Printable Hub media, Movie Collector software, R200 Epson. By the time I label my backup using a Sharpie...a few more seconds and the image can be printed on the media. Very simple, professional, and visually satisfying.

I guess maybe I should throw out those paper labels and just stick with my sharpie.

Interesting thing I do.... I get blank DVD cases from Blockbuster that they are going to throw away, and print the inserts from www.cdcovers.cc, or scan them in. That way the case looks awsome, even though I wrote with a sharpie on the disk.

just look at alkohol's dvd's he makes, they are awesome !!! his latest (at least by sig post) was unleashed with jet li.... that copy came out like an original. and his is done by printer, not sure what he has, but it looks mighty good !
@gear79,

Yes... that is Jet Li's Unleashed: Unrated version - and its dvd cover. I have the Epson R300 Inkjet Photo Printer (love this printer) with genuine Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD+R Silver Inkjet Printable disc from supermedia.com - I use Adobe PhotoShop 8 to do all my text editing, picture touch up, picture resize/fixing contrast and colors, etc.

Does anyone know if the ink from Sharpies will soak through and harm the media side? I've been using Sharpies on all my DVDs with no problems, but I'm working on archiving old family films and video and I want them to be readable in the distant future. I use Verbatim disks...

the sharpies shouldn't hurt the media as far as we can tell. And as we usually put 3 movies and then filler material (adult & reg. cartoons, best of tv shows ect.) we have alot of sharpie work on all our discs & and have never run into any problems associated with Sharpie contact.
Good Luck Dr. BigBad with the family photos and everybody knows a good Dr. always has a Sharpie handy.*

Doesn't anybody put more than one movie on their dvds? We put at least 3 sometimes 4, and this make Sharpies the eastest, fastest, and least expensive way to go. Although we do have a Memorex cd & dvd labelmaker to go back at a later time and text the tites in (someting we hadn't thought of when we bought the label maker was the fact of having more than one movie eliminates the need for the pictures on the dvds)Does anyoneone else use the memorex label maker? If so how has it worked out for you?

The thing is at the moment on my Thermal Printable DVD-R (Genuine Taiyo Yuden Discs) ... i do infact put 3 or 4 Xvid/Divx Movies on ther and i do us a sharpie to write thre titles out, and it's more effective, but the fact is my writing ressembles that of a 3 yr old, so i just get my sister to write on them... it kinda awkward when i burn my porn though ... lol

what i really wanted to do was print plain text on them instead .. im not fussed about the pictures, etc...

so next time im gonna buy Injet Printable

nstathis,

Why are you spending more money for thermal printable media if you just label them with a sharpie. Why not save some money and just use TY branded or plain silver media? The software that comes with the epson r200/r300 will print plain text on inkjet printable media.

I Use Fellowes Neato labeling system and it works great burned about 320 DVDs and they work fine, the reason some people have trouble is because when they label them with the sticker on top they forget that theres air caught in the sticker this causes the DVD to be unstable while it reads on a DVD player and makes the movie skip so therefor when someone labels a DVD with these its better to check if theres any air caught and take them out just push the air outwards. Yes this might seem like a mission to do but it looks better than a sharpie. Even though sharpies are better because its just writing on the disc and thats it. But for those who have a Printer collecting Dust and want your DVD collection to look professional use labels. But not any label some labels are made with bad quality product material like I used memorex label system not so well. But Fellowes Neato is great like i said before I burned 320 with this labels and they were successfull.

I love my R300 with my DVD+R 8X Yuden Silver Inkjet printable disc dearly. I'll definitely get the Yuden 8X +R hub printable once my Silver runs out.

I'm spoiled with my R300 and printable Yuden media, so no "Sharpie" or "labels" for me.

I've been using labels on my cd's and dvd's for about 4-5 yrs now, and I've never had any problems.....

Anyway... I've been reading all these posts... And nobody wrote anything about Lightscribe...

Does anyone have a lightscribe DVD-R that they can post their comments in here??

In my option the Epson Stylus Photo R800 printer is the best to print dvd?s or cd?s.
Epson 8-Color UltraChrome
Print directly on ink jet printable CD/DVDs
Check it out here
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/consumer/consDetail.jsp?BV_Use...

note,Lightscribe is not my cup of tea,as i found out Lightscribe takes to long to print..at 2x speed..until they get the speeds up..then i will think about getting a Lightscribe burner.

I think the R800 is a little expensive. I'm happy with my R300 at the moment.

How does lightscribe compare to printing on an epson? Like I mentioned before, I currently use labels (stomper) and I haven't had any problems... but it's starting to get a bit expensive... and I wanna switch..

so my 2 options are (1) epson printer or (2) lightscribe...

can I get some opionions on those 2?

Dopeyman,

Honestly, I would take the any of the Epson R200/R300/R320 over the Lightscribe. All you need to do is get the Silver Inkjet or Hub printable media from Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell and all your backups will look professional.

I've done over 300 with Memorex labels and no problem until now. Had one disc get stuck in my player and had a heck of a time getting it out.I had put the label on the disc before the burn.Think I'll go with the Sharpie from now on. Would love to go with the 300 but having to upgrade my Tys to printable ones plus the ink can't be cheap. It would probably double the cost of a copy.Has anyone with a 300 used different ink cartridges than the manufactures and been succesful not clogging their machines?

boy, you can really be simple and penny wise or go the limit on labeling your copies can't you? Found you can get a refurb Epson 300 for almost the same as a 200 with rebate and free ship from the manufacturers site as you can from COMP. Got to admit alkohols looks terrific and no worries about peeling or screwing up the player.I use TY's or Verbs and have very few bad burns. The Casio CW75 looks great but would have to go thermal and ribbons seem expensive along with the discs. If you only did a few copies it wouldn't be bad but if you made a good amount it could get costly. If any of you use the 200 or 300 I would like to know your ink costs. I was using my Cannon 1500 with memorex labels and getting my ink from printp%$% and had no problems pinting covers & labels. Cost for ink was really great having only a black & color cartridge but see that the Epson 200 & 300 use a total of 6 cartridges (1 black & 5 different colors) and not knowing if off market replacements would work. To replace them with Epson would cost around $80 and off market $45.Seems like they almost give away the printer and make their $$$ on the ink. If my printer went kaput it would make me make a choice which way to go. Sharpies looks great $$$ wise but doesn't do much for a good looking disc.I used to read in these threads that labels caused trouble but never did for me and now it's me having trouble and think it's time to change to eliminate a problem.Maybe use my Cannon for regular printing and the covers and switch to a Epson 300 for $79 to do labels and pay $.15 more a TY or Verb disc? Decisions!!!
