Quote: what can i say, you have a choice of either finding usbadvance somewhere, paying a professional to install a hdcombo, doing it yourself, or purchasing a commercial usbextreme. the solder points on hdcombo arent thaaaat small, if you have previous soldering experience you shouldnt have a lot of trouble. if not, well hey ur running out of options.
You are dead WRONG on the solder points. The HDCombo needs to be soldered into the existing PS2, right? The solder points on the PS2 are extremely small, and only a very SKILLED modder should try this. A noob or someone with poor soldering skills will turn their system into a piece of scrap. There are more than a few modders I can recommend privately. Have someone EXPERIENCED install a HDcombo or XCM HD Connect. You'll have a new PS2 with most of the capabilities of a FAT ps2. Don't forget that a modchip is required too, so that will cost more $$$

Sucks that Xafiers shut his site down cuz its like the biggest list ever and now its hard to find a lagit site with compatibilities.
But here are a few new games that i tested and works
Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams (2 discs)
State Of Emergency 2
Driver: Parallel Lines
Go rent or borrow Street Fighter Aniversary Collection cuz it works perfect with USb extreme and theres a full length street fighter anime that plays perfect and not choppy.... just found it yesterday and iv had that game forever, kinda weird but just wanted to share my findings cuz i was hella surprised.

Here it is... http://jaydium.servehttp.com/usbextreme/gamelist.php
It seems the same database of Xafier's list.
Last game i tried => FIFA STREET 2 - and it works just fine :P
Now i'm trying to get TOCA 3 working... but it needs a DNAS swap... never done that!
Anyone got this game working?

This is going to sound really newist. However in am thinking about buying usb extreme, but i dont know if i will be able to make it work. People have spoken about a windows gui that lets you copy a game from a DVD and on to your HD, can somebody explain this to me further, and can somebody give me a link to where i can download it.
Also does the usb extreme cd come with some software to copy games onto your HD.
thnks in advance,
PINK

U gotta download software from the Usbextreme official website. The USb extreme disc is only for loading up the HDD to play games. Just download the "Win install version" of USbextreme and you will be set. The pregram it self is pretty easy to use and self explainatory.
You should get USB extreme only if u have a slim PS2 and have in mind that very few games work but there are a list of all the games that do work and they play great except for choppy cut scenes and a lil bit slower than normal load times. If u have a fat PS2 stick with HDadvance or HDloader or something like that its much better.

This is a repost of the question I asked on the alt.games.video.sony-playstation2 group.
I've been doing some research on this because I want a PS2 and regret
buying my GameCube in the summer(Pfft... I wanted to be different and
couldnt be bothered with a PS2 chip). Anyways, looking around on google
I've come up with some mixed reactions, it seems PAL games are giving
people the most problems. I want to order the one from a Canadian based site with this
casing
Would it work with my Maxtor 40 gig model #6E040L0 or my IBM 80 gig model#
IC35L090AW207-0 ? Will I be able to use Windows 2000 with the software? I
realize some games just won't work and that's fine, I'll buy the ones I
like. I'm mostly interested in the rare U/C or obscure Japanese games
Stupid questoin, wouldn't there be a chance the usb port could blow ? With
a signal going thru there that's not supposed to be there, I thought it
could damage the circuit board. (like with no-name cards/controllers on the
PS1)
Thanks in advance for any help.
BTW, the model of PS2 I'll be buying will be whatever is the newest one. If not, the second newest model they made.
Quote: Can Swap Magic damage the laser?
If it's anything like the Gameshark swaptrick for PS1, I'd say yes. At the end of 1999 I bought a 5501 model and the swap trick killed it in two weeks! :-o

how would a game going through your usb port be damaging. Of course its not, its exactly the same as a computers usb port, just because you dont usually use the usb port on a ps2 doesnt mean that it cant be done. GO FOR IT LOL

Hay CrisKahn2
I have been away for a while but i see Xafiers gone that was the best site. I have gone out in sympathy and started a new web page with a new provider and here i decided to add a Usbextreme page.
Keep this in mind ok.
http://myweb.westnet.com.au/lejam/usbExtreme%20ps2%20list.htm
If you cant find it its in the Intrests section. Called USB Extreme in red. Hope this helps.

Nice of u to try to make a new page but some dude made the exact copy of Xafiers... maybe Xafier gave him permission i dont know but heres the link
http://jaydium.servehttp.com/usbextreme/gamelist.php
BUt instead u should just keep ur page but make the list of working good games or games worth backin up cuz xafiers lists is too big and has alot of crap games. It would be nice for those who need recomendations of games worth saving to the HDD. BUt thanks man for the link to ur page i'll check it out once in a while if u update alot.

has anybody managed to find an elfloader or media player that usbxt will boot? iv tried switching elf files for the exploit image sice that seems to boot 100% of the time... but no avail
iv tried
keylauncher 0.4
ulaunchelf
ps2 reality media player
SMS (didnt attempt for very long got bored)
also tried to boot cogswaploader... none of these worked but im not really familiar with the ps2 boot sequence
failing this is there an app around that will generate a SYSTEM.CNF file for various elves?
if anyone has got any of this to work for them can they post an image or sumthing this is frustrating

Is it possible to make a second partition to an external hard drive and run one partition with the usb extreme and have the other partition to keep other files on?

Yes clemmic, it's possible. I have mine with two partitions, one for usbeXtreme (FAT32 format), and the second one (in NTFS format) for personal backups :P

Yea it is but sometimes USB Extreme is retarded and will read ur other partition so u have to keep pulling out the usb wire and plug it back in until it finally reads the partition with the games.... so gay.

Hi, Complete Noob here,
bought my PStwo brand new a month ago,
bought maxtor 300gb hdd
bought icy box enclosure
bought usb extreme
after just 1 week of using it, i've decided i'm not very impressed. but before i slag it off, i thought i'd make sure i'm not doing something wrong.
Here are the games i've tried on it, ALL from legit PAL discs:
Working:
Medal of Honour: european assalt
Sonic: mega collection
The italian job
Not Working:
Super Monkey ball deluxe
Tom & Jerry - War of the whiskers
Hitman
Hitman 2
Tekken 4
Burnout 3
GTA - San Andreas
Manhunt
Not i hae definately seen people in this thread saying that they have San andreas and Manhunt working.
Is there something i could be doing wrong? why would it work for them and not me?
any ideas would be gratefully received
DJ

I have TOCA Race Driver 3 (PAL) working... made the DNAS swap trick. My HD is a Seagate Barracuda 160Gb. Can't get Colin 2005 working, and haven't tried the others..
Did anyone got 'FIFA 2006' and 'Fifa World Cup 2006' and 'Colin McRae 2005' to work with the DNAS swap? Wich IOPR file did you use?
