can anyone tell me if there is a way of copying gt4 as wen i try do so it says the game is 2 big to fit onto disc. thanx [Quote]

you get this message because you are inserting a dvd5 disc which does not have enough space to copy the GT4 data too,you need a dual layered disc (8.5GB's)and to burn onto a d/l disc you need a dual layer burner :)

Some of the regular guys would have already read this from the old thread so sorry if it sounds like I'm repeating myself this is for the new guys.
FIRST: I have a v9 silver ps2 with ghost2 modchip fitted.
GT4 backup works perfectly(backed up on verbatim d/layer).
SECOND:If you have a dvd5+ rewritable try this:
Burn your patched image using DVD Decrypter with booktype left as dvd+rw (it will say there is not enough space do you want to continue?)just click yes.
Put the disc in your ps2 and load.If it loads up you should get to the memory card config screen and you can input your name onto the memory card.When you click exit it will crash.If this works you can feel confident that burning to a dual layer with booktype set at dvd+rd/l will work.If you burn onto the rewritable and it won't load you have'nt wasted a dvd+d/l disk.
The reason I say try this is because some of you guys have d/layer burners(I'm guessing some of the older $ony's)where there is no way to change booktype.

@stergy,

If you already know have a search to see if it supports d/layer.

@damon33,
Swap magic doesn't support dual layer.
That's why at the swap magic fix site any d/layer games from the past have been ripped to dvd5.

Here you go.(this is from red dragon from the old official gt4 thread.):
step by step guide -

1) get DVD Decrypter, get toxics patch
2) make an iso of the game using DVD Decrypter (iso -> read mode)
3) patch the iso with toxics patcher
(4) change the book type to dvd-rom. this may not be necessary as people have reported success with the book type set to DVD+R DL, but to do it, right click on your dvd writer in DVD Decrypter and select 'Change Book Type', click the tab for the manufacturer of your writer, under 'Change For' select 'For DVD+R DL media' and under 'New Setting' select 'DVD-ROM' then click ok)
5) burn the image to disk (iso -> write mode)

that's it! (wasn't so hard now was it?)

Hints (from what i've read) -
Media doesn't seem to be too important. Success has been reported with a variety of all media, including anything with the Ritek dye, Datasafe, Traxdata, Verbatim etc. The prefered media seems to be Traxdata or Verbatim though.
Updating the firmware of your dvd writer might help. there's a function in DVD Decrypter that finds up to date firmware for you, or visit the manufacturers website.
Make sure the iso DVD Decrypter creates is around 5gb in size. if its around 3gb, it didn't copy both layers. by default settings and with an original game, you shouldn't have this problem.
It should be obvious, but some people have asked anyway, that you need to patch the iso file, NOT the mds file that decrypter makes (well duh, as the patcher won't successfully patch the mds anyway)
Make sure the patcher says patching is successful, and make sure the iso files last modified date is the minute you applied the patch (just in case its read only or something)
Selecting the mds or iso file to burn doesn't make a difference, except decrypter shouts at you if you select the iso, and then selects the mds for you (its just picky :P)
Burn at a slow speed (2.4x worked fine for me, you might want to do 1x to be on the safe side), and maybe do a test burn first.
This works for ALL versions of the game, the patch is applied to only one file, which is the same regardless of what version of the game you have.
At present it appears a DL copy does NOT work on Swap Magic disks, most likely due to the large TOC. If someone has an original game with a larger TOC that GT4, try it. Logically it should work, but then again who knows...
This should work with ALL modchips. It has been reported to work with chips that do not even officially state they support dual layer media (and i can vouch for this - it works on my Magic 3.1, and if it works with that it will work with anything!)
If it doesn't work, try recalibrating your laser (that's what my PS2 required). If your PS2 clicks or whirrs when first trying to read the disk, this may be your problem as it was mine.

not true...it does patch the MDS file correctly,if i'm understanding this statement correctly...i patched the MDS file,no errors,works like a charm,it states in the read me of toxics patcher PATCH either the ISO or the MDS file.just thought i'd clarify...just patch only ONE of these created by decrypter. :)

Crowy, your method works for me.

Before any of you go bashing or spitting at me straight up, I'll tell you what, I hate to lie, I wouldn't dare to if I didn't have any success on this game so called GT4, and for some odd reason I made a success back up on a DVD5.

Alright peeps, for whatever reason I've made a success backed up with DVD Decrypter using a FUJI DVD+R 4.7GB (Manufacture ID: YUDEN000 T02, MADE IN JAPAN) by following the above steps, except I "didn't" do step #4 only. Yes...it's TRUE and I am "NOT" bullshiting anyone period. I was playing it for like 1 hr, still "NO FREEZE" yet. I'll keep my fingers cross for now. Anyways, my first backed up with the VERBATIM 2.4 DVD+R DL was successfully completed by following the above instructions. However, my SWAP MAGIC 3.6 PLUS won't boot it because it's a DL media. Therefore, I come up with this crazy method to just back it up on a DVD5 just to try and see what's the result. After DVD Decrypter "READ", it went to my c:\GranTourismo4.ISO - I then put my Fuji DVD+R in my Sony 710a BYX4 and click "WRITE" in DVD Decrypter, it pop up a window saying "there is not enough space, do you want to continue/write?", I just click "YES" and it did it. However, I noticed it only went up to 95% or something of writing and then Decrypter just finalized the disc, instead of going all the way to 100%. I thought it was a "coaster" at first, but decided to give my SWAP MAGIC 3.6 PLUS a shot, and boy......was I surprised, it boot up right away. Thank GOD....!!!!

NOTE: Just so you all know, I'm not an expert with games and all, but if I remembered it correctly, after you've patch the Toxic patch with with GT4.ISO, and when you're ready to burn on DVD Decrypter, if you browse for the same file C:\GT4.ISO, DVD Decrypter won't let you burn it, it says the right file is the .MDS -- this is kind of weird to me, because it did this twice to me when I backed up on a DL and SL DVD+R.
