the Sony/Disney DVDs already cause playback problems with some standalone DVD players. which drives a wedge between the customer and Sony with the useless protection on the newer DVDs .and they wonder why DVD sales are down lol

CinemaNow is a dl service, pay, for movies that allows you to burn 1 DVD copy of your dl. Kind of pricey if you ask me though, but it is legal.

They have some old titles for 4.99, but the newer are running 9.99 and up. Personally, I could order it on payper view and just record with a recorder cheaper. You can buy the movie for almost the same price and back it up as much as you want, not just the one time they allow you.

CinemaNow's download-to-DVD uses checksum errors as DRM
Posted by Seán Byrne on 05 August 2006 - 02:19 - Source: TechWeb

When CinemaNow announced its DVD writing capability for movie downloads, it looked like great news for for those interested in legally downloading movies as it would mean giving them the capability to play their downloaded movies in a standard DVD player. Unfortunately unlike music download services that allow DRM-free CD writing, CinemaNow uses copy protection measures deveoped by FluxDVD to deliberately insert errors in the Digital Sum Value (DSV) checksum values to make it difficult to rip or copy. This copy protection measure has a side effect in that some DVD players may not be able to tolerate these checksum errors, which could result in a stuttering image or the disc refusing to play altogether.

Next update will fix the FluxDVD problems, and it will work with CloneDVD as well.

You can buy most old and good movies in Wal-Mart for $5. Even a lot of the newer and better stuff is under $10. I'll pass.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.
