Try uninstalling the drive and letting WinXP do an auto-reinstall:

Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
Click the Hardware tab.
Click the Device Manager button.
Expand (by clicking the "+" symbol) DVD/CD-ROM drives
Right click on the name of the drive and select Uninstall.

Restart the system.

If the above doesn't work, try picking an OS restore point back when the drive worked.

Is it just continuously loading the disc or is there an error message appearing?

@9932sens

I doubt it's AnyDVD causing the problem. DVD43 has a history of taking over computers and creating messes, so I don't think I'd go there. DVD Region Free is OK. It is possible to backup DVDs with all free software: DVDFab Decrypter, FixVTS, DVD Shrink, and DVD Decrypter. There's even a new free program that integrates and automates the process. The program is ripit4me.

ripit4me: http://www.digital-digest.com/software/RipIt4Me_links.html#downloads

Arniebear has already create a guide for using it:

Why don't you post your problems in a new thread and people will help you figure things out.

If you use FixVTS, you usually don't need to use vobblanker. FixVTS is what AnyDVD and ripit4me use instead of vobblanker to remove dead cells. Vobblanker is a much more powerful program than FixVTS however. If all you're trying to do is clean up garbage cells and fix DVD navigation, FixVTS will suffice. If you want to blank out parts of a DVD in addition to taking out the leftover trash, vobblanker is the ticket.

I had a similar problem with AnyDVD. Some clown that works with my wife installed it on my PC and then one day, mysteriously, my PC told me that it did not even acknowledge that my CD/DVD drive even existed and that there was some problem with AnyDVD. I cannot even open the disk drive because the computer does not think it has a CD/DVD drive anymore. Any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated.

Try using Device manager to uninstall the drive and then restart the system. The drive should be automatically reinstalled by Windows.

Go back to a restore point when the drive still worked. If there has been a change in the underlying OS since causing the problem, the drive should then work.

Take the drive out and install it in another computer. If it still doesn't work, the drive is likely DOA.

If the drive works in another computer, reformat your HDD and reinstall the OS.
