Ok basically ive been having major problems backing up DVD's the last couple days and ive never had a problem ever. It started with backing up X-men 3 it kept cutting out with a programing error, then id hit ok and it would state device removed all files will be deleted. So i wondered if it was just that disk or not and i tried backing up a disk with DVD Shrink that i had just backed up two days ago "thank you for smoking" and AnyDVD the newest version that i just installed came up with an error stating:

Failed to read DVD!

could be the follwoing reasons:

1. dirty media
2.DVD media is damaged you have to repace it
3.Your drive is reagion locked RCP2,which does not allow reading of scrambled sectors from a different region and you try to read a DVD from a different region. ... check here for firmware updates...
4.Your drive is a RCP2 drive which has not been assigned a region, try asigning a region or check for firmware updates.


Well there are no firmware updates its a Matshita UJ-831d drive and its never ever had an update. Its also never been able to burn at 8X like its supposed to except with 2 types of medias and ive tried alot of media. So what should i do??

in AnyDVD you take nr 7 for region
than i think AnyDVD will work correct with your player

if you open AnyDVD by leftklick in the systray
you find in the new window in the down left corner preferences
you click there
in the next window you find region
there you choose the nr 7 not defined (reserved)
and you mark all on this window

tried this and still getting the same error. Its wierd cause AnyDVD used to work with no problems until the last couple updates. Any more ideas?

Pull up your drive in device manager and see what region your set at . Chris
