ok here's an update : anubis is still a lead poster here and he's always around!

Kookoo was here not to long ago and still appears to be active but not under his old account(for it was banned).Rabbity was here not to long ago but recently I saw he was suspended for an invalid email account.

I've been posting here since I joined. The discussion was about the 2 gpu's and cpu's compaired to each other.I believe gmscribe was the last person to post something descent(my opinion).

tycobb, thanks for the update.

Going onto the GPU and CPU of the PS3 and Xbox360. This discussion has been going on for ages now and I can remember when Kookoo first created this thread, its good to see its still going.

Well from our disscusions and disagreements way back, its now very clear the PS3 is the more powerful of the two. I think the question is, just how much more powerful. Will it be the equivelent to the Xbox over the PS2, from what I have read Iam 90% sure it wont. Iam guessing will be more like the power the Super Nintendo had over the megadrive when comparing the graphical capabilities of both machines.

PS3 looks and sounds good but at this moment in time so does the xbox 360 and with great games like Ghost Reacon, Saints Row, Dead Rising and more to come like Gears of War, Mass Effect and Lost Planet, Sony better make sure that their games in the pipeline dont disapoint.

@ddp,yeah but don't feel bummed out, they were still better than half the posts here lmao!!!!!.Seriously though I mean descent in terms of the actual topic.

@zelda64 I pretty much agree with that. They have alot of work to do if they want to be #1 again.I should add that it's the least of my worries at this point my biggest worry about ps3 is stability and availability.

The xbox was more powerful then ps2 but it didn't seem to make much difference. In fact I thought in terms gfx the ps2 held it's own pretty well. The real thing for me is not power but something new, the cell offers different things than a regular processor and bluray offers more space.Once these things are tapped into by the devs it's my hope that we see things we never saw before. The wii has similar things.

Well that being said I still think ps2 is better. This is because of the games. Ps2 has more and better games. They (xbox and ps2) may have some of the same games but the games only on xbox don?t compare to the games only on ps2. Sure xbox has halo and fable but you can always get those games on the PC if you wait awhile. But I know xbox hasn?t been around as long as ps2 but xbox had a longer time to prepare. But I still think ps3 will have better games only on ps3 then the games only on xbox 360. They may not have more this time since xbox 360 has been around longer but they will have better games only on ps3. But xbox 360 will also have some really good games you can only get on xbox 360.

It's all about balance though. I got flamed on the playstation forums of all places (ironically filled with 360 fanboys) for suggesting the 360 be a good buy when its had a price drop. It has good games, but so far not enough to justify a purchase in my opinion. Also, many you can get on the pc, Gears of War for example is being ported to the pc.

Well I guess your right. It does depend on what forum you are on to see what system is better. But what I said is true or at least I think it is true. Anyways about the 360 being cheaper then the ps3 it doesn?t matter because ps3 would cost more to make and I think it is better. So I would pay more money to have the better system. But for me it doesn?t matter because I?m eventually going to own all the next gen consoles. And I don?t hate xbox or xbox 360 I think they are good systems as well.

Hi Kookoo, it has been a while. I have been good, its good to hear from you again, how have you been?

Anyway at the moment I have an xbox360 and isnt worth buying now. Its better to buy when it gets that price drop. There are three good games for the system but hopefully there will be some real AAA titles by the time it gets its price drop.

Its a bit unfair to put the xbox360 down because some of the games are coming to PC. The reason being its exactly the same with Playstation as you had games like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid coming to the PC aswell. Oh and dont mean to start anything but going back to the xbox to PS2 comparison, I wasnt suggesting one was better I was just saying the xbox was more powerful techniqualy.

You raise a good point. Some of the most anticipated ps3 titles aren't exclusive. GTA and Assassin's Creed, to name a couple HUGE titles.
But if you have a gaming PC in the first place, why would you need a console?

and uh... how about those darn pipelines?!

Namely because gamepad support is scarce and emulation software for gamepads suck. The console has always been easier to deal with just pop the game in and play!

with pc's there's alot of installing, patching, tweeking, overclocking, people just trying to get the most out of the hardware.Another thing is the life of hardware on the pc isn't as long and is more expensive. For instance if I bought a nice gfx card for about $300 in 3 years it will be outdated and you will have framerate problems.

Console devs all develope around the same hardware and after years of working with it they tap into it.Look at the ps2's hardware try making games that looked as good as ratchet and clank 3 with those specs on the pc(e.g. 300mhz cpu rounding off etc)

Yeah but your missing one important detail. The ps2 game is not a direct port to PC it's a whole different game. As for xbox it is just a port to it so it's pretty much the same with little differences. As for metal gear solid I never new it was going o the PC. That's cool but dissapointed I wish it was only for ps2 and maby psp.

Loads of PS2 games are on PC aswell. Metal Gear has been on it for ages and I have played Final Fantasy aswell as Metal Gear on both PC and Playstation and they seemed pritty much the same to me.

Anyway I was reading an article on PS3 Resistance Fall of Man. It will take up alot of space on a disc which suprised me. So for EXAMPLE if it was released on xbox 360 it would take up 2 DVD's, this isnt a problem of course but I wasnt expecting it from Resistance.

A quick question but I havent been bothered to research into what the small PS logo button does on the PS3 controler. Are Sony coppying the Xbox 360 guide button?

actually in the thick of things, There aren't many ports from consoles to pc's there are however many ports from the pc to the console but again not when compaired to all the games on the pc(less then 1 percent both ways).Microsoft made games are ported to and fro from the pc like halo which isn't really exclusive to xbox.

Resistance from what been reported would take 3 dual layer dvd disc's.It's reported so far at 22gb but each daul layer dvd only holds 8.5 gb so it would take 3!!!!!!

I'm fairly sure the middle button on the ps3 controller is a home button.Controllers are copied all the time the 360 was not the first controller with that feature.Gamepads for the pc had this feature long before xbox 360 cam along.

Yeah I know what you mean but on xbox almost all their best games are on PC as well because of microsoft. Some ps2 games may be on th PC but not all of their top ps2 series are. This is just my opinion and what I think.

Well yes xbox games are on PC and Microsoft are capetalising on it with Windows Vista. The Xbox will work inconjunction with the PC from what I have read and one nice feature is the fact you will be able to play PC gamers online through Xbox 360. So in a nutshell you would buy the xbox 360 in one of two ways, 1) if you cant aford a PC or 2) If you like to play some games through a game pad with the added bonus of easier to plug and play as well as the feature of a media player for the living room. (yes I know PS3 can do the same, Iam talking from the point of view from those who like the xbox

Wow would it take 3 DVD's!!! That is not as good as one Blue ray disc so PS3 has an advantage there but still its not a big blow for the Xbox 360.

Oh i wasnt saying PS3 was copying the xbox controler, I was asking the question is it the same, becuase obviously Sony as well as Micrtosoft have coppied things like Sony copying the motion sensors which Microsoft done for the PC and Microsoft copying analog joysticks and shoulder buttons, etc.

"I cant belive this thread is still going. Where is Kookoo, fazyninja/rabbity"

hey zelda its me fazyninja, i was in the procces of moving house so i was not at anytime connected to the internet and when i got back my account was banned so i just made a new one.

looks like i have missed loads, so i better get to it.

"its now very clear the PS3 is the more powerful of the two. I think the question is, just how much more powerful."

zelda, its hard to believe you said that, lol, well i would have said the same except i keep reading articles by devs that have worked for both xbox 360 and ps3 and everytime they say the same thing, which is that "it will be nearly impossible to tell the difference between the two consoles" now i could believe the cgi movies from sony or just look at the specs, but i choose to look at games in production for both consoles like gears of war and heavenly sword and also take into consideration what devs say.

"Ps2 has more and better games"

it may have more but its only your opinion when it comes to which console has better games.

"Gears of War for example is being ported to the pc."

well M$ owns the rights to the game, so i gues if the game sells well then they will keep it as an exclusive.

"Resistance from what been reported would take 3 dual layer dvd disc's.It's reported so far at 22gb but each daul layer dvd only holds 8.5 gb so it would take 3!!!!!!"

well i am not sure it works like that, from what i have read, games like resistence are large and do take a lot of space up, but could also probably be put onto one dvd, sounds crazy but you have to take into consideration a few things such as that its easier to develope for the xbox 360 so it would be easier to condence the game in the same amount of time, the resistance devs probably thought that if they had all that space then there would be no point in condensing the game but if it was made on dvd then i do not think the game would have to be held back at all in graphics or size but only that the devs would have to put a lot more time in making it fit on a dvd and also remember oblivion, there were many people who said that b/c of the games size and graphics that it would be on 4 disks but it went for just 1.

so what i am trying to say (just incase that did not make sence) is that although resistance is 22gb on blu ray ps3 does not mean it would be 3 disk dvd xbox 360 if the devs did there job well. but if i am wrong and it would be on 3 dvd if ported over to xbox 360, then i still have to say that i am not very bothered just as long as all multiplayer data was fit onto 1 disk.

(if this post of mine did not make sence, then i am sorry, its probably b/c i wrote this post over a period of 3 hours while playing saints row.

PS3 specs may look better than xbox 360 but i am yet to see a game on the PS3 that looks better than any of the top end xbox 360 games such as gears of war, mass effect and halo 3.

Hey, Just thought I would see whats being said, this may have already been mentioned but was there talks of ps3 having to curb the amount of ps3's in production due to something related to the blue ray device? i'll look it up because Ime sure I heard something like that.

Hey i found a report about the shortage

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory?id=2399107

This may become like the 360 shortage scenario or worse, does anyone know how many 360's were shipped in the us in comparison to the expected 400,000 ps3's?
