I think I am now of the opinion that not all DL disks are compatible with all PS2s. The same disk that plays on mine will not play on 2 other machines I have tried. One has DMS3 and other Matrix infinity. These are not my machines BTW but temporarily "Donated" for the good of the cause!!
Whether this is a calibration issue, or whether this is just the PS2 being very picky, I just don't know. What I do know however, is that the DL disks I've burned up until now take a long time to load up on my PC let alone my Playstation2, and PS2 only seems to like a certain amount of seek time before it gives up.
So for total compatibility, we still need to be looking for a DVD-5 alternative. Shame nobody seems to want to look into it much now that there's a DVD-9 solution.
My opinions come with no warranty whatsoever, but are totally open-source, so you can reverse engineer or decompile them as you see fit. All other rights reserved.
"Freedom" in the west consists of: Freedom of speech, freedom of opinion and freedom of movement. So why is it then, that people want to know what youre saying, what you think of them and where you are going?

Not true!!! there are a few looking into the dvd5 issue, patients is a virtue. It takes quite a bit to figure out what is going on, although I do agree that a few more fingers in the pie would help, since the dvd9 solution has come about there does not seem to be as many people interested in backing up to dvd5. The solution is a BIG one though, there is quite a bit required to get a dvd5 working if at all....

@simpsim1,
what chip do you have?what model is your ps2?is it NTSC or PAL?
what model are the other ps2's you tried?
Try to give as much info as possible when asking questions.
If someone has a dms3 or matrix chip in the same model as the 2 you tried and have had success then you know it will work.Then you have to look at other reasons why it's not working in those particular machines

ok guys
over and over again i've read that we must use the toxic patcher to patch the .iso file of the gt4 image created by DVD Decrypter. Reddragon's step by step guide in the old thread even stressed that we must choose the .iso file NOT the .mds in the toxic patcher.

The problem is:
Not only does the patcher patch the .mds file created by DVD Decrypter succesfully, but DVD Decrypter does not even MAKE a .iso file when you copy gt4 from your original dvd to your hard drive using DVD Decrypter. So how are we suppose to patch the .iso file using the toxic patcher when DVD Decrypter does not even make one?
The only 3 file types i see DVD Decrypter create in my gt4 backup folder when u copy it from ur original gt4 dvd to ur hard drive are:
.mds .I00 .I01 There is NO .iso
anyone please comment on this and/or tell me whether or not it even MATTERS i patch a .iso file or .mds file in my gt4 backup folder

Been busy testing for other people as well as for myself. I,ve had 2 working ones. A V5/6 Magic 3.5 and a V8 Matrix Infinity. These are both OK, although as I said before, slow to load.
2 Non-working are both V8s one with another Infinity, the other with a freshly fitted DMS3. Another machine I've tried last week worked, although I've no details to hand of the Model/Chip.
So you see it's all quite "Hit and missy" as far as I'm concerned. Version is NTSC BTW. An original PS2 disk courtesy of a certain well known auction site. It shouldn't make any difference what version is used in any case.

@zayd50. You can successfully patch the .mds with no probs and burn with decrypter.
The reason you're getting .I00 and .I01 is because you have decrypter set to split the files at a certain point (See Tools/Settings menu).

looks good but how did you burn a dual layer disc with a single layer burner?This drive will only read dual layer not write them?

Talking about piracy, there where other people actually giving links to torrent files. I have read the rules, but doesnt it say in the rules that you are not allowed to give links to pirated things? Of course it does, so what difference does it make to what i commented before than that person giving the ACTUAL link to the torrent file? NO DIFFERENCE. I hope you treat people fairly and eqaully. Hey Nephilim why dont you give that person a warning who wrote the comment about the direct link to a torrent file? Its not in this thread its in another thread but still in this forum.

I burned my dvd9 using the writer of a friend.
The info is from my single dvd writer.
Soyou think the copy is good eh?So why doesn't boot?It plays the original..
Maybe it is because it's old.Are there going to release dual dvd-Rs in the market any soon?

Guys don't bother trying alkohols method to patch GT4 on a single layer DVD+R .... DOES NOT WORK !
I think he's pulling a prank on us because i tried 2 times now and never get passed the intro movie
