I'm not sure, but I downloaded them both on Thursday and installed, opened them and haven't closed either yet, and AnyDVD still says I have 21/21 days left on the trial.
I'm not sure if it'll boot me off after 21, but it seems to not know that time is passing.
so for those of you who haven't used your trial, you might be lucky if this ends up working like it appears it will.

So, you mean you've been running your PC all weekend without rebooting once? That's not good. You shouldn't leave it turned on all the time like that.
I guarantee that the next time you load up the program, you won't have 21 days anymore. lol

I'm sure I won't, and what's wrong with running the PC continuosly? I heard it was better for it this way than constantly rebooting from my IT program's department chair. Don't remember why he said that was true, but could I hear your reasoning as the other side of the question?
Now I remember, he said it was better to not have theinitiali power surge for the motherboard when starting up, and as long as the dust is cleaned out periodically, overheating will not become an issue. I'm also not worried about fans or power sources going out, as I just bought it a month ago, and the HDD is put on standby after 5 minutes of inactivity, so I really don't see a reason to turn it of unless new software installations require it.
Especially because I don't pay for the electricity at the dorms ;), which is about the same as running a 100W light bulb all day.

It's not larceny if it's their fault for coding it that way. I agreed to use the trial and I am, and I'm almost 100% certain that nowhere in the EULA for the trail did it require a shut down of the program every 24 hours.
If it wasn't like that, then I'd probably end up buying it, but now I may not have to.

@Schoeny
Your screen isn't refreshed, thats all. You haven't closed the programs, or turned off the computer, so the programs haven't updated their screens and are displaying OLD information. Kinda like looking at a picture of a clock instead of a seeing a real clock. AnyDVD probably checks the time in the background, and it probably knows exactly what time it is, and how long you have left on your free trial.
And we are in a very grey area here as this is close to suggesting a hack to a paid for program (and a very good one, well worth paying for, not stealing) and thats against forum rules. Im not a mod, and wont report you, just letting you know you are treading on thin ice here. You will find out how thin, if you keep it up, mods do look at forum posts even if someone doesn't report you.. Quote: It's not larceny if it's their fault for coding it that way.
probably true, but thats like saying i know a way around something so i can get it for free.. again, not your fault for finding it, but it can get you banned here for saying so.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2487 this would probably fall under #5..
Some ppl leave computers on all the time, and as long as you dont obstruct the air flow, it should be fine. Yes, you are using the power supply more by leaving it on, but HDs have sleep modes as do monitors. My biggest problem with leaving a pc on is some fans can be quite loud. You say you live in a dorm, so you probably cant hear the fan noise over the other noises there. :)

Good analogy with the clock!
Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

I understand the rules, and I'm not so sure it falls under #5 like you suggested as I am still 15 days under the trail maximum, and am merely suggesting a possibility of an error in their coding, not telling people where to get a pirated program or providing it myself. The company itself released this program for free download, and I'm sure you're probably right about the info being old. I am a programmer in study and realize that it's probably a display error rather than a logic error. I'm not planning on leaving the program running until I get a new computer, as interestingly, I graduate and move out a few days after the trail runs, out, so even if it did won't, it won't for me ;)
I also appreciate the warning about the rules, as I really don't want to get kicked out of here for this post. I merely raised about the program, and I have no problem if Slysoft finds this post and fixes the error. Good for them. Their product is great and I probably will buy it when I have to.
I will drop this issue if it's going to be a problem. I just thought I might post a possibility, nothing more.

@ schoeny There is one bug in your strategy tho. Everytime AnyDVD is upgrade which almost everyweek, it requires a reboot for the new upgrade to take effect. So if you will be content with this version forever, then with each new copy protection devised you'll be sitting back with a worthless AnyDVD program. Don't be too cocky. LOL

Yep, looks like garmoon found a hole in that practice. Good one there garmoon. I forgot about the rebooting, and i do it all the time. Short term memory loss?? I think my brain needs de-fragmenting again..:)
@Schoeny
I guess i shouldn't say what the mods will do as i am not one, but i have seen ppl go "inactive" after telling of similar things.. You may have found a bug, but that bug applies to the registration of a trial program, and is not a bug that causes problems for the program to work. Its really not a problem with me, and i didn't mean to come across hard or anything like that. I paid for the program, so i could care less about free ways of getting it.

I know where you're coming from, as I'm basically there. I will purchase the program later, for a few reasons:
1. I have to disconnect my comp later, so even if it did work, I wouldn't be able to use it.
2. Like garmoon said, obviously I'll want the updates
3. $40 for a program that will be updated continously for a conceivably long time is not bad at all.
@bilbo -
Where else do you propose I put it? I see these two programs mentioned all the time in the forums, but they don't have a dedicated area, and DVD Shrink was the program I saw most often compared to it.
***Nevermind, just saw the forum for other tools. I breezed over that when I saw DVD+-R media. My bad.
@garmoon -
I don't have internet in the room, so I can't update it right now anyway. lol I have to download then bring them in from the school lab (pita)
@ Maxburn -
You're probably right, I don't wanna be the guy pushing the barrier on the forums all the time, so I'll drop this as wishful thinking, nothing more ;)

@ Schoeny Don't get too down on yourself. There is a free alternative DVDFab Decrypter. It's not updated as much but it does about the same thing AnyDVD does. I don't have it. So I can't testify as to its worth.
