I am using the trial versions and have 10 days left to try to get this to work. I am ripping with AnyDVD, then using Clone DVD 2 and it goes through the steps but when I go to write the files I keep getting the insert recordable media. I have tried DVD-R, DVD+RW, and recently bought the Sony DVD+R and the Maxell DVD+ R after reading the recommendations but it is still giving the same response. All of my dvd's that I already had have worked on other applications, so does anyone know what could be wrong? I have also tried several different movies. My dvd writer is HP DVD writer 740B and I also did a firmware update to try. Any suggestions?

Have you tried a different burning program? I would suggest trying to use ImgBurn instead of CloneDVD2 and see if this works.

In Output Method do you have DVD Writer selected and the 740 drive? Out of curiosity, what is the version of your firmware? While in Output I suggest setting the speed between 4-8X. I burn at 6X for most of my backups. I've been using Sony 8X +R with an HP 740i(B) with excellent results and the firmware version with those made no difference. The latest firmware I know of is HJ24.

I havent tried a different burning program, this is the only one I have.
I do have that latest firmware HJ24 and I have tried maximum, 4x & 8x but not the 6x(I dont think) but I will try it. Thanks for your help.

The 6X would make no difference, that's only a preference for my system. If you have everything I mentioned selected in Output, then CloneDVD 2 isn't recognizing the burner drive properly or the drive isn't recognizing the media (which it should). Check the optical drive in Device Manager and see if there is a problem. Then try using another brand of media, such as Verbatim 8X +R. It's top notch, use the ones with AZO or marked made in Japan if possible. DataLife Plus is the better line. If it did happen to be media, I'm surprise the Sony didn't cure the problem. I've had excellent luck with the 8X +R.

I misplaced the link to the HJ24 firmware update. Would you supply a link to that for me. Other HP owners might appreciate it as well. It will save a bunch of googling.
I just remembered, InterVideo has a full function trial of their transcoding app, DVDCopy 4. Download that and see if you get the same problem. http://www.InterVideo.com/

-> Output Method
Select DVD Writer (For output to DVD burner)
Select the DVD Burner to be used (if only one, no need)
Is the 740B being recognized in the DVD Writer box in Output Method (as in the box in the image below)?
Other than that, if the sytem is working properly, what is there except putting a good recordable disc in the burner and having it recognized?

Thanks for your help. I have tried it all and read & reread the guides and my image looks the same as the one you posted. After an hour on the phone with HP tech support, they are sending me a new DVD burner. Hopefully this will solve my problems. This is the link to the hp update.

Good luck and thanks for the link. Where did you get that anyway? I originally had a website page with the download link (which I can't seem to locate again), yours is the direct download of the firmware from an ftp site.

hp.com is where I started and kept doing searches for my dvd writer and updates until I found this. My new dvd writer should be here tomorrow so hopefully I can try it out before my trial expires!

Just wanted to post, my new burner came today from hp and it works! I am so glad that was the problem(no charge due to warranty), I did exactly as I had been doing and it worked the first time. Thanks again for your help. These things make me crazy until I get them figured out!
