seriously, with the heading on this thread did you ever have a doubt?
reminds me when i went to the patent office to register an invention and the person took my info and asked what i had invented. i told her a folding bottle, called a "fottle", and a folding carton, called a "farton", she didn't like the last one, so i left without telleing her about my folding bucket.
just to lighten the mood, does seem as though the lady does have a dead burner. As rbrock suggests, put the info on a 3.5 and try another burner, (friends).

Sure burners have a life expentancy but hell if they had 300 as the magic number or even close I'd be buying one every few months.
Better to rule out eveything before buying a new burner- imho. If a cable's bad a new burner alone won't fix that.
It also won't fix the windows error.
At this point besides swapping the drive in a another pc to check - the last thing is replace the drive.
@maskeeta
Do you have the original windows xp install cd? Looks like you need replace the bad file.

Your system seems to be clean. The only thing that could be removed is this:
*R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
However, that is not necessary because it is not the cause of the problems. Do you have another computer to try the burner on? I would hate to suggest going and getting a new one. If there is another computer you could try it in I would do that first. If the burner works in the other computer, then we need to do a system restore. I was hoping the HjT log would give me a little more info in your system.
I have had another friend look at this thread, and was told that I have exhausted all avenues. It seems that you have the latest firmware for your burner so there is no reason for it not to work. And to top it all off I am going with Nero63 advice. I hate to do that on a burner that has only burned 300 times. I would go insane if I had to replace my burner that often. The good news is that if you replace the burner with a nice burner you will receive a new version of Nero. Of course read the box first because you do not need that Easy CD/DVD Creator crap again.
Good luck and let us know what happens. I really can be of no further assistance to you with the exception of cleaning your registry.

All is good! I just try to find the root of the problem before I suggest to someone that buying a new burner will solve everything. In many cases it will, however, there are times when the burner is not the problem and it has to do with power supply, heat, dust in the system, bad cables, firmware, proper drivers, use of memory, the list is endless.
I am only trying to say that binkie7 is great at the firmware updates, and I am good at reading the hardware issue. Most of the time between the two of us we are able to fix the problem.
So all is good between us, just remember that I exhaust myself on other possible issues.
Peace!

if you have kept proper hardware/software maintenance, I would definetly try the swap to another computer, or if you want to buy a back-up burner, definately go with DL withas many switches +/-, r/rw, etc. as possible to reduce media problems.
@ syxguns & blinkie7
have been following you through this thread and admired your thouroghness, but just seems to have come to a stalemate, admireable.

No problems - just hate to tell someone replace this & all will be solved. It can be difficult when troubleshooting thru the web sometimes.
@maskeeta
On one of these pages I put some recommends for drives in order of price. BenQ, LiteOn, Plextor. (Depends on how much you want to spend - $35 - 100) As the other said most are dual layer now & support both formats. The recommends above also support booktyping and scans.
Check out http://newegg.com. If we know your price range we can probably recommend a good model too.

with all the installing/uninstalling thats been going on, the registry in windows can become unstable to the point where you're just running in circles. can you burn onto cdr's at all? if so, i would back up important info (doc's, emails, serial numbers and whatnot) and re-format the system. Sometime starting from scratch can be a good thing. Make sure all the latest drivers are loaded and all firware is up to date. You're system will be"factory fresh" and ready to go. That's just my opinion. I hope you get things working soon!

if you have 2 HD's in your system, then just shuffle all your info to the drive that ISNT the primary (c:\) drive. It will be safe from the reformatting...or you just move the data and dis connect the other drive while you format if you're worried about losing the info, then re chain the drives when youre done and viola! all your info is right there on the other hd...ask a friend for some help if you know any with good PC savvy! (not to say that have none!) ;)

I think pretty much everything is ruled out. (besides trying the drive in another pc that have one that works) The last thing left is the drive.
The reformatting - well I don't know what condition the os is in or how much you have keep up on regular maintenance.
Might not be a bad idea to do anyhow at some point but I doubt it will fix this issue. Reformatting doesn't solve all problems.
Since you are unfimilar with it then better to have someone to do it who is - that you trust.
If you decide too - yes you would need to back up anything you need. Most will come with a key or serial # that is most important to keep. Almost all programs can be redownloaded from the web.
Keep us posted!
Any more questions/help too - that's why we're here :)

I agree take that drive out of your PC take 50.00 bucks buy a new drive install it if you can burn then that is a cheap fix if you still can't burn it's your OS now you own to good burners use both in your PC if you take it in to a PC shop they will charge a lot more than that. It looks like everyone has done everything that they can think of Please do something and post back, I have a gut feeling your drive is bad. If you have tried all the things that was posted i'm sure of it.
