get a 1.5 and use iso's, then you wont have that problem
Looking over this thread...it seems there are alot of peoples that are having problems with this...maybe someone should post a guide on how to fix it and hopefully it gets stickied.

I have a broken PSP here also. :( When I Insert a UMD it clicks and don't load nothing and will freeze my screen till I take out the UMD then the main PSP menu will load. It is a JAP version PSP1000 less then 1 year old and I either want to sell it or find a fix to repair it.

Hi all,
Well i have tried everywhere and seems you guys are the experts on psp`s. I have been trying to get the lads psp working, everytime you put a umd in be it a game or film it states disc could not be read ? its not the same as the other posts as there is no noise coming from it and it has not been dropped - its on the 2.81 update and the lad says it has been like this since a reboot, i no genious on these things but if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys

STUCKonIT. Email me if ya can. jkb@lumasis.com
I cant read umds either. I have tried the pen trick. The picture looks like my PSP... I am not sure what else to do. Now after the last push with my pen- On startup I received "cannot read disk" error for the first time...
Thanks

hm...im not sure if this was suggested or if this will even work...
but why do u need umd drive? u said 1.51 and up needs a umd for devhook....why don't u downgrade to 1.5 and then use oe-b... it runs straihgt off mem stick i think
unless ur fw is higher than 2.71...
Own... PSP FW: 2.6

you need a UMD to emulate ISOs via devhook.

My firmware is higher.... So that is not really an option. This is for my 8 year old anyway- doing devhook right now to play a game is more than I bargained for.... Anyway-
Still trying.
