I think I will try to learn how to do a scan with DVDinfopro. I have the registered version. I assume the help menu should provide information on how to use it.

I want to see what the Maxell MIT ritek R03 scan.

I use one that has been burned correct?

I downloaded and ran the latest Beta version of DVDInfoPro and I can not get it to work. I am going to uninstall it and reinstall the other version and see if I can get it to scan.

Anybody else had this issue?

I'm working on a spindle of those MIJ Maxell's right now. They are working fantastic.

Alcohol, do you have a read out of a Maxel MIT 8x R03? How would that compare to the MIJ?

Cheers.
@9mmruger1

Honestly, I think the Maxell 8X DVD+R (Hitachi - made in japan) has more quality than the R03 (Maxell MIT). Perhaps, it's my DRU710A that has got used to burning them (Maxell 8X +R "mij"). However, I could be wrong though, but I've never and or rarely use Ritek before. I remember using just a spindle of 25 Maxell MIT somewhere last year, but I can't find it anywhere to scan now.

Do you use DVDInfoPro? I can't seem to get the beta version to scan?

Any ideas?

Office Depot 16X media scans,
Compare this with FUJI MIJ's (Taiyo Yuden)

This is why I'm hesitant to Buy the Newer 16X Office Depot Media.

Nah... I primarily used Nero CD-DVD Speed, but I've used DVDInfoPro like a few times only. You can try the "DVDInfoPro advert" the one with the ad, it's free and it will scans right through, but I think for my SONY DRU710A, Nero CD-DVD Speed use C1 & C2 scanning system. With that being said, it's more accurate for my drive, I guess. A couple months ago, ScubaBud told me that since DVDInfoPro use C8 for my DRU, so that it's not on par with C1 & C2. On the other hand, you can try "k-probe" - it has a CD-DVD scanning engine as well.

@gear

actually it makes a BIG diff. what drive you use to scan, my pioneer couldn't scan accurately if it's life depended on it...but, i like pioneers only because they are such fast burners and rip very quickly too~ :)

so,
Quote:
let me ask you guys this, does it make a difference on burner model on a scan?
yes, very much so if you consider Pioneer burners into the equation, i suggest doing the scans on a Liteon, Benq, whatevers, just not on a Pioneer as you will get diff. results almost each and every time with the SAME disc, tested at diff. times ~ :)

i have only been burning for about, well, since i became a member here. so about 6 months or so.

but i'll look into a new one, perhaps i can get one for christmas.

thanks doc !!

Thanks doc, I did get a follow up from Nic Wilson regarding his program. Seems that the PIO Scan mode will not work with my LG. He suggests that I change to a BenQ.

I think he's right. Christmas is coming.

Thanks.

9mmreger1,

Not that there is anything wrong with LG drives but I luv my benq and have yet to hear of any complaints from the retail models. I did hear of booktype setting reverting back to dvd+r instead of dvd-rom but that is probably something to do with qsuite. I was a lite-on freak but my benq has won me over. I would still put litey's second on my prefered list of reasonably priced dvdrw drives (I know plexor is supposedly the caddy but overpriced IMHO). Even plextor has a model out now that is a rebadged benq.

Here is the reason I'll never use Ritek discs again. I used to think they were the greatest. Excellent printing surface and good PIE/PIF scans. Now that I have burned several hundred of them I find that they deteriorate very badly with the passage of time. This only seems to happen with the -R G04 and G05. I have +R R01 and R03 that haven't been so bad. These are the only discs I have that have done this except for BeAll and GQ (Lead Data). I do a quick scan of all my disc using Nero CD/DVD Speed Test Disc Quality test after recording, so I know this disc was not this way when recorded. This is a G05 that was probably recorded at 4X or 6X since the last bunch of G05 would all make coasters burned at 8X with any of my burners. I'm not sure which burner I used, but it doesn't matter. This disc was approximately 3 months old when scanned. Every Ritek I test that was burned more than a few months ago has this problem. I keep all of my DVDs in black DVD cases. If I'm doing something wrong it only seems to affect the Ritek -R printable discs.

Holy cow!!! I'm surprised man, sad but true. Again, like I said, my 3 top media choices are:

1) genuine Taiyo Yuden DVD+R (Yuden Co. Ltd)
2) Verbatim DVD+R "Advanced Azo" (Mitsubishi - MCC003/004)
3) Maxell DVD+R (Hitachi - made in japan)

Additionaly, I've seen a lot of Ritek failed/bad burned from Nero's log in the Nero forum lately.

YEEEEE!
(brief passage of time as heart attempts to restart after seeing something hideous......brain trying to assimilate horrifying vision.......much like waking up after night of heavy drinking and wild debauchery with beautiful woman, only to discover that someone has replaced last night's angel with some hideous subterranean troll who is still sleeping on your arm....)
Never expected to see this from Ritek. Especially since that disk is only 6 months old.

That disc was only 3 months old when scanned. I've had that scan around for a while. It is fairly typical of my older Riteks. Just about the best cheap discs I've ever got were the Prodisc S03. I've got some of those that are over 2 years old and they still give good scans. Unfortunately, I guess those aren't made any more. The only ones that I can seem to rely on now are TY and Verbatim. I'm slowly transferring (when I can) my older Riteks to those. The MIJ Maxells seem to be OK also. I don't use them too much because they are relatively expensive. Walmart sells 25 printable MIJ Maxells for about $15.00. I can get TY on line checper.

Thats weird with the Ritek's, I've got a lot burned around 2 year old and all scan fine (nearly all at 95) in my Benq.

Also scanned burns I've recently made with Maxell DVD-R (ritek g5) and they come out at 97 quality score.

Can you post up some of your Ritek scans from Nero CD-DVD Speed? I would like to see other different scans besides Yuden, Verbs and Maxell (Hitachi) only.

Just a note here, remember that any 1 - 3 on PIF is consider high quality media.

Are those old Riteks you have that still scan well printable? I've noticed that the few non-printable ones that I have aren't nearly so bad. My G04 and G05 Riteks all scan like they have labels on them. I also don't seem to have the problem with Ritek +R discs. If I'm doing something wrong I'd like to know what it is. I've only had this problem with G04, G05, all BeAll and all GQ(Lead Data crap), all printable. Everything else seems OK as long as I got a good burn in the first place.

Hi gurnard,

If you right click on each of those graphs in kprobe you can delete the spikes. That is probably just a spec of dirt or something on the disc.

check this out.... my dad made a copy of this on a memosux (coded as a ricohjpnr01) and then i re-copied it with a verbatim 004.... horrible results, same movie, different burner...

here is his.

and here is my copy of the same disk from his on a verb 004

and i know my firware is a tad old, but the new update does nothing specific, so its still the oem version..

Nope Dave, the old ones are non printable and -R. I've started using Ritek x8 printables (G05).

You may have something with the print surface (over time), only problems I've had was when i put labels on the disc's way back when I first started backing up my dvd's.

Did'nt do a lot with labels thank god, cause a lot don't play in several dvd players (friends & family), but do in my trusty pioneer standalone :)
