i figured this is the mad at Ms room because of all the bad hardware things going on and rightfully so im gonna post a rumor/story on gamepro .com that is sure to piss early 360 owners off.It says that they will be selling the xbox 360 premium system with the HD-DVD add-on for under $399.99 i personally think its bogus seeing how its not MS saying it,its just one of their manufacuters/component making companies but hey you never know.I understand the potential price drop but to have the HD-DVD add on as well is BS what about exisiting 360 owners who want to get an HD-DVD add, they end up sending more than the new ones. ne ways think the story is bogus seeing how the HD-DVD add on doesnt even have a price but figured id put the info for everyone to read and judge.

sorry to bump an old thread, but i just had this happen to me. my 360 is from the second shipment, and i have put alot of playtime on it. today i bought the xbox vga adapter and played for about 2 mins before my system froze. i switched back to my tv and restarted it. it didn't boot up immediately. i waited a few more minutes and it started fine, i played dead rising for about a minute. it locked up, made the static noise and the checkereed lines. is it too late to prevent any permanent damage?

Well; I've been lucky enough to have a system since launch. That's over one year now. I've not had to return it, and I've not experienced issues other than a few DVD playback problems, but really they were scratched discs anyways. (Stupid Blockbuster rentals)

I'm getting ready to modify the FW on my ODD, so I'm hoping to get much more use out of it. I'm certainly not worried about having to replace an ODD in the future, it's honestly not scary to me in the least.

I hope not to have an issue, but I would like to point something out. Another user mentioned that he/she feels that the satisfied users far outweigh the number of unsatisfied ones, because they don't generally spam these forums like crazy. And I beleive that is true. I worked one of the busiest gamestops in the san diego area between October 05 and March 06. I heard a lot of customers come in rambling about all the problems, over and over. But in reality, we saw one true DOA unit in our store, out of over 200 given by December 31st. Most of the employees had pre-orders, and none of them (myself included) had problems with their units. My point isn't to say there aren't a number of faulty units, there are. My point is to say that there is a large percentage of units that aren't faulty, and that it's not as bad as many people make it sound. It sucks getting a unit for that much money, and having it break and going through all this. I've been in a frustratingly similar situation with Best Buy, who was unwilling to honor their own extended warranty on a $1300 laptop not six months after purchase. It took a lot of restraint to keep myself from doing unspeakable things to them. And it was never resolved. I feel a lot of pity for the customers going through this, and I'm dissapointed in M$ for attempting to 'fix' the units and re-send them to other customers. That's bad business.

In seriousness, I hope that they do get sued over it. I would love to see that happen. I like the product a lot, but if this is what they're doing to their customers, then it seems that a class action suit may be necessary to sort of get them back in line, on the customer service end(The billing dept for their live service is terrible too.)

Sometimes big corporations have to undergo something like that in order to improve the way they do business, it gets a lot of corporate attention, and makes policies change quickly. But ultimately, the consumers win, because it finally makes the company re-think and improve.

I've heard rumors of something to this nature about a warranty extension for first and/or second gen 360's I can't recall where. But it may be worth looking into. Either way, I feel bad for all the users with broken units, because they're really getting the bum end of a great thing. And I can't blame them for being bitter, I just hope their situation improves.

goto walmart, purchase a new xbox, take the serial # off your old xbox. take your new xbox out of the box and replace it with the old broken xbox and bring it back to Walmart!

Revenge is sweet!

Cheers!

Modster has a great idea, most these stores can't tell the difference anyways, nor do the employees truly care. It's worth a shot on teh Wal Mart trick.

my xbox finally stopped responding. i went to walmart and they said they can't even exchange without a reciept. i called MS and it is out of warranty. it was made on 11-21-05 so i thought it would be considered one of the first batches. i am pissed. not so much that i have to pay 140 bucks, but more for the down time.

Did you mention to Microsoft that it was made in 2005? I heard they were replacing all 2005 model consoles.

i talked to 2 different reps. the 1st one made it sound like it would be replaced under warranty, the 2nd was the one i actually made the claim with and she said that it wasn't covered. i should probably call and talk to a supervisor.

For all of you having the customer service problem; I have a pretty good solution, threaten them with lawsuit.

This happened to me with Toshiba with my laptop. I sent my laptop in for warranty service, and they keep delaying it. After first two weeks past by, I was pissed, and I phoned the Customer Service and told them "the next time you will not be talking to me, but you will talk to my lawyer," and guess what I got the laptop next morning.

Best Advice "talk to my lawyer"

stop hoping, start loving.

I remember I accidentally flicked the Av cord over to HD one day and the 360 wouldn't show anything on my TV because it was just a standard TV lol. I rang M$ and told them it wasn't working and they said they'd take care of it and to take it back to the store I bought it from in half an hour.

When I got there the person at the front desk of the store was waiting for me. They took the 360 and tried to give me a PS2 at first, the idiots.

I've got a fan in my room, is it a good idea to have it blowing on the 360? and if so, which way should it be positioned? Blowing into the back, the sides, or the front? I'm thinking the back would be a bad idea because it would just be blowing the hot air back into the console, right?

Any advice on which way I should position it?

I have it vertical and it's less hot, not cold, less hot.

My system is from August 2006. Is it true that systems around that date and later do a better work concerning temperatures?

I still haven't got a problem, but I had it just for a month now, and I'm well, kinda scared to use it like I should.

What cooling system do you guys recommend, cause I heard Nyko inter cooler kills 360's.

i want to freaking scream...this one won't read any discs.

it either says unplayable disc or goes back to open tray. the dvd drive makes a clicking noise and never spins up.

Indeed he does, and to that guy who recommended putting the 360 on its side and it will make it cooler, how would that make a difference?

standing vertical, the 360 can scratch the discs- even if you're not moving it about; and wouldn't it just be blocking one of the main vents on the sides?
