I'm trying to understand if AnyDVD is recommended with DVD X-Copy

If you use DVD X-Copy and it works well at making a copy of a DVD movie is there any benefit to using AnyDVD? Doesn't DVD X-Copy remove the copy protection and basically do the same thing as AnyDVD? I'm just trying to understand how the two products work together. Thanks in advance.

Well the big benfit that AnyDVD has is that is will enable you to crack or break so that you can copy the encripted incription (CSS) dvd.
This program does not burn the DVD you have to use other programs like for example Shrink or CloneDVD.
(I use AnyDVD (run it let it do its thing) and then use Clonedvd2 works about 90% to 95% of the time)
This porgrams helps especially for the New Dvd's that are becoming harder to copy due to new (css) encriptions.
The answer to your questions is yes Dvd X copy does have a built in incription but since DVD X Copy is not updating there progam (from what I heard) its harder to copy the new Dvd's.
I used to use Dvd X COPY but started noticing that the new dvd's wouldn't copy and that lead me to try and buy AndDvd and Clone dvd2.

Very helpful info. Now let me ask you another question. If there IS an issue with breaking the CSS would I get a write error at the very beginning of the process of writing the DVD? I'm suspecting a drive problem, but now I'm wondering. Any thoughts or comments?

Not all the time. With the new encription ie: Pupplock, incorrect disc structures and Arcos You most likely would get a read error or it may crash while reading. If there is a disk that needs to be further compressed you will also get an error. DVD x copy will only compress up until a point.I'm speaking from my experience, I use dvd x copy unless I get an error which then I will go to 'dvd shrink 'or 'decirptor' with 'anydvd' runing in the background; depending on which one I need to use. Hope this answers your questions

@CobraBob, I have numerous progs. I typically use Rebuilder Pro/CCE, Intervideo Copy 3, and Clone DVD 2...with AnyDVD in the background...no problems! I also have Dvd X Copy Platinum/Express. What is interesting is that there are several items that can conflict with the program. Something that I had was a back-up software that enabled my External HD to backup the entire computer contents (Typically not a problem!) yet when it is constantly running the caused Dvd X Copy to fail in the burn or even in the processing area. I removed that program and now DVD X COPy works just fine, yet I still prefer the Intervideo Copy 3 quality just a little better and I like the Re-authoring capabilities of Clone DVD 2.
Check the AD site for the DVD X COPY forum and there you will fined a list of know programs that conflict with Dvd X Copy. SImply disable those progs when using DVD XCOPY!

I use AnyDVD (2 years now)and only had 1 problem,and thats when Sony
came out with the new protection (Sony Arcoss). 1 week later ,Slysoft(AnyDVD) had their program updated and Arcoss cracked.
The guys at Slysoft,work hard to keep AnyDVD updated,which makes it a great prog.. Also,it runs as a driver,so,you do nothing to bypass the protections ,allowing you to use any burning progam of your choice,to burn it.
Myself, I use AnyDVD, along with Nero Recode. Nero Recode fits the movie to the DVD disk then burns it.
I've also used DVDFab Decrypter for an all in one solution.
It's the prog. that takes over from DVD Decrypter,which was recently shut down.

dvdxcopy is very unstable when other things are going on while copying such as a screen saver,auto updates or just about anything you you try to do while copy is in progress.dvdxcopy seem to be sensitive to memory demand. best bet is to shut down most everything running in the background except AnyDVD.ps-i still have dvdxcopy on my system but seldom use it,i have switched to clond dvd 2 which is very stable and not sensitive to most of the things that dvdxcopy is to.

DVDXcopy is an old program it will still work with older disks but not new encryption. I have not found that you can use AnyDVD with Xcopy, unless it is the ripper free version. Xcopy will not do unencrypted disks, and using AnyDVD causes the program to see it as an unencrypted disk and it will not work. At least this is my experience.

Forget DVD X COPY. Can only cause one problem after another. DVD Decryptor to decrypt and rip, DVD Shrink to shrink/encode, then burning program of choice (could even use DVD Decryptor to burn an ISO). This is best free solution and far superior to DVD X COPY.
AnyDVD is more up to date and would save a step as it decrypts on the fly. You can go right to step two and open the disk with Shrink to rip/shrink as the copy guard has already been bypassed.

I've been using XCOPY and AnyDVD (5.0.0.0) for the last 5 months. I haven't done any upgrades or updates, and have successfully burned every movie I have burned. (over 200!!!)

As I mentioned with so many robust progs. that enable you to have perfect back-ups (CloneDVD 2, Intervideo Copy 3, REbuidler Pro/CCE) I found that I no longer use X COpy. @arniebear, I haven't noticed an issue with X Copy/ANY DVD, but I also have the ripper free version. I agree that it fails it comparison in regards to the other programs that myself and many others have listed. Yet, as we have learned that if something works well with your system and home theater set-up then stick with it, but always be willing to try new things that might make it easier and coaster-free processes.

Actually, I got sick of the 321 screen at the beginning, the pause was too long, and my Toshiba standalone would not get by it. I would have to stop the DVD and then press play to get it too move. Yes programs have gotten better and it is time to move on, even though they still sell Xcopy there are much better programs out there.

I believe I might have the ripper-free version of DVD X-Copy. I do know it is the version not usually available. I actually used it tonight with AnyDVD and it worked fine. If I have any more trouble I will definitely look into one or two products recommended above. Thanks again.

I have used DVD Shrink, but i dont use it no more cause its free and crap. Just got AnyDVD cause it saves a ton of time and it works like charm. I also have InterVideo DVDCopy 3, but i dont use it cause it resizes them too small, which of course means that i lose more video quality. So i now use CloneDVD2 which works fine for now (havent found a better one.).

well catfreak thanks for the link to DVDXcopy's ripper (my version didn't have that...
I agree with most of what I read.. I was a DVDX copy user until it started burning coasters, I noticed no upgrades were released and, most of all, i bought Clone everything (DVD, CD, ANY)
After that I completely abandoned X copy.

Umm, Ville 30, DVD Shrink is not crap. DVD Shrink works great on virtually all movies more than 2 years old. In the last year I've only had one movie it could not crack (LOTR ext. ed.), and went to CloneDVD for that. As a foreign movie buff of the older movies, DVD Shrink is still superb. For any price, DVD Shrink was a fabulous product. We were all sorry that the developer moved on to Nero and stopped supporting it. BTW, price is not an indicator of value.

I believe because of the fact that they're FREEWARE, DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are incredible values that simply can't be beaten .
I have 'backed up' countless DVDs in my collection, and until recently haven't run into anything that couldn't be conquered by these programs .. Now I ues AnyDVD with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. AnyDVD is the best 'shareware' proggy out there ...

Umm Catfreak, which means that you actually agree with my statement. Price is not an indicator of value means that just because it is free does not mean it is worthless. The corollary to this statement is that there are people who know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

I'm sorry, but I mis-read your statement, iatik ...
I had a 'puttytat' pass on to the great beyond a couple weeks ago and I'm still getting over the orange dummy .. My granddaughters had a memorial service for him and he'll fertilize my side flower bed for awhile ... <^:^>
