the reason we can't make a dvd5 at the moment is because nobody has figured out how to make an extraction program for the .vol file (the large two .vol files on each layer are one file just split over two layers),joining them to make one file (approx 5.2GB depending on pal/ntsc) is a start but nobody can confirm that this has been done correctly as the joint file still can't be extracted.......
just had a thought(and yes it did hurt!)
has anyone tried joining the two .vol files with simple file joiner and then extracting that with gtfs?,i know everybody says it's different code but then everybody said that all three (img/vol/sces) files need patching when it was just the img (for dvd9)
using gtfs(CHANGE THE GT4.VOL NAME TO GT3.VOL!!) WILL give you a directory with all the contents in it,whether this is the correct code is a different matter,and also whether it shows ALL the files i do not know,but it will give you a rough idea as to what the files contain as has mpeg/sound/engine etc directories
plus if you extract a file with a compression program,logically it will re-compress it back to it's original state,so even if the code is different,surely it'll be put right with re-compression(unless it missed files in the first place??),i ain't no expert but i'm sure some of you are so maybe you can give it a go,if you do get it sorted,remember you'll probably have to use the HDD pacth as it won't be dual layer anymore and there could still be .vol size checks(but i doubt it) but yet again,i'm not too sure about this either.Think you're on your own though lads as i don't think the pro-patchers are gonna bother with dvd5 now dvd9's sorted

Just wanted to add that a couple of days ago I mentioned here that I had copied God of War (a dual layer game) using just dvd Decryptor on a Verbatim DL disc.

As it turns out the disc freezes at The Temple of Pandora about4-5 hours into the game. I'm guessing it's the layer break that it's choking on.

@cdillon,
The d/layer patch for gt4 is apparently a generic patch to work with other d/layer games.Try creating another iso and patching with the toxic patch.
If it say's patch successful you might solve the problem.(:

I have successfully created a copy of GT4 which works fine on my V7 PS2 (with Duo2 chip). Procedure is exactly the same as described by reddragon. Note that I could patch either the ISO or MDS file, but not both. After one file has been patched, attempt to apply the patch to the second file will be failed.
Have used GSA 4120B writer and Ritek DL 2.4x DVD+R (8.5A$) for the copy.

Another confirmation of a successful back up using a fresh ISO taken from original disc (not downloaded). Applied toxic patch (took 2 seconds). Burnt to a DL Verbatim at 2.4 X. Plays on a V5 with Duo 2 chip. Plays perfectly, not much lag or loading times at all.

Hi

I confirm the toxic patch worked in an original image created with dvddecrypter burned with dvddectypter and booktype dvd-rom at 2.4x. Sometimes hangs... (in loading screens, the rotating picture turns red) i just shake a little the ps2 slim and it works again. My chip... i dont know, i suposse is murano or murano 2 :S

About the god of war, i grab an iso of the original dvd and downsampled the movies rebuilt it and it works fine, the only problem was when o was in the last fight with ares. he was frozen and i just reloaded since last checkpoint and it ran again.

The dvd+r dl used to copy the gt4 was a ritek ridata 2.4x.

FYI: * The new DUAL-LAYERED recordable DVD-R is now available from Vertabim! Holding 8.5gig on each disc, you just HAVE to check this out!
* The new 8x DVD-R and DVD+R media has just arrived, with stock from Ridata (Ritek) and Databank!
http://www.blankdvdsupermarket.com.au/
This is an Australian site.
Will try to get hold of dvd-r d/layer and see how they go with gt4 backup.
Anyone who can't change their booktype to dvd-rom might want to try one of these.

Are you sure that's dvd-r dl. I can see only +. when you click on the media link on the homepage it takes you straight to dvd+r dl.

Good place to buy media though. I live not far, may have to get some 8x dvd-r riteks. $26.00 for 50...nice..

I cant believe people will spend money on a dual layer dvd burner. I might just go get that new racing game thats like gt4 and just go with that. Cuase this is just a pain.

@sed8ed,
Sorry,your'e right,didn't follow the link just read the news.Not sure if it's their typo error or the picture is incorrect.It says dvd-d/l are now available from verbatim.If they are talking about dvd+d/l, these have been available for a long time.So think maybe the link is incorrect.Will let you know when I hear from them.
