I've been running AnyDVD in the background with DVD Shrink for about a week and everything has been running smoothly...until today. Suddenly, AnyDVD produces an error message everytime I stick a DVD in. It states the media is dirty or broken or my firmware isn't connect correctly. These errors occured at the same time that Nero began have communication error and refused to burn for me. (DVD Decrytper won't burn the ISO file either reporting an unable to write parameters error). Does anyone know what's going on?? The computer has never been connected to the internet, so I know it's not a virus. Thank You!!!

Is your error happening when burning? The programs are are telling you the same thing - your drive probably doesn't like the media your using. Which blanks are you using?
To check for a firmware update (internet connection needed) in DVD Decrypter go to tools>drive>check for firmware up date. It will then give a popup giving you your latest version - click ok and it will take you here -usually to your drive:

I have the newest version (I use a removeable disk to transfer the info from a computer with internet to the other one). It's occurred on the following movies (and Shrink won't work because of the copy right error): Back to the Future III, The Other Sister, The Weatherman, Elisabethtown, Shanghai Knights, and Into the Blue. The ISO file Nero burning Rom is refusing to burn is Back to the Future II.
I'm having two problems (sorry I wasn't totally clean). The first is AnyDVD won't recognize any of the DVDs I place in the computer. I attempted to just run Shrink but I'm faced with copy right errors (secrets) even on DVDs that previously were encoded by Shrink without AnyDVD in the background. The second is the ISO files I have on the computer won't burn with Decrypter or Nero despite the fact these programs would work eariler today with the same media.
@amyh
So your have ripping/encoding problems now and then burning problems?
Something must of changed. Here's some suggestions:
Is the drive still securely connected? Make sure the cables aren't loose.
Are you still in dma mode? Here's a guide if needed:
http://my.afterdawn.com/alkohol/blog_entry.cfm/231/dmaissues Clean off the discs your are trying to back up.
What is the exact error shrink gives you on the dvd's you've used it on before? CRC error maybe?
What brand of discs are you using? Is your firmware up to date?
DMAs are all enabled, and the firmware I updated last week. The media I'm using is Memerox 16x which was working wonderfully until about an hour ago. Mysteriously, AnyDVD is now working...it's recognising the previously unrecognizable DVDs (I didn't change anything on the computer), so Shrink is again working fine (the previous error was that the maximum number of secrets allowed was surpassed). I'm still having difficulties with Nero burning the ISO files on the computer. I'm at present encoding another movie into an ISO and will try this one with Nero incase the other ISO file was corrupted for whatever reason. If the new movie doesn't work, I'll post the Nero Log for everyone to see. Thank you very much for your time!!
Well Memerox is not the best to use. They use a few good manufacturers - most though are pretty bad. My experince with memerox was some would burn - some won't. Now the ones that did burn eventually degraded and became worthless.
Try using Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim - for Taiyo instore look for made in Japan Fuji or Sony. Made in Japan Maxells are good too.
One error I have never seen in shrink is 'the maximum number of secrets allowed was surpassed'
That's a new one :)
Definitely post the Nero log if you get a another burn failure.
