OK yea, first post and all, and i prob would only be posting in this thread alone....

Well I dont have an original copy of GT4 just yet, but I was following the thread, the one tha closed. They started to experiment with the HD on the ps. Where, someone earlier on in the thread mentioned that they could boot it, but then it freezes, and then they could put in the original disc and it would work.

In the thread that got locked, there was the guy who was able to burn each layer on seperate discs, and was able to switch between them.

My idea was that if you can put like the first layer on the HD from a cd or transpher using WINHIP(sp?) and burn the second layer on a dvd and put it in the ps, so in theory, it should be reading the two discs....

PS:I could be wrong...so can someone please prove me wong, or right...

Don't worry ZippoGuy,it will man eventually someone will find a solution. It is just a newer protection that has never been used,so it takes awhile for the protection to be cracked.Give it some time man,we have some pretty smart peeps working on this game(Sonix,Neness, gnie etc...and alot more, but would be a whole page probably naming them all).Trust me though the new protection they used on GT4 is going to break with all these people working on it.When the solution comes out,it will be perfect also since this is what Sony plans on using on the newer games coming out also, reported from IGN.

Yeah I see what you mean, but this is only extracting the first layer of the game. The IOPRP.img still checks for the second layer. The second layer of the game contains most of the videos in the game.If you only have the first layer you only have a small portion of the game.It says it is incompatible off http://www.ps2hd.com for hd users.Trust me the dvd checks still play a big part in this game. They don't even have a patch out for this game yet to get rid of the checks.Doh you got my hopes up,but I have seen this already man.Well back to thinking of a way to back this game up.

Really where did you see this, the mpeg files might have to be downsampled man.You have to swap like 5 times,is this with a modchip or does this method work for Swap Magic users also.

How you gonna play it? I'm new to this stuff (on ps2 anyway) but i thought the big problem here was the fact that GT4 is on a DVD9 disc. so even if you do make a 1:1 copy it still wont work cause modchips and SMD wont read the dual layer discs. at least that's what i thought. lemme know if it works though.

Peace, Love, and Zippos

that was with mod chip l-burna i tried to find the forum so i could post it here they said sumthin about gettin the first layer with dvd dycrypter and the sacond with apache 2.0 or sumthin like that. ive tried lookin 4 that apache programme but i cant find it anywhere! i dont know if the method works with swap magic but the people that done it with 2 disks got pissed off with it cause u have to keep swappin all the time. im sure i read it on afterdawn but god knows where!

Doh,I was hoping it wasn't a modchip involved, but thanks for pointing it out.I read that someone using a DUO2SE was booting the game that way.He had to keep ejecting, and puting the disc back in.The problem with this is that a modchip is alot stronger than the Swap Magic.A modchip will keep booting a game,if it stops at a certain spot(remember though that inside the ioprp.img file it can also have code input to effect modchip users as well). The Swap Magic boots one time, and if it fails on the first boot it won't play at all.I will keep looking into it,and see if anything comes up.Still though that is actually some valuable information you said.

We're n00b surrounded.

Incredible how you guys speculate, Please before posting make sure your information is correct there is so much b*llsh*t around.

First of all GT4 game cannot be backed up because it's a DVD-9 in PTP mode hopefully everyone knows this so far;).

Now to make a perfect backup of GT4 until filesystem gets cracked you guys need a DVD burner that supports PTP/OTP burning and a DVD-9 blank media which are not really afordable.

Be aware that the results of the backup can also be faulty because of a modchip that don't like DVD+R DL PTP. I can't test it myself I have an old Neo4.x won't worth it :)

ie: SONY DWD-22A is one of the models compatible with DVD+R DL OTP/PTP.

How to understand why it's not working?
On a DVD9, it's important that the change over time between layers are short enough to allow seamless playback. To acheive such performance, layer 1 of a DVD9 can be mastered with the spiral running either from inside to outside, the same as layer0, or from outside to inside. These are refered to as Parallel and Opposite Track Path.

In other words previous PS2 DVD9 games on PS2 have been OTP. Which means Layer1: inside to outside Layer2: outside to inside.

Now, today GT4 is PTP so: Layer1: inside to outside, Layer2: inside to outside.

For those who still don't understand, OTP and PTP mode is basicaly a method of burning DVD-9. (Parallel and Opposite Track Path)

Also to refer to a previous post in this thread a DVD9 DL cannot be -R. It will always be +R DVD+R DL.

Until then go buy the game it's good to put money back in business sometimes!

Hopefully this was usefull.

1.Is there a way to rip separately layer 0 and layer 1?
2.Is there a burning program that can burn separatly layer0 and layer1?
3.Is there a dvd writer that can burn what i just asked?

It`s nice to be important, but it`s more important to be nice.

iv'e said it more than once,THIS is not the issue PTP/OTP...it's all bull ***t.like i said before if that was the case, why then can my PS2 read and play GT4 BUT only in conjunction with the original, and it's on a dl disc.
sorry for not getting back to ya l-burna...night in hospital, will look at it again shortly.i know this sounds silly, but if you delete all the crap files,do you really have to put in dummies, would it be at all possible to make an ISO with whats left?or even using one of sonix's extractor rebuilder proggies?

They have to be replaced man,the reason why is that the game has to read these files. If one is missing, the game will stop when it gets to the missing file part.If you replace a file though the game will recognize the file and keep reading, just create a file that is like 1KB and rename it and put the extension back on it.Then just pop it back in the Iso file.I will keep looking into it alright bro.I'm not really sure where the files are actually located in the volume files. You had to go to the hospital samuels,I hope everything is ok man.

i didn't say you was bull sh*****g,i said the theory that someone else came up with, this OTP/PTP buissness,is rubbish,it has nothing to do with this issue at all,i think iv'e proven that by copying it onto a dl disc, but unfortunately i need the original to be able to continue through the game, this to me means to me OTP/PTP is not the issue here,it is more along the lines of DVD checks....one more point i would like to make in regards to this issue is,sure the HK silvers or HK pressed discs can copy this game, but they don't have these so called "special burners"they own the same dvd burners as any other joe blo and yet they can be copied onto these discs and read by the "modded PS2
