Like a couple of others on here, I had a problem with Stealth being to big after following all the steps outlined. I even deleted everything and started all over again but still the file was too big. I was doing the widescreen version, I don't know if that's why, I couldn't get it small enough. I finally found a quick fix! I used a free program called MenuShrink. It's by the same person that made FixVTS and likewise it is a very easy-to-use drag and drop format. You can get it at http://jean.laroche.free.fr/MenuShrink/

I also had problems with DVD Decrypter "hanging up" at the same place over and over again while doing the part in IFO mode- It would get stuck at 75%, I noted that it was "hanging up" at cell 45 which is in chapter 23- once I "unchecked" that cell, everything went smoothly and decrypted. Again, I don't know if it had something to do with it being "widescreen" format or not. But those are the tweaks I had to make to get it to work and anyone else having those issues may want to try that.

@Baller8,

You do not need DVD Decrypter 3.1.0.0. This is a very old version and I only used it to show that this guide will work for any new release. Here is the link to a site that has the latest Decrypter (3.5.4.0):

http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/

Make sure you are trying to rip in IFO Mode!!!. This is the only way you can select which cells to rip or not. After you rip the movie, then you can rip the rest in File Mode. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I can send you the PDF of the guide. This has some highlighting, arrows, and squares on the pics so it is easier to see what is going on.

@jbrio,

If it is hanging anywhere other than chapter 1, then you have a bad or dirty disc. If you uncheck cell 45 (Chapter 23), you will lose some of the movie!!!

Also, I updated the guide so that the compression problem with DVD Shrink is corrected. It uses FixVTS. I wonder if MenuShrink also does the same thing?? It is possible since it is by the same author.

Thank you for letting me know about the problem being a bad or dirty disc (cell 45), I cleaned it, but there are some scratches on it so maybe that is the problem- I'm not used to all these new programs I always got by with DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter and Nero :-).

I tried the FixVTS but still had problems- I did the drag and drop, remove unref and blank cells the first time, then like I said I started the whole process completely over from the beginning of your guide and the second time I used FixVTS I clicked both the remove and in place(no backup)thinking maybe I might have lost track of which files were which but it still was too big when I went into DVD Shrink. I'd like to try it again from start to finish to get the results you got.

Did you just use all the default settings in IFO mode in DVDD? I got a lot of the yellow error or warning boxes saying: Inserting dummy sectors, Possible RCE protection found, Possible structure protection found, 48 areas have been marked as 'suspect', Media region code 1, 3, and User selected region 1 for the disc's region code I didn't see any of that on your log, so I'm not sure what went wrong. Can you tell what the problem is (other than the fact that I'm using Windows XP) :-(

I can't say that MenuShrink is a better alternative than FixVTS but I found the program on the fly today after troubleshooting for the past two days to no avail. All it does is basically removes the "motion" features on the Menu and, if you want to, it allows you to remove the audio from it (I didn't do that part).

Any ideas on what the issues could be?

JaguarGod- also, something else I noticed in DVDD the second time I tried is that where all the cells are listed there is now an * by them. It shows the check boxes, then Cell 1[*] and all of the "cells" listed have that asterick next to them which wasn't there before- is it something in the settings that I need to change or inadvertantly changed?

Sorry Baller8, the version you wanted was 3.1.0 the version I mentioned was 3.1.8 but JaquarGod already said you don't need it anyway, it was just used to show that the older version would work on the newer encryptions.

JaguarGod- is there anyway to "force" DVDD so that it won't hang up on that spot? Or to repair it? Another program to fix it in? Anything????

In the information panel it is VTS/PGC: 1/1 - [02:00:54.03 / 30 fps]
Cell: 45 -[00:04:42.03 / 30 fps]

@jbrio,

The "*" next to the cells means that DVDD know that those are not to be ripped and it will instead make a blank cell. I was confused when you said it will be inserting 48 Dummy Sectors. I do not even think the PSL will make it insert that many. I do not know what you did, but it seems like Decrypter may be removing the protection by itself.

And yes, I used all the default settings even in the new version. The only thing it should detect is the extra VTS. The reason you did not see any of the warnings on my log is because the old version of Decrypter does not have support for RCE protection or Structure protection. You can set the new one not to also, but there is no reason to do that.

Now, which final results do you want to get? The one where it is 3.57GB???? I got that by using IFOEdit & VobBlanker. I got rid of every audio stream except for the Dolby 5.1 i IFOEdit. Then I blanked out every Preview and special feature in VobBlanker. If you decide, you can leave in the DTS and the movie will only compress about 95%, which is what I did for my copy.

As for forcing DVD Decrypter to skip the errors, the only way it to set it up to ignore Read errors. I do not have access to the program to take screen shots, but I think it is in the General Tab. What this will do is get the errors, but rather than retry 25 times, it will just go to the next one. Decrypter will still hang, but it will eventually get past the scratched area and hopefully playback will not be affected. Also, your burner will have a better reader than your DVD-ROM. You can try it once and see if this works.

Before doing this though, try using something like car wax (the spray type) to slightly remove the scratch. Or even better, if you have a GameCrazy by your house, then go there and tell them to fix your disc. They will run it in a buffer that can even fix a disc that was massacred by a knife!!! It costs $2 or 5 times for $5. I would just get the $5 card for 5 times.

Here is my situation first of all. My son is a huge Spongebob fan. I already own all 3 seasons on DVD but he's only 4 so he doesn't have access to them. I am giving him an Xbox for Christmas so I want to burn the seasons to back-up DVD's so he doesn't damage the originals. I successfully burned seasons 1 and 2. Season 3 is giving me trouble. When I start DVD Decryptor, I first see a Region Code conflict. Don't remember the exact error. It automatically forces me to use Region 1 which is fine. About 30 minutes later it says successfully completed. I close Decryptor and open DVD Shrink 3.2 It analyzes fine and then I choose back up (I had to remove alt languages cause file was too large)It seems to encode fine after I press BACK-UP. It asks for the DVD media when ready to burn. It seems to burn fine. After the burn is done and tray ejects, I test it in my DVD player (Which plays burned DVD's) and it says DISC IS DIRTY. I have seen this before due to various protections, but have always overcome the errors through Decrytor software. I have made 3 coasters and have had no success yet. I already duped 40 Year Old Virgin earlier so I have a feeling this is related to that Region Code conflict at the beginning of the Decrytor ststus list. Anyone that can help would be very appreciated, especially if you have successfully burned this Season 3 yourselves. I am a N00B at Afterdawn so I apologize if there is an easy fix. I want to do these 3 dvd's as a Christmas present for him when he opens the XBOX. And yes I already have the XBOX DVD kit which plays burns.

as an alternative to fixvts i found that running deep analysis in dvdshrink also fixes the compression problem. you have to ok past the dialog box, warning that you do not need to run analysis.

Do you mean to click on the "Analyze" button?? If this does the trick then for those that have fast PCs, it is definatley a good alternative!!!

right, actually it is the "analysis" button, when you hover the tip says "deep analysis" and yes it is a slower process.

One quick question. I would like to backup my copy of Stealth, and I have all the software programs listed in the Guide, EXCEPT Dvd Decryptor. Will the DVDFab Decrypter do the same job? I do not want to get into the guide without all of the necessary software.

Please let me know.

There is a good chance that DVDFab will work, but I have not tried it. As long as you can get the VTS on your Hard Drive, you can fix the IFOs. It may involve fixing the DVD with VobBlanker or FixVTS though. DVDFab should be able to handle stealth by itself though. Just make sure you have the latest version.

Also, Smart ripper should do the job since it has an IFO mode. You should really look for DVD Decrypter though. Download it and make a backup. It is a great piece of software.

Another approach can be to Demux the files with VOBEdit and reauthor the movie with something like DVDLab Pro. The only problem will be that getting the subtitles will be frustrating, but making menus is very simple even using the original menus is possible. You can also keep the extra features, but you will have to author them into the DVD.

BTW, I just read the newsletter about the law changes in Finland. If my guides in any way violate the laws, Mods, please remove them completely as well as anything I may have posted that could violate the laws. I do not want anyone to get in trouble or sued. Or, I could completely rewrite the guide and make it for "correcting authoring errors & Scratched Discs" or something like that, but it will still work the same way.

Also, to anyone that does not have them downloaded, please download them just in case. Also, if the link does not give the updated guide (version 1.10.00) PM me with your e-mail address and I will send the updated guide.

Just wanted to post an update since the site has been so helpful to me.

I used the DVDFab Decrypter and then I used DVD Clone to choose the files I wanted, deleted the languages that were not useful, as well as the subtitles and previews, and then I encoded the dvd again to another directory on my hd, and then I opened DVD Clone again and used the Write Existing Info. function and it worked like a charm. Interestingly, I did not have to go in and change any files or clean them up. I have full DTS Sound as well. I also like to have the menus, and they are preserved as well.

I just thought I would share this piece of info. that worked for Stealth at least.

Thanks again guys.

I have never heard of or used Videora, so I am not sure what is going on there, but DVD Decrypter can definately get the whole movie to your HD. If this program can convert VOB files, then you should have no problem with a movie.

Go into DVD Decrypter's IFO Mode as shown in the guide and select the main movie. Next, right click on the PGC and select "file splitting=>none". Then press the Decrypt button and you will have 1 large VOB file, an IFO File and a Txt file. You will only need the VOB file. If you have an ARccOS or Ripguard movie, make sure you do not rip any of the blank or garbage cells in Chapter 1.

If your program need audio and video to be separate, then after going into IFO Mode and setting file splitting to none, go into the "stream Processing" tab. Enable Stream processing by putting a check on the tab. THen right click on one of the streams and select "set all - demux". This will separate audio, video, and Subs. All you will need is the M2V file (video) and the AC3 file (audio). The .sub file is subtitles, but I do not know how to use or convert that format. If you need chapter points, you will have to right click on the PGC and select "create information file".

I followed your guide last night and got hung up in IFOEdit. I am using XP, so I downloaded version 9.6.0.

My problem is, after I open VTS_01_0.IFO I get a popup that says "Detected DVD Drive. IFOEdit can't decrypt encrypted VOB files." I hit okay and the program starts to run but hangs at about 1%. Any assistance woould be appreciated.

Thanks.

Make sure you rip first with DVD Decrypter. Then remove the DVD from the drive and try again. It may be possible that IFOEdit read the DVD Disc rather than the DVD Folder on your Hard Drive and that is what that error seems to suggest. IFOEdit cannot process CSS Encrypted files and also cannot give playback of CSS Encrypted DVDs.

For some reason, I'm missing the audio from my VOB file. I'm not trying to re-burn the DVD, I'm actually just trying to get the main movie in a VOB file to convert it for use on my iPod.

I figured out that for Stealth, nothing but the last cell of the first chapter needed to be selected. I checked that last cell, and also only left chapter 1 checked so that it'd rip quickly and I could test the file... The only other options I changed were to enable stream processing, and select the video stream and English AC3 audio like I've done with all my other DVDs.

But no audio at all... Any suggestions of what to try?

Before beginning, make sure the volume on your media player is at max!!! Also, when playing back gradually raise the speaker volume until max or you can hear audio. When playing back .VOB files, audio is very soft. This has something to do with a windows setting, but I do not remember what to change so that AC3/volume is louder.

I do not own an Ipod or anything else that is similar, so I would not know exactly what you need. However, I see this sort of like re-authoring a DVD.

If I understand you correctly, you want to rip the main movie only, keeping only the audio you want and the subtiltes correct?? It seems like you did it correctly, but try it using the following method:

You best bet would be to Rip the main movie, but demuxing everything else out.

Edit: Images uploaded...

Before you begin ripping, you have to set up DVD Decrypter to Demux the files and to save a 1 large VOB File.

First, right click on the PGC and set file splitting to none:

Go into the Stream processing tab and enable stream processing:

Then, deselect what you want to keep:

Next right click on one of the streams and select ?set selected ? Demux?

After this, select the remainder of the streams and rip the movie:

The result will be a VOB file with only the Main movie, the audio you want and the subtitles you want.

The files are as follows:

The text file is just the stream information.
The IFO is the regular IFO File
The next three files shown are the .SUB Subtitle files that were stripped out of the movie
The File with the Blue Icon is the .AC3 that was stripped out
The next file is the .DTS file that was stripped out
The final file is the VOB that you want to use. This has only the video, audio, and subtitles that you wanted to leave in.

Hm... I tried it exactly as you said, and there's still no audio. Same thing happens on my roommate's computer. I also tried the other language audio tracks instead, but no luck. It's weird because I ripped a few others (in IFO mode as well), no problem. Since this was the first one to give me issues, I figured it was something related to the copy protection.

Thanks for your suggestion though, let me know if you come across any other possibilities
