. Someone has to decode its boot information. I have tried to backup Gran Turismo 4 and it freezes before it says Sony Computer Entertainment. When I put in the original Gran Turismo 4 I will let it boot up after the intro movie and switch it with my backup and it plays perfect. So in that SYSTEM file it must have something where it check for the movie. That movie is pretty big so it is on another layer. When you copy the game it copys everything except the intro. So the reason the backup freezes it cant find the intro. If someone finds a way to bypass it where it dosent load the intro the backup will play (without the intro).

John, this is revolutionary information. If what you're saying is right, this might be the last thing between us and backups of this game.

Question : How did you burn your backup? That's the big question. Was it on a dual layer? What kind of burner, media, programs methods. This will help us all out, a lot.

This is really huge.

I'm gonna take a look at the system.cnf file like you said. See if it can be read with notepad, or with a hex editor.

I knew it would be something simple like the opening movie.

Let's get that SYSTEM.CNF!
