I know this isn't forum isn't really for DVD movies but I just got a question. I am trying to play a dvd burned movie on my ps2 and it works on my computer but doesn't on my ps2. So i tried an older ps2 dvd movie that i made on the same type of disc and did it the same way and it doesn't work. It had worked at one point a few weeks ago... but doesn't now. The burned games play fine with the fliptop and swap. Any advice? Thanks.

The same thing happpend to me. I have a V4 with a Flip Top. I used to be able to play burned movies on my PS2 now they just won't load. I use Verbatim DVD-R and they worked in the past. Is it possible that my laser has been weekend?

Why dont you tell us your system specs if you knwo them. Then we can tell you if its too slow to run a dvd burner.

You could always spend a little more and get an external dvd burner so when you get a new computer you can easily transfer it without digging in your computer

I was going through this entire thread, and it seems like the question I'm looking for still hasn't been answered:

Does the fliptop allow you to play ORIGINAL import games? Has anyone tried? If so, what's the ratio of games that work?

yes, flip top plays both import original and import back up games. but double protected game won't work just unless you use cdloader just like us back up games.

I just got my fliptop from saveware and almost done with the install. I was just wanting a suggestion on where to tape the ribbon so it is out of the way. Thanx!

B.T.W. I used to have a Magic 3 chip but it was nothing but trouble and I think it ruined my last PS2. But after reading this thread I had no problem making the decision to go fliptop. I think we all owe Dills and Darth a great bit of gratitude for starting and keeping this thread going, Thanx Guys!

Okidok, this thread is getting a bit long now and searching through 800+ msgs when trying to see answers to questions in one single thread, is a nightmare. So, open new threads for new questions, I will close this thread now.

Go to this page on Saveware, you must have missed it:

Complete set of instructions for all
http://www.saveware.com/p1040.htm
Flip Top Installation instructions
http://www.saveware.com/fliptopinst.htm

What you should do is fold the cable up and you will see a clip that you can clip it into. Tape over the clip and tape over the ribbon on the top so it does not get in the way of the opening for the CD. Just make sure it is tucked out of the way. That is what the tape does, keeps it out of the way.

I just bought a fliptop that came busted because the magnet thing on the flip top lid was broken off, or so i'm assuming it was supposed to be attached. Anyways, I didn't follow the instructions too well and accidentally took out the disk tray instead of disk tray cover. I aborted the project and put the original ps2 cover on and now the tray won't eject. Was hoping there is a ps2 technician out there that can tell me how i can fix my fliptop disaster! thanx in advance

Jonherbe,

Now that the tray does not open you have to use the flip top or fix the tray but I asume you want to use the flip cover still. Glue the round cylinder back on with super glue or plastic glue. Make sure the side that holds the white DVD/CD retainer is on the outside so you can snap the retainer in the cylinder.

See this page for instuctions on installing the Flip Top Cover: http://www.saveware.com/fliptopinst.htm

As for the tray:

Check all the cables to be sure they are seated properly. The ones on the DVD ROM drive and the ones on the front panel. The eject and reset and also on the motherboard. Make sure what you took apart was put back correctly that it is not jamming the mechanism. I can't see your unit but that could be what is stopping it from opening also. You may be able to check that, by using a credit card to open the locking mechanism latch to see if you can manualy open the tray. If it does not, it could be the gears are not seated properlay also. There is a long slide gear that has to mesh with the round small gear on the tray. Look close when putting the tray on to make sure it is meshing and closing properly.

Hope that helps!

P.S. You will need to open and close the tray to be able to use cdloader for games like splinter cell that have the double T.O.C. check. If you don't know what the cdloader is then search this forum or go to: http://www.ps2reality.net/ And download cogswaploader 1.0

For some reason this post seems to get responses so I will pose my question here. Also because Dills may have helped someone else with this problem via pm and so it might be worth it.

I have seen a couple other messages posted on this, but my problem is unresolved if anyone can help I would appreciate it.

I just installed a "Z" fliptop from Saveware on my v4 PS2. I haven't been able to get anything to run successfully because the discs just spin noisily and the laser cannot read anything.

I have the white magnet thing installed in the fliptop lid with the visible magnet on top (not facing the disc).

I'm not sure what to do at this point, is there a chance I was sent the wrong fliptop version or something? I ordered a v4 to match my box

I have been able to read a DVD only if I take the white goober out of the fliptop and set it on top of the disc magnet side down - which if I'm not mistaken is the wrong side down - and then prop the flip top open (if it closes it rests on the goober and interferes with it)

I appreciate your assistance, this is a great forum.

you have to make sure the disc is inserted correctly. try inserting the left side of the disc in first, like holding the disc at roughly a 45 degree angle while inserting it. there is a lip on the left side of the tray that gives alot of people trouble when they first get their fliptops. if it installed ok, it's the correct version. is sounds like the disc is just riding that lip instead of being under it. i always give the disc a quick spin after i insert it, juts to make sure it spins smoothly so i know it's correctly on the hub.

Jrseese,

See this page for instuctions on installing the Flip Top Cover: http://www.saveware.com/fliptopinst.htm

If you had the wrong cover you would not be able to put it on. The white retainer yoo took out of the top of the DVD cover must be cliped into the Cylinder on the bottom of the flip top cover lid. That is what holds the CD/DVD in place so it does not wobble. Make sure that your bibbon cable is not in the way and the CD/DVD is seated all the way on the spindel. Of course the cover must be put on properly. The Version 1,2,3 have part of the back missing so you would notice a large gaping hole if you had the wrong version.

I did not know the PS2 even had a goober, you must have a new version :)

I really appreciate your help. I checked out the link you posted, and confirmed that I followed the instructions to the letter.

Just one thing that I wonder about, when I inserted the white retainer thing in the flip top lid, I did it so that the magnet faces up (so that the white piece spins freely in the lid cavity) however it also barely fits in there with the magnet facing downward although it will not spin freely this way (too tight).

It almost seems like there is too much room in there for the disc to float around when the flip top is closed...

Think I got it fixed! Take note for the future!

There is a little magnet on the rotor that spins the disc. There is also a larger magnet that fits inside the white plastic thing. These magnets come together when the lid is closed to firmly seat the disc for spinning.

When I first installed the fliptop I was testing out how the pieces fit together and I touched the white piece to the rotor - and I picked up the little magnet without realizing it! - Only now did I notice that I actually had two magnets combined sitting up inside the white piece.

With no magnet on the rotor itself there was no seal to keep the disc in place. I pried the little magnet off of the larger one, replaced it on the rotor, and then put the white piece correctly back into the flip top lid.

I seem to be in business at this point!

Thanks everyone!

Hey everyone I have been reading this thread for a while now and it convinced me to get a flip-top which on the cd side worked like a charm, but reacently I have bought a Memorex Dual format DVD burner and started to burn the DVD games.
But when I backed-up Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, I got the dreaded RED SCREEN OF DEATH!!! First I used Alcohol 120% and it burned fine (according to the software), but ended up with that damn red screen. Then I used DVD Decrypter and got the same thing. I am wondering if I am doing something wrong when it comes to the burning process. I hope some can help because I have already made 4 coasters and they are started to add up!!! I even tried using different games but still got that same red screen of death. CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME?????
By the way I have an:
Athlon XP 2700+, ASUS as8x dlx Mobo, Maxtor 80 gb HD, Kingston 512 mb pc3200 DDR, 52x cd burner, dvd drive, and Memorex 4x dual format DVD burner, WinXP Pro
Oh yeah I was using a fuji dvd-r

Try using a different media, I have been using Ritek G04's religously and haven't had a coaster yet. Also, be sure to burn at a slower speed, 2x works fine for me...

Note to all interested in purchasing a fliptop for ps2: Absolutely DO NOT under any circumstance purchase a fliptop from baysoftgames.com I ordered a black flip top and they send me a blue one with "black is no longer available" on the invoice. To make matters worse the damn thing was broken. The magnet encasement that is attached to the fliptop lid was broken off.

They wanted me to pay to have it shipped back and after I refused to do so since they sent me something I didn't even order in the first place they threatened to send the matter to collections so it would go on my credit report!

Funny thing is that if the company would have paid $2 for shipping I would have been glad to send them the piece of crap back. But since they practiced poor business principles they will most definitely lose out on more then $2 in future business if everyone that reads this heeds my advice!!!!

Hay jonherbe,

You can fix it if it is just the round cylinder underneith the lid, you can simply glue it back on with plastic glue. I have even used super glue witch is not supposed to work with plastic but did work though.

As for black flip top covers you must have orderd one for versions 1, 2, 3. As the manufacture are not making them until they run out of white. They don't even have blue any more until they run out of white. So you were lucky to just get blue and not white. Black is the most popular and then blue then white so they wound up with to much stock for white so they desided to only sell white until they sell out. I bet they will not carry white after that. So you are lucky you got blue and not a white one. Blue looks pretty nice though as it matches the blue cover on the USB ports.

They should have posted that they don't carry black anymore though as you may have not wanted to order it then, and went with a slide card or somthing so you could keep your black looking case. But black has been out for sometime now so you would think they should have mentioned they can't get black a while ago.

I wander if there is some kind of paint you can get for plastic. Maybe you can paint the blue one black. Just a thought. I know when I used to fix typewriters they had special paint for stuff like that. Maybe call up a typewriter repair shop and see if they will sell black paint or even paint it for you. Well maybe not the latter as they will probabaly charge you too much. The type of paint we used did not flake or peal off, that is why I think you need special paint. Come to think of it, maybe you can get model airplain paint and also pick up some model airpain glue to fix that CD holder under the lid. If you do deside to paint it with Model Airplain paint then You may want to undercoat the blue with gray ybdercoat paint first then let it dry then paint with black so it does not peel off. I will have to talk to my brother inlaw about that as he used to own a body shop and knows moare about that.

If you do, do it, then let me know how it works out!

Hope any of my information helps you out!
