The hard drive in the Xbox is Locked by microsoft and can only be read by Xbox system when the Hard drive is unlocked it can be used in a PC my daughter was messing around with my modded xbox and unlocked the hard drive. Now it will not boot up it is basically useless unless I can relock the hard drive.

ive tried this with splinter cell, 007, and mechassault. for all of them it just goes to a black screen with the orange light on the xbox. Please help.

Hey man, i just did this and everything worked perfectly! Annway, I love playing on live. Can i install apps and emulators and still boot with the eject button and safely play on live?
I taped a sign to my xbox saying dont start with power button for live =P!

ok i got the files loaded onto action replay. i go into memory card and when i select the save game the only option it gives is to delete. not copy. what do i do?

ok i figured it out. i wasnt highlighting the actual save itself just the game. for those that may have run into that problem you have to go to the actual gamesave itself

Ok i will get the sid knave 4 thing and put that in the smartftp, will that replace the origonal maps that i deleted and count as the modded ones?

If your asking me than the answer is no, there is no error code, just a black screen and the orange light on the big xbox button. I just want to mod already! Is there any chance that my xbox is too old? i got it a long time ago. (near when it came out)

Hi all,
Quick question:
I have a xbox with a 80Gb HD(softmodded by a friend) and I want to upgrade the HD to 120Gb.
Is there a tutorial that shows how to do this? All the ones that I find are showing how to mod a xbox, but none show how to just upgrade the HD.
Is it complicated???

if you got the hd with xbox files on it already, i.e. bought it from a site that sells modchips and not a computer store, then it is really easy. But if you bought one from a computer store its a little more complicated.

Is there such a thing as an Evolution X boot CD; my son has killed the xbox and it only boots into Xbox live dashboard now. Any advice on how to fix it and restore the Evolution X dashboard and contents

Yeah, there is a thing called a evox boot disc, but you have to make it yourself. Im guessing that you softmodded your xbox since this thread is about softmodding. So, a evox boot disc wouldn't do you any good. If you want evox back you have to uninstall the softmod and reinstall the softmod and you should get your evox dash by doing that. If you hardmodded you xbox with a chip you can use the evox dash, here is a link to how to make one. http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/xbox_evolution_x.cfm

Thanks for all your help-read all the advice of The Return and followed azzidrain's tutorial in detail using Splinter Cell as well as countless guides and forums on other web-sites. Was ready to throw everything out Sunday after buying AR and not being able to get it working properly on 3 different computers. Decided to return it when it would not even save from the xbox directly. I can't believe that I actually got a bad AR-exchanged for a new one today which was finally recognized in XP (15 seconds-as Datel Memory device) and now, finally the silly "light" stays on for longer than 2 seconds and I could now easily move files to the AR and to the memory card. Doing a hot swap was next-have a couple of old P3's lying around and many smaller hard-drives-never opened an Xbox-but have put computers together so was not afraid to try it. Anyway-did the softmod in 15 minutes without any problems once I had a properly, working AR. My biggest problem was not even knowing how to save or copy to the hard-Xbox HD by using the controller. Got hooked after my 5 year grandson taught me how to use his Xbox-but he didn't tell me what a bloody D-pad was-anyway, I bought my own used Xbox-always wanted to learn Linux anyway and my wife would kill me if she knew I bought an Xbox-a new computer is different. Tomorrow I'll attach a keyboard and mouse and show her my new computer. I had initially made my own USB to Xbox connector with a used controller and USB cable connected to a 32mb USB micro drive (linux compatibility list). The Xbox found it okay but then kept erasing it-now I think it was just my stupidity in not knowing the Xbox control functions-it seems to be functioning properly and reads several memory sticks. Maybe I can help other newbie's get their xboxes working with linux?
Now I intend to connect the xbox to another computer and then install a 200gb hard-drive which should not be as difficult as the initial soft mod.

Someone told me that the booting to a black screen means that your action replay memory card corrupted the save. supposively i should get a microsoft one for it to work better. So if you wondered why that happens, there you go.

i did ever thing that it siad to do but there is no UnleashX dash. it said something about xbox live update and has the xbox dash still and plays backups. any clue?
