I flashed the firmware using SLAX. Guess I bought the connectivity kit for nothing. Also bought the DVR-111D for nothing, because my DVD Burner automatically bitsets (with the hacked firmware I put on it). Now I am just waiting for my DVD+R's and Samsung drive to arrive to start backing up my games.

This is completely legal if I own the game, right? I wanna try playing some friends over XBLive. If I borrow them my game, so we can play against each other, I am not breaking any laws?

Hey guys,
According to this tut, you have to read and dump originals with a samsung? Is this the reason why my Hitachi drive will not read an original game while connected to my comp? If so then I'm buying the two listed drives today!

Hi I am having trouble getting the 360 dvd drive being recognized ironically enough I have the identical pci sata card/chipset used in your tutorial connected throught he executer 360 connectivity kit and windows automatically installed the drivers but after having plugged everything in sevwral times and a few reboots I am still unable to have windows xp recognize the 360 drive. I checked around and I have heard that we should be staying away from the 3112 and 3114 chipsets and I actually just found a board that said to stay away from the identical card/chipset I have and you recommended and I will post the link here: http://www.clevermod.com/index.php?article=21 Any help in getting my pc to recognize the 360 drive is so utterly greatly appreciated you don't even know. I will try manualy reinstalling the drivers and see if anything changes if so I will post. -Desperate in T dot O dot

I also have a few questions.

1) When installing the driver for SATA card, I could only install the raid one, as it wouldn't recognize the non-raid one. Is that Ok? Because I would assume you have to install the medley software to enable the raid function still, but I wanted to check.

2) I haven't got my connectivity kit yet, but when you're referring to ejecting the dvdrom when booting windows, is that done by pressing the eject button on the connectivity kit?

I looked at a ton of sites for the Silicon Image SATA controller with 3112 chipset, but it's out of stock everywhere.

What other cards can I use?

Nope, must be burned to single layer

This is a hitachi backup/flashing/rip thread. Better to ask that question to the people who sold you the xeno.

Pretty sure that's my SATA chipset. Correct me if I am not looking in the right place. Can I use my onboard SATA instead of buying the Silicon Image SATA controller with 3112 chipset?

Also what is slax? I didn't see any mention of that in the guide. Do I need it? I also looked for Maximus-Garyopa Xtreme OPA Hitachi firmware version 2.3 and there seems to be a bunch of different versions/revisions. Which one should I download?

One more question, I have a Pioneer DVR-109. Can I use this to burn, or am I going to need the DVR-111D? Thanks again.
The SIL chipset will work 100% with slax. Any chipset that's onboard can be TRIED with slax2 and if it works, well it works. It's just documented that the SIL WILL work with slax. The VIA 6421 chipset works with 0078FK Hitachi drives but not the others and the SIL will work with all BUT the 0078FK drives.

Not sure about your Pioneer DVR-109. If it supports DL discs and booktypes to DVD-ROM then you should have no worries.

That whole article refers to the mtkflash method which only works for Samsungs. Yes, stay away from a SIL chipset if you have a Samsung drive.

1. It doesn't matter as long as you can get windows to assign the hitachi a drive letter (modeB).. Use SLAX to see if that will get you into modeB..

2. Refering to ejecting the DVD drive on the 360.

I need help flashing I've got the maximus-garyopa_xtrm-Hitachi_v2_3_Stealth_Rev2. rar. I also have a Hitachi 47d. I don't understand the part where it says come across the XL folder. I don't see this. I do see the flash 23s.bat but it doesn't have f 1672 knowing that f is the drive leter of the 360.
Thanks

If you extract the .rar file opa 2.3 came as, then it should give you a X-LG folder. If it doesn't, someone may have extracted it and just uploaded the files. In that case, extract the files to your c:\ drive
start/all programs/run
cmd.exe
cd\
flash23s.bat f 0107 (i use the date as the 4 number digit)

I ordered the connectivity kit, so I am not going to need to use SLAX. How do I know my drive is in mode b, when I boot up my computer?

I just updated my firmware on my Pioneer DVR-109 with a hacked firmware that supports bitsetting DVD+R DL. This should work then, right? Wish I didn't already order the DVR-111D...

Also, I noticed there is 2 flashers. FLASH16S.BAT and FLASH23S.BAT. I noticed 1 flashes 2.3 stealth and the other flashes 1.5 stealth. Whats different between the 2? Also FLASH23S.BAT has F900 core. What is it and do I need it? I guess the real question is, how do I know which one to use?

Since I am using the connectivity kit, I don't have to worry about getting the SATA card, right, since it should work with my onboard SATA in winxp? Thanks for all your help.

-Matt

Obtain the opa 2.3 stealth package and unrar it with WinRAR to your c:\ drive
Then run flash23s.bat again

I did d/l the opa 2.3 Than used WinRAR. Still says the same thing. I either need to d/l another file or I'm doing something wrong. I looked at the the folder and there isn't a xtreme file. Is there suppose to be?

I have the hitachi rom version: 0059DJ. When I get my connectivity kit, and go to flash it, am I going to be able to rip a game with that (the hitachi)? I was reading this guide I downloaded, and it says how to extract the SS and then make the game.iso and but them both in 1 directory with isobuilder. Run the isobuilder. This is all with the Hitachi drive. Right after it tell how to do all this and burn the .dvd file, it says this:

REMEMBER: you need a Samsung drive to make the SS file.

Every step they give, they are saying the hitachi, but then right where they say how to burn, they give that warning. So does this mean that you can only rip games if you have the Samsung drive or what? I am confused. I have spent the last few days reading through all this info, so when I get my parts in the mail, I will know exactly how to do it all. Some stuff just doesn't make sense though.

The guide I am refering to is HitachiSamsungTutorialv40Merged.doc. Written by geebee. Good guide, with tons of pics, but like I said, some stuff just isn't making sense, like telling how to rip the game with the hitachi, and then saying that you need the samsung to make the ss.bin file, when they just told me how to do it using the hitachi.

So can I rip games with my hitachi or not? Thanks guys. You have been a big help.

Thanks. Great guide. I will go off this from now on. I just ordered the Samsung DVDrom.

It's expensive now that they discontinued it! Payed twice what it used to cost! I guess it's the only way though, except for the hotswap method which I may try or might just wait to receive the Samsung.

I decided I would try the SLAX method of flashing my drive. I got it into mode B, restarted my computer. Got into windows and started the flash. Next thing I know, my xbox turns off in the middle of flashing. I figure, oh ****, now what did I do? Well I turn it back on and notice the flashing program slowed way down. I figured it froze. So I waited a little longer and then noticed it went to the next step. It ran very slow through all the steps then checked it, and said failed. Started all over and then my xbox turned off again. Now I was getting pissed. Turned it back on. This time it got to the checking part and said passed. Shut down system. I noticed that the power ring on the xbox flashed all red, but thought it was just cause the SATA cable was unplugged in the 360. Turns out, it does this if no video cable is connected and this is why it kept turning off after a while. I read this before doing so, but thought they meant something inside the case, not realizing that the video cable meant the one you connect to your tv.

I realize it said success, but did it really work after turning off in the middle of flashing? It was in mode B when I started and then into step 2, thats when it turned off. I knew it wasn't in mode B anymore, because it would keep spitting out the tray in mode B and it wasn't doing this anymore, plus 2 clicks to open and close tray, wasn't happening anymore either. But after the flashing was successful, I noticed I had to click twice again, to open and close tray, so did it put it back into mode B? I don't know. I guess the only way to know for sure if it worked or not, is to try a backup. Well since I don't have any DVD+R DL, I can't do this. I tried playing a game and it worked fine, so at least it didn't brick my drive or anything. Thanks guys for all the help. 1 problem now. I bought the connectivity kit for nothing, and the DVR-111D for nothing, since my drive CAN do the bitsetting/booktype, whatever its called (with hacked firmware).

Anyone wanna buy either? PM me. Thanks again for everybody's help. Later.
