Yes.... you have to put in SM DVD is what I use.... make sure USB drive is turned on and boot it up...If its successful it finds the SWAPMAGIC.ELF on the USB drive and will start it up.

Earlier in a post you said you have SM 3.8 Coder..... so I am jsut wondering if you have the CD version only then and if yes did you try using it to see if it will work....

I have both CD and DVD version of SM 3.8 coder but I only use the DVD version... I havent tried it with the CD version.

Ok I just tried it with my CD Disk of SM 3.8 and it booted up fine to Usbadvanced on the USB drive.

Ok I was also going to ask if your PS2 slim is modded in any way or are you just using Magic keys 2 to run back ups.

Ok well then if you want SM 3.8 you will need the magic keys II also as shown here:

Then at least with it you can also play your back up games.

Also some good tips on Magic Keys II: Some good manuals amd reads in these posts for you if you want.
This site has a great search also and will help you out on most topics you type in.

I am very glad to hear that. I know I felt bad about you having to try different USB drives and then same problem as before, and you have a PS2 V15 Slim.
So I am glad its all worked out for you.

I have yet to get past the black screen after choosing a program to load. The only game Eragon gets to a spinning logo and stops there. Using SwapMagic 3.6, USB advanced renamed SWAPMAGIC.ELF in the SWAPMAGIC directory. My Drive 500 GB Seagate USB external Fat32 is recognized by my v13 slimline which is not chipped. The games I have tried are IOPRPxxx.img. Jaydium site says the games should work, but I'm getting black screen. The drive does get accessed for about 7 seconds before stopping. My next stop it to try ans swap out a different IPPRPxxx.img file and see if that fixes the problem, but I need to do some more reading to do it properly.

Cheers

Yes this should be Stickyed as its helped lots of peeps.

and yes it takes some time to figure which games need a DNAS swap or IOPRP swap.
I have had to change both on some games and sometimes just the DNAS.

Basically its just finding the DNAS image and changing it with one from a working game and renaming it to DNAS280 or whatever it was called and then rebuilding the game.
I have the tools(IOPRP images) and tutorial included with my Global WAr edition on my rapidshare folder which should be a link posted above in one of the posts.
Or you can follow Bryce's Tutorial here and find IOPRP off of working games.

hello.

I currently bought a new ps2 v15 satin silver. the unit is already modified when I bought it, so it can already play all dvd regions. I am planning to try using a hard drive to run ps2 . Is it ok to use 2.5hdd? or a 3.5hdd? or it doesn't matter? I would just put it on an external enclosure. What other softwares should I get? What other things do I need? Could you guys give me a step by step instruction on what I need to do first? tnx

You would need a 3.5 USB drive and if you read the first page of posts the steps are there.

And also wangle posted here what worked for him and his V15, but some others have gotten it to work the other way.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/14/348187#2912096
Then if you require more help please ask.

yup. i did read the first page. but since it didn't include that it works for v15, so i thought the v15 might use other softwares. i also read wangle's post. I might try that as well. tnx.

No problem.... I am not sure what is different on a V15... I have a V14 Slim and do it exactly the same way as on page 1 and it works fine for me with a Samsung 250GB Ac powered USB drive.

The main to remember is the drive you choose must be USB backwards compatible with USB 1.1

And remember to try a game that is compatible and will work so you know its working.
