Even with the 5.8.1.1 version of AnyDVD, I cannot get produce a backup copy of my owned original DVD of Species 2 to play on my DVD player. The copy shows the loading then it gets stuck in the read process. I also own the other two DVDs of the Species (that is Species and Species 3). Interestingly, Species and Species 3 can be backed up just fine. It's the Species 2 DVD back-up that is causing the issue. I've borrowed my friends Species 2 DVD to fault-isolate the problem to see if its my original DVD media that is at issue. But my friend's original DVD of Species 2 produced the same results of non-playability on a DVD player.
Interstingly, even the non-longer supported DVD-Xcopy Platinum couldn't back it up. Any idea what is going on (i.e. is there some special scheme that preventing the back-up step)?
@dave46081
So your able to rip and burn it - the problem is that you can't play the copy- right? If it's a problem w/ the copy protection you wouldn't be able to rip it so I think they problem may lie with your media. Have you tried playing the copies in the pc? What brand of dvd's are you using? Burn speed?
Taiyo Yuden DVD is the media I use. It is the most compliant for my player. Did you Ritek DVDs for my back-up copies in the past, but they were 85% compatible with DVD players. Burn speed is 8x, but I could drop it down and see what happens, but all my burns are 100% full-proof @ 8X. Have a Plextor PX-716UF burner and it works great. It does work in the PC- forgot to mention that.
I recall the unique Sony Little Black Book DVD protection and was wondering if this DVD (Species 2) has one too. Not sure if there is a unique protection scheme on this one.
@dave46081
If you could rip it then it's not a copy protection issue. I did little black book - playback fine. I haven't tried Species 2.
I also use Taiyo Yuden's and burn at 8x - there was only one time w/ 1 spindle that 1 dvd player (out of many) won't play. Reduced burn speeds/different burners- still no luck - the dvd player was brand new -just for the heck of it used a lens cleaning disc on it and guess what they now play. Go figure.
Some other things to try make sure your firmware is up to date and since your burner supports booktyping try booktyping +r/rw discs to dvd-rom makes the discs almost universally compatible.
Excellent suggestion. Did read on afterdawn about your recommendation is the most compatible over DVD-R, but didn't have any luck on a specific link that is on a procecural level. In other words I'm not sure how to do "DVD+R booktyping to dvd-rom"
Also need to mention I have Nero 7.0 as my burning SW and already did the latest Plextor firmware update a while back.
Since I was able to repeat the problem with the two rips and playback issues, and have no other issues I figure its either a unique scheme not addressed in AnyDVD or my Samsung DVD player doesn't like that one DVD- but is ok with the other two Species DVD back-ups (go figure.)
Once I get your link to a procedureal "DVD+R booktyping to dvd-rom" I think my problems will be over.
With your info, I found an excellent link (procedural) for booktype bitsetting. The one I used was for Nero and I just changed it- it was bascially Recorder>Choose Recorder>Options> BookType Setting pulldown to "DVD-ROM" > OK. Details at the below site. Will see how this plays out.
