Hopefully this will be the new thread for bakcing up GT4.

We know this:
-The game is on a dual layered disk
-copying requires +DL PTP disks and they do not exist

Does anyone know of a rip kit for the game?

Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow

What is the purpose of this really? I mean come on, there's already like 5 or 10 other "new threads" for backing up this game with a 0% success rate on all of them.

if you can get this thread going it would be useful, lots of ppl want this. what i can telly ou is that gt4 is only 4.9gb and you know that dvdrs are 4.7gb and i used alcohol120% to read the file and in there i found even more subfolders and i found some that can be deleted cus they wont be need if you wanna jus play the game but i cant find a way to delete it. i was wondering if theres like an editing program other than alcohol120% and im not too keen on any Nero programs either

i havent had a chance to play the game because im still playing nfsu2. i like to make backups because in my house me, my brother, and my dad play the same games so whats the point in buying 3 copies. but anyway is there a seperation between arcade and sim? if the files were put into 2 different isos then burned to 2 dvdrs. i wouldnt know where to start or how to do it but if anyone has an idea id say try it out.

yeah but if you were to rebuild it but split it that 30 megs dont matter because i have an iso right now i made with DVD Decrypter 5,189,920k cut that in half 2,594,960k add 2 gigs and it will still fit on a dvdr, does anyone have a list of what files go to the sim and what goes to the arcade? if someone has it ill do some tests. im sick of everyone in my house fighting over when they are gonna play the game.

PTP is the way data is written to burned DVDs. It is different for single layer DVDs than it is for dual layer DVDs, which is why PS2s can't read DL DVDs.

Despite the five million GT4 threads, IT CAN'T BE COPIED, at least with the technology we have right now.

sorry for sounding stupid again, but if ps2 cannot read DL dvd's, then why does it read the original DL games?

then maybe its jus a certain way in which u have to copy it?

I have a feeling games are going to be coming out like this in the future. Lucky for us though, they've probably just now found out that this works and by the time they can incorporate this protection into their games and release them to the public, it'll probably be cracked. So it's just another race, they just got a head start.

I was looking through the setting in DVD Decrypter.
Under ISO Write mode, you can tell the program what sector it should start burning the Second Layer from....

If anyone can provide me with the sectors of each layer
like start to finish I can test my theory that we can well the burner to write later....

Just drop me a PM or Email

PS2s can read factory pressed dual layer DVDs because their structure is different than burnt DL DVDs. For pressed ones, the laser reads from inside to outside on both layers. For burnt DL discs, the laser reads inside to outside for top layer, then outside to inside for inside layer. This confuses the PS2, which is why there is no luck with DL DVD+R. The good news is DL DVD-Rs are soon coming onto the market, although I don't think its been announced of its structure yet, so even those may not work.

Has anyone tried installing the game with HDLoader?
Everyone should have a HDD installed in their PS2, and I believe (even though I have not tried it yet) that GT4 can be installed on the PS2 HDD using HDL_dump - requires the PS2 HDD being connected to the PC.

I created an image using Nero (5,527,837 KB),I used a RiDisc 8.5GB DVD+R DL.
When I load the disc,it gets as far as the "2005 Sony Computer Entertainment............."screen then goes black.
If I load the original purchased disc, once the game is loaded, I can eject the original and put my copy in and the game works fine(I played the copy for at least 90 mins).

Hope this can help someone solve the problem for us all

I read previously that there is a way to combine both layers onto a single layer. This is needed for HD Play.
I would like to know what the software is called since I just dug up a 120Gb HDD in my PC Lab
