try a search on PS2 cdr or something, that topic has been discussed many times and there is very good info already here. I'm sure you'll find what you need.

Sorry guys i had to format my computer the other day and i finally got XP pro reloaded and all the drivers...you know how it goes...

Anyways first to darthnip - i have never seen different sizes yet but i have only worked on V4/5. I will be working on a V7 soon cause I have to buy a new playstation for when i move out...my bro gets the old one :)
I'll let you know what i find and see if there is any fix for it.

to l-burna - i havent gotten to updating my games list yet. What i want to do with a few guys is get a list going on here or on a website that shows every game that works(from reliable people) and the method they used....like program/speed/media/ect....

Been busy with work and school but i should be getting some well deserved free time shortly and will work on it.

peace

Can somebody tell me exactly what type of CD R and DVD R you burn you ps2 games to. In terms of the brand and the size(700MB, 650MB, 630MB etc.) I tried looking around a bit I couldn't get an exact answer. So if somebody could let me
know I would greatly appreciate it.

people use all different kinds of media, sometimes what works for one person wont work for another. trial and error is the best method to figuring out what media is best for you. I personally can use about any cdr, and mostly princo, imation, ritek, or generic no label dvd-r's.

Dills, I can contribute to that web site, let me know when you have something up and running.

I'm interested to see the Matrix game, however I feel it may be on a 2-layer dvd which = bummer! From what I read it will have like an hour of new movie footage just for the game + cut scenes, don't know how all this will fit on a 1-layer dvd, but let's hope.

the reason why i wouldnt bother with the older 650mb disks is because some PS2 games might be right at the 700mb limit or near it

Thanks for the information guys. The reason why I was asking about the size is because I had burnt a game to a 700MB CDR using nero and I then booted it using a gameshark in which it didn't it work. Maybe it was because I was using the gameshark. I'm getting a Swap Magic. Hopefully it will work with 700MB CDRs.

there are alot of good burners out there nowdays, plenty for under $200. I got a Cendyne 4x (pioneer in a cendyne box) and i've had great luck with it. i got it for i think only $169. it'll do cdr/cdrw, dvd-r/dvd-rw. nice little unit i think.

Make sure you pick up some disks :)
best buy has the fuji +R discs i use on sale 79.99 for a 50 pack....
Make sure you get the right disks though
When you get a burner check to see if its +r or -R
This topic on the forum should give you tons of info on burning. I recommend Nero for straight disc to disc copying, not on the fly however.
Ebay is a great place to get the lowest prices around, and pretty safe as long as you buy a burner that is brand new and sealed.

YES! I got my replacement dvd swap disc from BSG last Thursday and quick burned Vice City I had already copied to my computer using Nero and it worked PERFECT. I was in a rush so I ran to Office Max and spent $20 on a 5 pack of Imation DVD+R's, I'll have to find where to get those things MUCH cheaper than that :)

ok there's -R/-RW, then there's +R/+RW. some burner only do -, and some only do +, there are a couple burners now that do it all but they tend to be a bit pricey. The larger PS2 games can take up to an hour to burn since it is highly recommended that you burn at the slowest speed possible. That link for that burner wasn't to bad but you can get a 4x burner for that price. No you cant copy movies that you rent from the store because that would be piracy, but you can easily make copies of the DVD's you own. ;)

Sucess!!!! After almost a year of trying to figure out out how to backup games I finally did it and without a modchip!!! I burnt the game Mad Maestro! to a 650MB CDR using Nero. I then booted the game off of a Gameshark (I don't have a flip top cover, instead I just take the cover off so that I can manually swap the Gameshark with the game so that the ps2 doesn't know I did the switch) and it worked!!!

cool but you will wear out your ps2 pretty fast doing stuff like that

flip top makes the swap simple

check in the DVD-R ripping for newbies section of the msg boards, plenty of kick ass guides in there, also great guides in here for PS2 games both cdr and dvd-r.

i use +R with no problems

i believe Darthnip uses -r with no problems

doesnt matter for ps2

for DVD players with movies it does.

My pioneer dvd player works everytime with +r and even +rw so i can test on rw's first.
Best backup for movies is DVDXCOPY.
Works everytime.

yeah i use -R for PS2. I can use -R and -RW for movies. I use smartripper, DVD2One, and Nero for movies. Almost always Nero for PS2, once in a while i'll use CloneCD for cd based games.

I just ordered my flip top from the website Dills2214 mentioned back on page two of this huge thread. I am totally convinced that this will be the best way, and probably the only way to go with my PS2 v.1, to avoid the million wire soldering. I don't have any technical questions cuz this forum covered pretty much everything I need to know (after 3 long hours of readin every single thread here, lol.) One general question that I don't recall anyone covering, if so, sorry. uhhhh... Can you still use the PS2 Disk Tray? probably a real stupid question. can anyone leave a yes or no. thanks! haha!

yeh man tray still works with no problems.

yeh you went the right way...flip top rules.

lol at 3 hours to read...the topic is getting long but its great for people who have questions with flip tops.

I dunno if installing a flip top on a V1 is harder then the rest...i would doubt it.

If anyone has done it on a V1 im sure they could give ya any tips.

There are no stupid questions, only stupid people :P jk
