I recently uninstalled AnyDVD from my computer and after the restart suddenly I cannot read or write DVDs with my burner anymore. I tried reinstalling the drivers, cleaning the registry, updating the firmware, even reinstalling AnyDVD and other software like DVDshrink and DVDdecryptor and I still can't read DVDs.
I can read and write CDs but I can't read any DVDs. it keep saying "No disc inserted" and I've tried all the DVDs that I have. My burner is a Gigabyte GO-W0404A.
You may have done some of these already, I just listed a few things.
I am assuming Windows XP, If so, try a system restore. I don't know if you have a restore point you can use.
Go into device manager and check the IDE/ATAPI Secondary IDE Channel Driver. You can uninstall it and then reboot. Windows should reinstall the driver.
You could try unplugging the drive, both the IDE cable and power lead. Start the computer and then shut down. Reconnect the leads and start again. See if the device is reinstalled correctly.

You could download Nero's InfoTool, run it and post the results. That will give us an idea of what your system setup looks like. You don't need to have Nero installed for this and it's free.

what program are you using to watch your disks? sometimes you have to make sure that the media types is checked off in the settings. If you're using real player go to TOOLS~PREFERANCES~CONTENT~MEDIA TYPES~ then hit manually configure media types and sellect all! It's worth a try!
next, I would do a reinstall of the codecs and see if that helps:
this is worth a try to help fix what happened with your uninstall! What I think happened is you uninstalled some common files that are used with your programs that view DVDs. you can try what Fasfrank recommends and if that doesn't help then try what I suggest. good luck!
also...... you can even try to reinstall windows media player, real player and other viewing programs and see if that fixes the problem.
