I jsut downloaded AnyDVD and tried using it with my Roxio Easy DVD Creator. Roxio can read the DVD and transcode it, but when I put the DVD+R into the drive- the drive reads it as a CD instead. And it keeps reading blank DVDs as CDs until I remove AnyDVD and do a restore to before when I loaded it.

Any ideas why this happens and how I can fix it? Is the program no compatible with Roxio? If that's the case, what should I try instead? I tried DVDDrecrytper and DVDFabDecrypter and don't like how they decrypt everything and store it on my hard drive- and Roxio wouldn't successfully burn using those programs either.

Thanks!

Roxio sucks air. For backing up dvds, most around here probably use DVD Decrypter for ripping, DVD Shrink for reauthoring and compression, and DVD Decrypter for burning. Many also use Nero for burning. Nothing's going to work right without first storing files on your hard drive. Delete 'em when you're finished with 'em.

Do not know if AnyDVD has a problem with Roxio, but I do know I had a problem with AnyDVD on the last update. It kept coming up with a warning saying I had no DVD drives installed and I should buy one, in reality I have three. I ended up uninstalling and then redownloading the program and doing a fresh install, this cured the problem :~)

What could I use to go along with AnyDVD since Roxio obviously sucks- it already caused problems with MusicMatch, i-Tunes and now this. I like how AnyDVD "decrypts" without copying everything to my hard-drive.

AnyDVD is just a program that works in the background to break encryption if you want to encode and burn the use the companion program along with AnyDVD which is CloneDVD2

Most recently there have been a few sony movies come out that people were having problems with. I got new version of AnyDVD 5.2.4.2 and I use Dvdxplatinum old version and I had no problems whatsoever.

Nero 6 Ultra Edition, a multi-faceted suite of programs, has a free trial period.

Many here just use 2 free programs, DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter for backing up dvds. Guides for using are here:

I to am a victim of AnyDVD, I downloaded their updated version and by day 10, it was locking up all kinds of programs, my drives - to the point where I had to do a Destructive System Restore. I am happy to say, Now everything is perfect - no more AnyDVD for me - EVER

Hi ILHS86,

I do have to say, you are one or the rare case where AnyDVD didn't work for you.

I have been upgrading almost everytime a new vesrsion comes out, including the Betas, and I never had a problem with it.

Maybe it depends on your configuration, what is installed, what drivers etc...

I'm sad to hear you will not use AnyDVD because it's awsome.

What are you using now ?

DVDIdle ?
DVD43 ?
DVD Decrypter (with the above ones ?)

Dumb question: How does DVD Decrypter BURN the DVD? When I tried it I got as far as decrypting- didn't know it could burn as well. That's why I removed it- because when I tried burning the file using Roxio it kept giving me unusable DVD's or saying there was an error half way through.

@2talll

Read this guide on settings using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter to burn.

Thanks for all the help guys!! I'll work on it tomorrow when I have more free time.

One last question: What program works best to copy a movie that IS NOT encrypted? Roxio works great for this (no noticeable loss of quality even if compressing a bit) but it isn't compatible with the drivers for the other stuff I'd be using for the encrypted ones.

Might as well use Decrypter in iso read and the write mode, should work as long as it is under 4.38 limit. If not then you will have to use Shrink to compress and then Decrypter to burn. :~)

OK, I got decrypter working fine and started using DVDShrink, but my DVD drive is still messed up!!! When I tried burning to the blank DVD+R I got an error saying there wasn't enough space on the source (or something like that.) I went to My Computers and checked and the DVD/CD-RW Drive now just said CD Drive and the properties of the disk were 0 bytes used and 0 bytes free- saying it was a blank CD when looking at autoplay.

I tried un-instaling the drive and re-installing it but that didn't work. Would uninstalling all programs that use the drive work? I am all out of ideas? DAMN ROXIO!!!! First MusicMatch, then iTunes gets messed up because of it and now my whole drive is a pos because of it.

HELP!!!! Thanks in advance!

Here is guide to check and see if your Drive is in DMA setting, this shows you how to uninstall and reinstall your drive

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/DMA.html

You might want to try a system resore back to a time where the drive was functioning properly to see if this straightens out the situation for you. If that works then uninstall your programs :~)

OK, I tried that and the Primary IDE says DMA if available and ULTRA DMA Mode 5 for device 0 and device 1 says DMA if available but current transfer mode is "non applicable."

What exactly do I uninstall? The Primary IDE, secondary IDE, Standard Dual CHannel PCI IDE Controller? What exactly?

I tried a couple system restores and it didn't help. Unfortunately when I first tried DVDDecrypter I forgot to delete the file on my hardrive and when I tried FabDVDDecrypter my computer deleted the older system restore spots to save room because I was running out of room on my hard drive.

I'm guessing my best bet will to be to uninstall all programs that use the drive and then start over. I jsut looked at the drivers on the DVD drive and there are only 4 listed. I know when I was havingproblems with my iTunes (because of Roxio) I checked and there were at least 10 drivers listed. I guess I'm missing a bunch of them.
