Yep samuels is right it is the dvd checks that are preventing us from booting the game. The only way I see this by patching the IOPR300.img file with a patching program, but wait I have an idea.I was wondering is it possible to replace the GT4 IOPR300.img file with one that exist already in a different game.I don't know if it would work, but might be a hint to eliminate the dvd checks.I think I seen one implemented in the dvdloader or cdloader version.I am not sure if it would work or not,but maybe it could work.I still doubt myself on this idea, but would like to try this idea real soon.I was thinking of using an already existing game that works with Swap Magic and pulling out the IOPR.img in that game. Then rename it to IOPR300.img if it isn't already named that, and then implementing it back into the GT4 files. It might be able to work, but I will try it out since it is just something I thought up out of the blue.I'm not really certain if the IOPR.img file the one for GT4 could be replaced or not,but am about to find out.[Quote]

let us know how you go on this one, sounds like i good idea.*L* i'm cleaning my comp up at the moment,(too many gt4 files on it)i was thinking of trying the old fashion way of patching with adrenalin, still this may not even work, but hey one of us will get there... this game is turning my hair grey *L*

Is there any news on the status of backing up for this game?

So far as I've heard, Team Toxic was due to release a firmware upgrade for the DMS4 chips, and later on, a patcher for DVD9 games to allow them to play DVD+R DLs regardless of whether or not they're OTP burned.

Also, the legendary Sonix has released a patcher for DVD9 to DVD5 but it doesn't work for GT4 (yet) Rumor also goes that Sonix is on the track to cracking this game, however, in which ways I don't honestly know.

Is there anything new? Anything changed? Or is this the current state of affairs?

i think this is just a rumor myself IMO about team toxic, like you said regardless of OTP/PTP,i don't believe thats the issue,it's something to do with that .img file, burna and i was talking about a few posts back.
if anyone can do it and he usually can sonix can,he can nut em out pretty well, we owe him so much in ths ps2 scene,i was looking at his nice little tool the other day,a thought came to mind,he has dvd9>5,was wondering what would happen if he incorparated just a dvd9 as well,i meant to get in touch with him about it,but ...you guessed it,to busy with trying to crack gt4,as for news and updates,i don't think that there is,several of us agree it's the dvd checks while others believe it's the OTP/PTP issue,as stated before in a previous post my dl b/up works but only in conjunction with the original

Doh,it didn't work sorry peeps I tried and thought it would be worth trying out.I tried a couple methods with the IOPRP.img file. The first try I did was take the IOPRP.img from Devil May Cry 3.They have similiar file association in the IOPRP.img when I looked at it in winhex, but the code is alot different which made it fail. The other solution I tried was opening up a word document and copying everything from the IOPRP.img file from GT4 into the word document.I then opened it up in winhex once again to reveal different code.I was pretty suprised to see it was different also.I then repacked the IOPRP.img into the image I splitted with winhex, still was a no go.When you repack the IOPRP.img in your GT4.iso file it has to be the same size as the original IOPRP.img file also which makes it even harder. The size of the IOPRP.img is 271 KB(278,465 bytes) and the size on disk is 272 KB(278,528 bytes). It is really hard adjusting the size on another IOPRP.img from a different game.Trust me though I tried my best I wasted like 3 or 4 dvds trying.I do have I guess some kind of good news though, even though the game didn't run I could still hear the drive reading it.When I did both of the methods the discs booted to the very first screen then just sits there reading for a long time.I am thinking there is a check in the IOPRP.img that keeps repeating itself at the very beginning.Sorry I let you guys down, but hopefully some kind of solution will come soon.I agree samuels,Sonix has contributed alot to the PS2 scene and I appreciate everything he brings to the scene. The tools he makes are not any ordinary tools, they are top notch and I also give props to ps2modparadise peeps. If you are having problems ripping any game, that is definately a good place to go.They have some helpfull people on there, that can help you out also if you ever get stuck on a game.I will keep trying to think of a different method, not really sure what to do besides a patching program. If something comes up that works I will definately post it,and help out as much as I can.

ohhh bummer mate...you tried, listen, *S* you seem heaps more experienced than me,with these hex edits etc,i see on a lot of forums people "claim" to have gt4 b/up by using gt3 files,do you think people *G* like myself may have jumped the gun a bit and said no it doesn't work....in your opinion do you think it would work, renaming ,deleting then renaming files from gt3 to gt4?

Nah sorry man I don't think it would work bro.The reason why is the .VOL files contain alot of the game information (music, language, videos etc...).If you extract the files from the GT3.VOL files you would be replacing the information from GT3 into GT4.If someone said they got it to work, they are probably playing GT3 to be honest. If you extract the files from GT3 with the GT3 extractor you will get the right files only because the encryption of the program works for GT3.If you use the GT3 extractor for GT4 it doesn't really extract the files,it will give you fake files.I learned this reading off of ps2modsparadise forums posted by Sonix awhile ago.Neness another reliable source also backed up Sonix on this issue,so I think this is a lie whoever said the .VOL files can be decrypt with the programs that are available at the moment beside the .VOL movie extractor Neness made. The best thing I can say is to maybe look into patching programs, maybe we could find one that might be able to get rid of the checks.I think this is the only hope we have at the moment or until a very reliable source addresses a solution.I wonder if you could replace the IOPRP.img file from GT3 to get GT4 to work though.I think this might be something to look at.I will check it out real soon to see if the IOPRP.img file is almost identicle to GT4.I hope it works, and all the GT4 issues are solved.I really do think it lies in the dvd checks from the IOPRP.img, but the creators of GT4 are really smart and figured a way to hide the dvd check information from the recent patchers I have looked at.I will keep looking into it,and see if something could work out.

ok...i'm still trying to nut this out... l-burna this ones for you,see if you agree or can help, i see theres a lot of files in the game which seem useless to me...eyetoy, net, and epson open these files up some of them gives you an idea as to what they are for,for example epson folder, has description of the epson printer,it's legal trademarks etc,i think if you strip most of these do you think it would work?theres also files in there for ethernet(usb) for another ps2 to enable up to 6 players via 2 ps2's...there seems to be a lot of useless files in there,i think if we can keep the normal padman, mcman files, you know the usual ps2 files and strip the rest we might have a goer...do you think?

personally i think the whole lot can go except for the irx folder, because thats where the main files are, there are a few in there that wouldn't be needed.

so my theory....bear in mind it's only a thought and IF it can be done at all is...
keep
irx folder (delete useless files in there, seems to be a few)

*L* i would try,but i'm not eperienced enough to know exactly what i'm doing...the reason i suggested this is because i read thru the instruction booklet and it says 2 certain models of PS2 you have to do something,i will have a look as to what it says to do directly as i have to go out...but my theory is those folders are for the usb setup, ethernet, etc

I found a torrent for GT4 that is only a little over 2gigs. can this be right? has it finally been done? (i highly doubt it but here's hoping) haven't been able to check it out yet cause i can't get the damn thing to start downloading. theres like over 1000 leechers but tracker problems seem to be constantly plagueing it. if anyone knows if this torrent is legit or not please lemme know. I found it at http://www.torrent.to

BTW that site is in german. to find the GT4 torrent look on the left of the main page for the word Speile (which means game basically) and choose playstation 2. you should be able to navigate fine from there.

Actually,if you take something out you will have to replace it with a dummy file. This means if you take a movie out .pss file you would have to create a file with the same name and extension to it(dummy file renamed to the name of the .pss file with the extension .pss at the end of it).Like I said man actually downsizing it is not a problem,it is the dvd checks.I have a image of it 4.3Gig in size that works with Swap Magic up to the first screen, but like mentioned before the dvd checks are what are causing it to fail. The TOC on the disc I made is a decent size to work for Swap Magic peeps, but these f***ing dvd checks are the worse no lie.Oh nah ZippoGuy that is a fake like all the rest, all of the ones off the net are nuked. The reason why it is fake also is because there are no seeders also.If it was real there would be like 100 seeders by now.BoDBoD that is a good idea what you said, but the main problem is putting them back in the right file order, and you couldn't really delete them you would have to downsample them(with movies you can either delete them or downsample, and if you delete them you would have to replace it with a dummy file). It is not a bad idea though, but I am not sure where it extracted from the location of files in the volumes.I know what you mean samuels the files inside of the volumes could be replaced, but a extractor would have to be built for these certain volume files man.The encryption is different than the GT3 extractors out on the net.I haven't heard from DvdRick, but I am sure he is working on it.DvdRick works with ps2nfo=ps2ownz,and the last thing they mentioned about GT4 was waiting for PTP burners to come out.I think that is a lie,but who knows right they could be waiting.I highly doubt it though I am sure someone off there is working on it just like we are right now.I will see if I can get the real files from the volume, but I am uncertain where the files are suppose to be located samuels.Anything you take out though, has to be replaced with a dummy file though this would have to be done to everything you take out.Let me know if anyone has another suggestion.I will try it out for you if it is real complicated.I could try your method out samuels, but the location is a problem with the volumes.
