Whenever two progs balk at back up, stop and check the disc. Don't feel stupid we've all been thru that one.

I get the best results using AnyDVD & 1ClkickDVD together. Haven't found a backup copy I can't make.

I used dvdshrink the first time because I just didnt know better. I didnt compress it though. I just used it to encode and burn the movie. I used Andvd and Clonedvd2 last night. I was buring King Kong, not Narnia. It makes no sense. I rip the movie to my HD. I play the movie from my HD, and the quality is perfect. I burn those same files onto my dual layer disk, and the quality is not the same. I dont know what is goin on.

You're right on with the AnyDVD. There's better to be had than 1Click, though it is easy to use. I didn't find it worth keeping on the system with the likes of CloneDVD 2, DVDCopy 4, Shrink, DVD2One, Recode 2, DVDFab Platinum, DVDneXtCopy, DVDXCopy, and Rebuilder with CCE. (I left some software unmentioned, I say more and I get accused of bragging.).

Strange business. I use DVD Shrink with DVD Decrypter/ImgBurn to burn FixVTS processed files and the resulting video output from DL is excellent. Normally though, due to cost, I use RB/CCE to do backups on DVD5. As I said before, I doubt it being the software. I'm watching on a 60" screen where I can easily spot flaws.

If you are using clone, click CloneDVD on first page, then next, bottom of screen you will dvd, default is 5, change it to 8.5 or 9, whayever comes up, and proceed as usual. bar at bottom should stay at 100%, meaning you have a 1:1 copy ratio - cant get any better than that =)) It normally removes layer break, but I never tried dl disc so I can't say for certain if it will. I see it took awhile but brobear finally figured it out KUDO'S to BROBEAR, when using dl discs you need to tell the prgm, so you get the 1:1 ratio; that is the max. BTW, after you got the 1:1 - did you notice much difference, that is to say is it worth the extra bucks to put out for the dl disc?? I burned that fick at 71% and thought it was hard to tell from the original.

Praises graciously accepted, but I already knew about processing files for both DVD5 and DL. We started out with decryption software and have moved on to DL recording software. I wasn't putting in guides on how to use DL software. I received a PM asking how the method I mentioned worked. From that, I thought I had best qualify my earlier post to Socrates9, so he wouldn't make a mistake if unfamiliar with Shrink. I've had Shrink 3.2 longer than most. In fact I was allowed to try some of the beta versions when it was in testing prior to public release. I don't use Shrink for transcoding much nowadays, but I still find it handy for the utilities included.

Felt kind of stupid, forgetting about the selection for the large capacity discs, as I've never used one. Such a simple solution ........too bad they're not all that easy, shame the gentleman wasted discs. Still not convinced they are worth the extra cash tho, as 70% aint a bad copy. Most cases can't tell which is original if you put them in and ask someone to watch them and tell them apart.

A trained eye will pick up more. Background flaws, blurrs in action sequences and mosquito noise are common traits of compression errors with transcoders. Below 80% most go to encoders if they have them. If you get a chance, try out the Rebuilder I mentioned. Takes a bit more time, but the quality is worth it, especially with the blockbuster length releases. As for DL I relegate those to special projects. DVD5s are more cost effective.

The Region 1 release of King Kong has almost no copyright protection besides the basic CSS encryption.

AD has a rebuilder forum where help can be had for the occasional problem. With the installer, it shouldn't be much more trouble than installing something like Nero. Here's the longest running thread on Rebuilder and the author of the app shows up on occasion. Many of the guys that beta tested the earlier versions are there. They're just waiting to help.

I just did Narnia and it went right through. Just have Any DVD and Shrink and Clone. Narina and King Kong no problems at all.

Ok, I have no idea what is going on here. Other than the snotty tone I've received so far I appreciate the help. I have followed all of your instructions, and tried everything you have said. I still can not get past 49%. Maybe someone should read my earlier posts and really try to make a serious effort to help me. The only thing I can think of is that I'm having some sort of software conflict. Any ideas?

All you ever need is the latest from DVDFAB Decrypter (one of the greatest FREE ripper at the moment) to rip the movie (new released) into your hard drive (it takes 12 - 15 minutes to rip) and then once it's completed, open up VobBlanker (one of the strongest craps/junks processing free tool) and do the following:
(1) INPUT = browse to hard drive and load the VIDEO_TS.IFO that DVDFAB Decrypter ripped earlier
(2) OUTPUT = make a new VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive aka Narnia Blanker or King Kong Blanker
(3) click "PROC.ALL" at the right
(4) click PROCESS at the bottom
Now sit tight and VobBlanker should be done within 5 minutes. Once VobBlanker is completed, choose any of your desire transcoders or encoders and the rest is history

Since you tried a lot of different programs and the thing stops at 49%, did it ever dawn on you to check the disc for smudges or scratches about 50% out to the edge.? If this is the only movie you're having problem with it's probably the disc. it could be a bad press. Can you burn other movies?If you can burn others, then it's got to be the disc.
Edit: For me,this disc copied with AnyDVD>Shrink>Nero burn

Same results as ripping with DVD Decrypter and processing with FixVTS. That's probably not the problem though, if you've correctly followed the previous instructions. Narnia has no difficult encryption. AnyDVD and DVDFab Decrypter bypass the copyright protection. If any compliance errors show up, VobBlanker or FixVTS process to correct those errors. The AnyDVD ripper will solve compliance errors. Even the obsolete DVD Decrypter rips Narnia. With it, if a compliance error shows, you do as with the rest, process with FixVTS or VobBlanker. Since your copy is stopping at the same spot each time, I'd suggest doing a read scan of your source disc to see if you find bad sectors that correspond to about half way through the disc. If you don't have the software, use the free DVDInfoPro.

Just did narina. used dvdfab decrypter & dvdshrink. i have to say this i s the best backup i have ever done........no hassles at all still have it on my HD might just make a second copy if anyone wants one. did KONG last weekend the same way. perfect copy

Oddly enough I did finally make a copy. But not of the dvd I've been trying to copy. I bought the 2 disc collector's edition. As many of you know, I've yet to be able to copy that disc. However, I borrowed another copy of the move from my friend. It's the regular version, Full frame. I copied it with no problems. I appreciate everyone's help. I had checked the disc long ago for fingerprints etc. Still not sure what's wrong. Has anyone successfully copied the special edition??

Do as I suggested with a read scan and check for bad sectors. Discs will play that will not record. This is a known problem, luckily it doesn't happen too often. I've had 2 copies of the extended version of "Dune" to have a bad press. The theatrical version on the flip side (flipper) is okay. I've seen it on a couple of other releases as well. I can run rescue software and save all but the bad sectors, but that process is time consuming and leaves a short jump in the output.

Roxio DVD Copy 1&2 ??
Roxio does not play well with other programs. Just like children. But Roxio has a history of causing problems with other burning programs if they are installed on the same computer. Too many conflicts.
Roxio has been considered an inferior program by many. The only reason it persists is because it comes bundled with some optical drives and gets loaded on the HD. Even some features of Nero share the same fame.
Don't put too many programs on your computer. If you get a winning combination for your computer and it is working great, resist the temptation to tweak or improve it. Be cautious and ready to back track.

Did both kong and narnia with dvdxcopy, still use 2 disc's, dont compress especially with movies this long, and didnt need to use mu AnyDVD for the both, dvdxcopy took care of them on its own, wow I've een on a roll this week. not bragging, just happy for myself, many times things dont work this smoothly.
