Good Deal. Thanks Alkohol. I just needed to update my Nero Package to get NV3. I've tried free Avi2DVD programs and gotten nothing but headaches. Avi2DVD and The Film Machine failed me miserably. It could definitely be user error, but I have feeling NV3 will do the job fine. It just seems that most of the freeware encoders leave a lot to be desired. Oh well, they're freeware for a reason. There aren't too many awesome Freeware programs like DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. Thanks again for the info. Later.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and of course right back at ya. We've all learned who is who, who knows their stuf, (and who doesn't) and what someones specialty is. Then there are those that know most everything about everything. We still have our opinions and preferences and that is what makes it worth while.

I prefer rb/cce for encoding and verbs as my media of choice and think I know a little about bitsetting. Then there's the doc and he knows anything and everything about media. Alkohol, arniebear, and creaky just know a little (or a lot) about everything. I'm sure I left somebody out and I apologize. Oh if you need to know anything about a car or pickup or backing up dvd's as well there's gear79.

It's nice knowing who to count on for certain and different areas of expertise. It's good to have a place we can come and chat and teach and learn with our buddys.

Looks like I kind of got this thread detoured with my question about avi's. My apologies. Good night to all.

Thanks to all for the kind words, over the year I have been on this forum I have gotten to know all the people who are the helpers and mostly all are on this thread others I may miss are gear79, Saugmon, gear79, andmerr,9mmruger,LOCOENG and soooooooo many other great people. Everybody has provided a shedload of information and I am constantly learning something new each day. I really would like to than Alkohol for the scans since I cannot get this program to work with my Dells, no matter what I do, his scans have provided me with much incite, and they look like what I think mine would look like. As for the Doc what can I say he is the Elvis of media and Mort81 I have nothing but awe at what he can do with RB, wish I was half as good.

Getting back to kind of topic, I think someone is going to give me IMTOO Ripper Pack Platinum has anyone used this software, as I am unfamiliar with it, and is it any good?

Edit: how could I forget my buddy gurnard the Ritek man, cheers to him too :)

wooooohooooo.... i am in a gang now.. !!!

you know, i have not totally followed this thread (meaning not reading word for word) as it is a LONG thread. but seeing my name in here makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

i have read the majority though, and have added my comments, suggestions, and 2 cents..

when i was a n00b here, it was mort, doc, creaky, saugmon, and arniebear who helped me out with my problems. now, 8 months later, i have gotten pretty damn good at what we all do here. still learning to this day as well.. i'd like to add my personal thank you to this thread, and all members here who have contributed.

alkohol has some of the best step by step guides by far.
doc is the authority on TY
mort is a booktyping mofo (no offense)
saugmon finds good deals and posts them, plus adds his knowledge
creaky........ well, the Nero-nator
arniebear.... good info from him too (linked me to anydvd)
tokijin... we have not really crossed paths yet, but we will
9mmrugger1... i have learned from you as well (cant remember specifics)

i know i have left out alot of members, but this is mainly for this thread.

there are lots of n00bs here every day, and with out all of us here, this site would not be what it is today.

and the whole 'wife' thing.... i totally understand. my wife says i spend more time in here then i do with her. go figure.

lastly, i wanted to ask DOC... something.
remember when i asked about the BSOY f/w for the litey. i did it that week, but had not burned on a - dvd yet, only the +.
well, i got my first error and ruined 2 ritek G05 disks. got to 1% burn and failed. (the disk had about 25% written to it)
i think that firmware made it to where it wont write to DVD-R no more.
i sent creaky my log file from Nero and he said it looks fine but my drive was not recognized. it is, cuz after that error, i put a verb MCC004 and it burned no problem, then i stuck another G05 and it failed, tried another verb, and bingo.

anyway, really dont care about the - format myself, but these G05s were free.... i am a + man myself.

anyway, i just wanted to vent (cuz my wife could care less about my stories)
and i wanted to express thanks where its due..

may have to make another 'thank you' thread !!! lol

Busy day here, eh?

Can i just add that i was a newbie a month and a half ago, and even tough in terms of knoledge i still am one, i have come a LONG WAY to learn a few bits in this new 'burning world'. Altough the burning is the main issue, i also learned how to 'maintain' my pc better. Hell, i can even read a bit of a Nero log!!!
The first people to 'guide' me here were the great Creaky, Doc Kivory and Alkohol. Tokijin was also very patient with me recently. These four guys are brilliant. There's more obviouly, but these are the ones i know best. I hope by the end of the year, i join the your club, i believe that i will be guided a lot through these 'burning' routes by you... For the tenth time - Thanks guys.

This IS a 'give and take forum', and i believe i'm doing my best to guide new people through my experiences.

PS. Since everyone is talking about age and marriage, i'm 27 and i'm (almost) divorced... :)

[edit] did i mention i can't spell to save my life?

@gear79

well, i finally got around to trying out the new firmware for the Litey 1633S, since reading your issue, i have tried my Taiyo Yuden DVD-R formats to try to "reproduce the same error as you"...LOL...unfortunately, i was NOT successful in getting a "coaster"...

while this MAY be a first, i think with this newest of firmwares for that older drive we both have...they have placed their emphasis MORE on the DVD+R media being recognized than the DVD-R format :)

i don't think the write strategies were improved upon for the DVD-R format...if i had any more RitekG05s, i would certainly try it, but since i burned my initial 500+ batch from years ago, i have ONLY stuck with Taiyo Yuden for the DVD-R format these days, with an occasional Verbatim 8x DVD-R and Maxell's MIJ 8x DVD-R as well~ so, i'm sorry to say i don't have any RitekG05s to use to replicate the error you have...

after all is said and done, i being a DVD+R man myself...i guess my only advice to you is to CONTINUE using the DVD+R format in the future after you are done w/ the RitekG05s...personally, i RARELY even use DVD-R format anymore, booktyping DVD+R to dvd-rom has been so much more beneficial to me in terms of compatibility that i use DVD+R for 90% of my backups...

the only time i use DVD-R format anymore is for my wife's family and my parent's standalone dvd players that INSIST on not playing my YUDEN000T02s booktyped to dvd-rom..go figure??? and for those, i only trust using Taiyo Yuden in any of the 3 rated speeds: TYG01s, TYG02s, and the TYG03s (4x,8x,16x respectively)..they ALL work on their home dvd players without fail...their players just don't like DVD+R booktyped to dvd-rom, who knows why? ironically they are both Toshiba's that i bought for them...fairly recent, but not spanking new...

anyways, guess with each passing day, Ritek's are becoming MORE and MORE problematic for you and leaving a "bad taste" with you gear... :(

not much more i can add or analyze about that...i guess on my various drives, i do not encounter some of these issues that others are having, whatever the variables/factors are in that i am successful on mine and others not with theirs...is still a mystery~:)

Yeah this is a pretty sweet thread. I doubt there are as many AD addict's in any other thread. Congrats go to Gear and Alkohol for joining the AD addict club. Here's a strange question, but bear with me. It seems like almost all quality scores on Nero CD/DVD Speed have been 100 recently. I know, good problem to have lol. Is there a setting or something that isn't correct. I'll repost a couple of them just so you guys can have a look. Thanks all, and to quote Doc, Happy Burning!

Maybe is nothing wrong with the settings. Maybe your media is not the proper one. Try some Memor-sux,and maybe you will succeed to get less than %100:~)!

LOL..agree w/ cyprusrom on that one~ :)

i think you got a really good batch of the TYG02, added to the fact that those 2 particular burns are WELL "far from the limit/edge" of the disc could account for your excellent scans~ :)

you obviously have your setup done properly and the resulting burns attest to that, keep it up~

TAIYO YUDEN ROCK!

@9mmruger1

sorry, bit behind with my replies lately, last night i had some burning to catch up on and had a rest from AD (even i need a night off now and then LOL)..

anyways i saw this -
Quote:
I only wish I could do this with the LG. Not supported by DVD info pro so I have to manually reset with every burn in decrypter or imgburn.
- i don't burn with either of those proggies but i can certainly couch for Nero & booktyping on LG drives. i have 2 LG burners and whenever i burn +R (rare i'll admit now i got my sexy Verb TY -R's!!) the +R are automatically set to DVD-Rom correctly, and Nero never moans about burning -R ie it all works as it should..

@creaky

Yeah, that(NERO) will be my next consideration for purchase. Are you able to do scans in Nero with your LG's (4163b)in particular?

DVD info pro will not recognize the LG for scanning, so I cannot do a scan with one, and the NEC is purportly a lousey scanner, but great burner. See thread: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=161859

Cheers.

@9mmruger1 -

yeah, my 4163B & 4167B work fine in dvdinfopro. i've very rarely used the Nero scans, i'm not into the quality scanning malarkey, just the rare CRC scan is sufficient for me..

i haven't really done much scanning since this thread - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/193298

I cannot get DVDinfo pro to perform a scan using my LG 4163b. I emailed DVDinfo and got a reply that the LG was not supported from the creator of DVDinfo pro. How did you get yours to work?

hmmm, i'm sure they work (creaky shuffles feet!). i only ever do CRC scanning when i change burners or have trouble with discs or rebuild PC or stuff like that, so it'll have been a little while since i last CRC scanned... i'm sure i scanned a movie a few weeks back, yer i did, and it was found to have loads of CRC errors by dvdinfopro..

trying to think when i bought those LG's now, must be few months by now.. i'll triple check when i get in, you got me thinking now, my poor addled memory, i blame the 5hrs sleep a night :)

seeing creaky's posts in other areas i go to is always fun to read..

anyway, back on topic...

@ doc, the riteks have not left a bad taste for me, after all, i mentioned that they were FREE (my mom paid for them, was an added bonus for my epson) so i cant complain.
however, i still have about 40 or so left. i agree, and i myself am a DVD+R man.....
it was only after that update did i notice it, but then again, i dont thik i want to prove it wrong by purchasing another batch of ANY -r formats... just to test.. i know that ALL my +R's work perfectly, so i will stick with them......

in the burning world.... you win some, you lose some !!
and considering that in my burns to date.. i have had 3 total coasters.
one on my desk has no audio, and that was my fault (i mistakenly did not check the DTS tab and the other 2 were these riteks) so i say i have done well..

anyway.. thanks for getting back to me doc !!

oh, and by the way @ tokijin.... i am not ADA status yet, i think i got like 800-900 more to go !

I am fairly new to using Nero CD-DVD Speed and I have noticed some differences in the way my results appear. I just assume it is in a setting that I do not have set properly. Could I ask one of you with "mega" experience why this is happening. Problem: When I do a Disc Quality scan I do not get the PI Failures and Jitter but not PI Errors. Mine looks like ""Tokijin's"" above. I have looked at earlier posts in this forum and they look differently as they show the PI Failures. Mine does not give me averages, maximum or total for the PI failures??? If I knew how to post a picture in here I would show you what I mean, maybe I could get some advice on that as well. If you go to page 1 of this forum and check out "blivetNC" graph you can see the difference. I would like to get a read out like "blivetNC"... It shows the PI errors and PI failures... Thanks for reading this and I would love some advice... L

Make sure you have the latest version of CD/DVD Speed.

93. Q. How can I tell if my burned disc is of good quality?
A. Well besides you using quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's, you can use a program called Nero CD/DVD Speed to measure the quality of your scans. It measures POF, PIF and gives your disc a quality score based largely on it's precoreded Media ID. In my experience that's the key component to getting a good quality score. A crap manufacturer like CMC Mag won't maintain a great quality score over time, even if you follow all the advice given on AD for successful burning. You don't need to know exactly what PIF's and POF's are, just know the more of them, the more likely your disc will skip, lag, freeze, or not boot at all. When people say CMC Mag or Memorex media is crap, that info is based largely on many Nero CD/DVD Speeds scans by burn enthusiaists on CMC Mag media that have yielded terrible quality scores. Try it yourself and see. You can find Nero CD/DVD Speed here: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html Plextor DVD Burners aren't compatible with Nero CD/DVD Speed. For their DVD Burners you need to use a program called Plextools, which does about the same thing as Nero CD/DVD Speed minus the quality score. You can find Plextools here: http://www.plextools.com/download/download.asp

Here's another Scan. I burned this one with Alcohol 120% just for fun, another 100. Must've lucked out and got an awesome laser. Usually I burn with DVD Decrypter. Alcohol 120% is my backup for scratched originals.

quite correct, the pi/po scans don't work in dvdinfopro for my 2 LG drives, they show up as recognised drives but you click start and it just sits there. proves how often i do quality scans then eh!

And to get myself back on topic i did CRC check that TuffDisc (CMC Mag) and nobody quote me but that's one single solitary non-plural isolated singular CMC disc that has zero CRC errors on it. Don't want anyone thinking i advocate that CMC discs are decent from one single successful burn :) :) :)
