Many of us have used it. It is, of course, talked about in many threads. I am sure you just have to look around to see how well thought of this program is.

Do just that. Look around. You will be suprised what you find. Most of the time, you will find the answer to your question.

See ya round the shop.

I've tried it and its not that great. I believe it says on their site that it is more of a final effort to rip than it is a high-quality ripper. So yeah if you can use like DVDFab Decrypter and if all else fails then give AnyDVD ripper a try.

I don't believe I have seen anything about lesser "quality" for AnyDVD Ripper.....

I tryed the ripper on AnyDVD and it was perfect....I also wanted to find out if it was any good....But I would use DVDFAB first and my old mate,DVD Decrypter, because they have always worked for me in the past.

I think that using the term "ripper" regarding AnyDVD is incorrect. What it actually does is make any DVD "unencryted" so can either use Shrink or some other program to rip/burn a disc. Personally I like to use DVD Decrypter in file mode to my HD, using AnyDVD in background, and then "shrink" using either Shrink or CloneDVD2. Sometimes run through vobBlanker to clean out unwanted junk and warnings. Of course I like to play with different ways and at times leave AnyDVD off and try the alkohol method with Fab and vobBlanker. It is possible to use all free progs and not buy AnyDVD or CloneDVD2 but when push comes to shove still glad I spent the money and have never been disappointed.

AnyDVD doesn't have anything to do with quality. That would be based on the process you use to "shrink" and burn your backups. I won't get into the media issue. If you use dual layer discs may also have enhanced quality although I think they are still too pricy. Any time you "shrink" a DVD you are taking something away so this may be what you are refering to when you talk about quality. So far have enjoyed my backups on 4.7 discs and viewing them on a friend's 52" plasma HD TV without any decernable quality loss.
Good luck and happy burning with whatever method you find to your liking!

@rn73,
Since the version below, AnyDVD has contained a RIPPER, please read.

5.9.1.1, 2006 02 15
- Important: When installing this version over an existing
installation, you must reboot your machine. Otherwise the changes
made in the AnyDVD device driver will not have any effect!
- New: Added workaround for DVDShrink / Nero Recode "Out of memory"
error when copying Macrovision RipGuard protected discs with
menus, e.g. "Madagascar" R1 (US)
- New: Error zones on RipGuard/Arccos/PuppetLock protected titles are
now replaced with "valid material". 3rd party tools like DVDDecrypter
will now work better (no more "Pack Header Error" messages - another try,
this time it should really work).
- Note: To use DVDDecrypter with AnyDVD set I/O Model to SPTI or ElbyCDIO.
Set CSS Cracking method to none. Disable checking for structure
protection.
- New: Added "AnyDVD Ripper". This little tool repairs defective DVDs
while copying them to your harddisk. It can be started from the menu of
the AnyDVD fox icon. It can be started as a stand alone application from
the start menu as well, so it can be used even if AnyDVD is not registered
and the trial period has expired.
It is identical to FixVTS (http://www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS/) but instead
of fixing problems "in place" it copies the files to your harddisk directly
from the source DVD. It fixes the problems while the files are copied.
Some DVDs which have severe mastering defects e.g.,
"Menace II Society" R1 (US) can now be copied with all DVD copy tools
(elby CloneDVD, DVDShrink, etc.) Many thanks to the author of FixVTS!
- Fix: Hang after update check with some system configurations
- Some minor fixes and improvements
- Updated languages

Gentleman I would appreciate it if you would please take note of the tone of my post. You will note that it was not mean spirited or disingenuous. If my interpretation of what a "ripper" is does not meet your understanding or if you have a different opinion then I respect that. I do not feel that a personal attack or disparaging remarks about my nighttime sleeping habits are appropriate to what happens here at AD. For the most part I have had differences of opinion with others on other forum topics where we had an intelligent and cordial dialogue and I'm sure we all learned something new from it. I appreciate bilbo65 noting a reference to the ripper in the new AnyDVD. I have used his/her guides when I started backing up DVDs and appreciate the effort that went into this. Possibly my confusion arises out of a difference of understanding as to what is a ripper. DVD FAb, DVD Decrypter and other progs take the info from the DVD, remove the offending protections etc. and produce an end result of a file, ISO or whatever that then allows you to then burn to a DVD. AnyDVD makes the DVD free of encryptions but does not result in any end product. It requires that another prog be used to create a file, ISO from which a DVD may be burned.
To Ray Henry I would say that disparaging remarks about one person reflects more on the integrity of the person making the remarks than the person to whom the remarks are addressed.

If you would check out AnyDVD Ripper you would find that you have a source file and a destination file (on your hard drive) so it does produce a product that you can burn to a DVD.

Until this small addition, AnyDVD ran only in the background effectively removing protection and region codes leaving the ripping to other programs (which is still the primarly purpose).

Please check it out before dismissing what has been said.....

rn73 I forgive you for the cheap shot,You did come on strong, using $20 words when most of us use $5 and $10 words..It still seens, even after reading "Bilbo65" posting...That you can't see that AnyDVD Ripper would give you a source file and a destination file (on your hard drive) so it does produce a product that you can burn to a DVD. To sum up....Iam sorry if I got you upset, lets leave it at that..ok.Shalom.

rn73 seems to be crawfishing. He hadn't realized that AnyDVD comes with a ripper now and is trying to redefine the term "ripper". He made a simple mistake and doesn't want to own up. Hell I didn't know it had a ripper for a week.
