some common and easily solvable problems and their solutions are listed below:
Problems
1."not a valid ps2 disc"
"game skips/freezes"
"sound is choppy/skips"
"screen goes black after inserting disc"
"after inserting game screen return to browser screen"
Solutions
1.use high quality Made in Japan media ie Maxell/TaiyoYuden/Verbatims
2.get 8x media and burn at 4x
3.while burning leave the computer alone.don't use any other programs
4.rebuild it
5.try pressing square do special boot.
6.use your tool (slide tool/ flip top) correctly
7.use the latest swap magic 3.6 or get a fix from

8. Clean the laser
2."Screen has gone mad. I can only see half of the game screen. (the colours are wierd as well.) "
don't panic. you are playing a game from a different region. say your ps2 is PAL and you are trying to play an NTSC game.
at the boot-up screen of swap magic. go to video mode scroll and choose the other region. say if you have PAL console then NTSC and the vice-versa.

rebuild it.
5."Insert PS2 format disc"
this simply means you are not using the swap magic discs. put the swap magic disc first, then swap it with your burned game.
even if this doesn't resolve your problem. then post your problem but FOLLOW this format:

Ok then, how do you explain this
Name of Game - All My Games (Gun, POP 3, etc, etc)
Game Region - Both
Media Make - Ridisc, Tuffdisc
Media ID - G05
Disc Max Speed - 8x
Speed of Burning - 2.5x to 4x
PS2 Modification (Swap Magic Version)
PS2 Version (V12 - Slimline)
Game acquired (original disc/back-up disc)
Rebuilded (No)
Rebuilding Software - CD/DVD Gen & Apache2
Burning Software - DVD Decrypter
Problem - It works all fine m8, but for some reason, if i don't play it after a while (the dic/game/backup). And One day when I suddenly want to play it again, it stuffs up, or freezes, and it doesnt even have a scratch on it.

i recommend getting taiyo yuden as they are the best discs i have tried andive tried about 6 different brands.Can someone tell me if i can still rebuild a god of war DVD5 image downloaded from the internet using the expert tool

when i started thje file was over 4gb once i finished it was just under 4gb and it was worse once i rebuilt it

ummmm im here so i can try to help some of u. sometimes my swap magic disk the cd rom version goes back to my browser or it says not a valid ps2 game or it says error. i tilt my ps2 to its side and it works perfect. TRY IT

Well, Thanks, But My Local store doesnt have any Taiyo Yuden, and if i buy online, they come in packs of 100's which is hard cause they are a tid bit expensive, Any ideas?

Thanks for the info guys, but It's in packs of 100's, I wanted it in 50's lol, cause when I ordered a pack of 100's dvd's, it came but it didnt fit in my letter (folding thing) so the postman left it out saide, and it got jacked (stolen) So I blew about £39 and some bastard is using my 100 right now lol. I can't afford to do that again lol xD. Any idea's?

when i backed up GTA3, which i think is just a straight burn, it does weird stuff when i boot wit swap magic. the lens just moves all the way to the edge. i think that it does that because its burned very close to the edge because it is 4,640,997,376 bytes. i used 16x verbs, ran out of the 8x. could the 16x be the problem?

Maybe. It took me a couple of tries to backup GTASA. It finally worked when I burned it at 2x. Try rebuilding. The 16x discs have been known to cause older PS2's some issues. Rebuild, then worry about the media.

Instructions to Gnie's Tool ExPERT From Paddymail:
Here's how to use it.. it might not work for all games though.
Open the program.
1. Select the Shrinker_ps2_psp_CdDvd5_iso.epi on the plugins drop down list.
2. Select the iso you want to rebuild.
3. Click extract LBA.
4. Click extract file and wait for it to finish.
5. Click rebuild file and wait for it to finish.
6. Click rebuild LBA.
7. Burn the new iso with Nero or DVD Decrypter as usual.

i rebuilt it with xpert, but it only plays the intro video wit the credits then it goes to a black screen. HELP

16x discs dont work use verbatim 8x or another good make and burn at 4x or 2.5x if you can

16x discs do cause the PS2 laser some problems. You could try quality 4x or 8x media. If that doesn't work, try on the other methods of rebuilding.

@jungie- thanx for going through this post and actually following it.
the problem seems to be of media. tell us the media id.
instead of burning at 1x burn at 4x. also always choose the mds file.

A.The Media ID of a DVD is the true measure of it's quality. It contains prerecorded info about the disc's manufacturer. The quality of the disc will vary depending on the media code. The media code isn't visible on the disc or the packaging. To check the media ID, Open DVD Decrypter, insert your disc, and check what it says under Media ID or Manufacturer ID.
