I had AnyDVD for about 10 days on the trial and it worked fine.Then out knowhere it stopped recognizing my "E" drive as having media in it and it also ejects my movie(Any movie)out of the "D" drive and says it is Copy Protected.I also get that "E" drive is disabled sometimes as a message when it is not disabled.Ok here are the facts.I have a Top of the Line Dell XPS Gen 4 with 2 gig mem,320 HD and two IDENTICAL Phillips DVD+- RW 8631 drives.One in "D" and one in E".BOTH have the LATEST firmware and play movies fine,so it is NOT my laser.The PC is only a few months old too.I always used Verbatim Dual layer DVD+R DL with NO PROBLEMS.I opened like 5 DIFFERENT packages of NEW Verbatim from DIFFERENT lots and none of them were recognized by AnyDVD.BUT other programs recognize the blank.I also don't get why Movies are now getting ejected with a Can't copy cause of Copy Protection thingee.I see the little Fox on the right of my desktop and he is red and recognizes the Movie in "D" only.P.S.I did download Counter Spy,MicroSoft AntiSpyware,and Ad Aware recently and then the problems seemed to have started.I disabled them and STILL have the above problems.Does anyone know if any of those programs could have done something to cause this?I also have COMPLTELELY REMOVED ANYDVD and Re Instaled the new version 5.4.4.1 and the same things happen.I emailed SlySoft 3 times and have gotten no reponse.I realize this is a trial version but I really liked it at first and want to buy it.But not if this happens.Please help!Thanks.

The program works very well for me. You will probably need to buy it if you want to use it again. Sometimes trials may quit on you if you are moving things around or try and reinstall the trial.

It's a good program from a company that keeps it updated frequently so it can handle the new protections showing up lately. It's worht the money.
The only info Slysoft has at their website FAQs is:
My trial version has expired before the 21 days trial period. Why?

The trial period of 21 days does not start again, when another version is installed. It also expires when the Windows date is changed to odd values. You cannot restart the trial period by reinstalling the software.

Not sure why you were trying to get AnyDVD to recognise blank media.

When anyDVD is working correctly you will only see the fox icon in the system tray. Nothing else should be visible.
When you open a burning or some other DVD recording/ripping program it will appear to be unencrypted if AnyDVD is working correctly. You do not open DVDs with AnyDVD. It just sits in the background.

BTW we have a thread here at Afterdawn with the Philips DVD8631 as the subject. You may have drive problems. My brother uses a very similar machine and has had no problems with his drive but some folks here are having a few issues.

IMHO:
You may want to reconfigure the drives by removing one of the burners and installing a DVD-ROM at some point. Normally DVD-ROMs rip faster than a burner does. You can get firmware for some burners that will unlock the rip speed. I don't know if this is needed or even available for yours though.
Your PC is under warranty so you may want to contact Dell if you ever decide to change things around.

Some Dell's also have the jumpers on the drives set to "Cable Select" rather than the Master/Slave setup used on most other PCs. Something to keep in mind as well if you ever change drives. This affects the way data is transferred between drives and memory and can have a bearing on data transfer rates.

Cheers,
Frank

I edited my reply while you were answering.

I'd never use an NEC either. The next drive I want is one of the Phillips Lightscribe. I use Pioneer for the most part as well as Sonys I have not had any problems with any of those.

You stated you removed and reinstalled a newer version of AnyDVD.
That is why your discs are being rejected for copy protection.

You could try other programs as well.

Hi B.M.

my free trial of AnyDVD also quit working after exactly 11 days. If I buy the program I'll let you known if that solves the problem-- you do the same if you buy first-- I still havn't decided if I'm going to buy.

Does anyone know if CloneDVD2 provides dual-layer support.
Doc.

I would not expect much, if any, support from a vendor if you haven't bought the program....

@DrJeffrey

Yes Clone does have dual layer support, however I do all my dual layers using Decrypter in iso read and the write mode at 2.4x. I have found this to be the best for dual layer backup it handles the layer break very well. However, you cannot go wrong in purchasing AnyDVD and Clone they are well worth the price which is reasonable for the two programs. Just my 2 cents.

@aabbccdd,
Please read the original post and my reply!

You cannot reinstall a new trial version of AnyDVD and expect it to work.

Once you install a trial version, any attempts to remove and reinstall will result in the trial ending.

So this is NOT his best bet.

@bilbo65,
All the needed information was in the FAQs at the Slysoft website. I agree with you though....

@BigMuscle

Just to add to the above info
Quote:

AnyDVD is a driver that breaks encryption if you have put a blank DVD in the drive it has nothing to do and will not recognize it. There is no data on it. I can put a blank in and it will say there is no disk in the drive. AnyDVD does not burn so why should it recognize the blank. As for the drive disabled I get that sometimes not sure if it is a glitch in the program or the fact that I do not have it enabled on startup, it means nothing Clone and all the other programs recognize the drive.

AnyDVD WILL recognize the fact that you have put a blank dvd in your drive. Just put your mouse pointer over the "fox" and it will tell you how many disk drives are on, off and empty.

Thanks for the responses.I did not know that Blank media is not recognized in the program.I tried it with Clone and it worked fine.I just don't get why it was kicking out my Movies and saying copyrotected,then last night it let me copy with Clone.Frank,you said "You stated you removed and reinstalled a newer version of AnyDVD.
That is why your discs are being rejected for copy protection."Why would that be?Now it is not doing it,so that makes no sense.
Any answers on that?So now I have the trial of 5.4.4.1 with 9 days left.Will it STAY working?LOL.I want to buy it as it seems very good.I just dont want problems with it working not working etc after I pay for it.Also,I had Sonic version 6 I think and AnyDVD worked fine with that alos,then all of a sudden I notice my version is 7.3 and now it wont let me do a "Exact Copy" with Sonic.Does that new version of Sonic have issues?Anyone know where I can get Ver 6 again?It was great as I have 2 burners and it allowed me to make copies from one burner to the other with NO problems without having to download the movie to the hard drive first.Thanks again.

swp4lfe, that's not a very smart thing to do. Telling people where to find serials for software that should have to be paid for can get you banned instantly.

I am simply quoting again from the AnyDVD FAQs:
Quote:
My trial version has expired before the 21 days trial period. Why?

The trial period of 21 days does not start again, when another version is installed. It also expires when the Windows date is changed to odd values. You cannot restart the trial period by reinstalling the software.
Possibly you did not reinstall a newer version but reinstalled the same version.
You said in your original post that you
Quote:
"installed the new version 5.4.4.1."
Is this actually a newer version than your original trial? If it is then according to the AnyDVD FAQs it should not work.

It it is a newer version than the original that is working as a trial, then the AnyDVD FAQs are wrong and you have gotten lucky!lol.

At this point your AnyDVD problem is solved I think. It is a good program and I think once you get a registered copy you will be happy with it.
