Hey everyone! :) First post on this forum so hello to all!

Was directed to this tutorial by a friend, so gotta say thanks for posting it up, all looks good! I've just ordered some blanks, the Samsung drive and the connector kit... I'm not sure on the Pioneer drive as I have the latest Sony DVD writer which should be ok? I may order it just to be on the safe side.

The problem I'm having is trying to locate the PCI card... I can't find one anywhere. I live in the Channel Islands so would prefer to get one from the UK, anyone got a link at all? Would be much appreciated.

My motherboard supports SATA, would I be ok to use it like that?? I'm not that technical when it comes to PCs so I'm guessing it would be easier to get the PCI card?

Thanks for any help.

Right don't worry about that, I'm just gonna get the connector kit first and see if my PC will take it, if not, then I'll start looking for the PCI card. I decided to order the Pioneer drive aswell, just incase the Sony doesn't work properly.

I found the SLAX method to be very easy and worked with my onboard SATA. Might wanna try that and save yourself the money of buying the connectivity kit. I also ordered the kit, but thought I would try doing SLAX method, since it was taking forever to receive it.

I also ordered the dvr-111d, thinking my burner, though a pioneer, doesn't support bitsetting. Well I googled a little bit and found a hacked firmware that enables it.

So now I spent $60+ for stuff I didn't need. Oh well. At least my drive is flashed now.

I keep getting a "boot disk failure" error when booting up my PC with my xbox dvdrom attached. I'm using the connectivity kit, along with the sil3112 card.

I've checked all my settings in the BIOS, and even made my harddisk the first boot option. I also tried making my PCrom bootable with xp in it, and it won't boot from that. I don't have an onboard SATA controller. My PC boots fine without the xbox drive connected, so I'm stumped with why this is happening.

I've also tried ejecting the xbox drive as mentioned, but it hasn't helped.

Any ideas on this?

Thanks

1 QUESTION:

I put a hacked firmware that is supposed to auto booktype DVD+R to DVD-Rom, but after burning a backup of mine, it said it was DVD+R DL. Why didn't it auto bitset?

Game still worked though... Weird huh? Maybe you don't need to bitset for some drives? I dunno, just glad it worked.

I noticed a lot of you are using the slax cd method for mobe b. If you don't want to waste time to download it, the two wires method works great and very easy to do. Just make sure you do it right. I have the wires mounted on the outside of my case incase I need to do it again (which I don't cause the open tray trick works now) but I can swap the cable to a friends 360 and do his with a quickness.

1st post here! Just registered.

I look at this link here:
http://www.clevermod.com/index.php?article=10

...and I noticed that I have the Samsung drive. I know this tutorial is for the Hitachi drive, but I don't see one for the Samsung drive.

I'm interested in buying whatever I need to make this possible. I don't know if it'll work, but I currently have several dvd burners around the house:
NEC 3540
NEC 3550
Lite-On SHM-165H6S
Samsung SH-S182M/BEBN

This tutorial is awesome, but I dunno what to do since I'm on a Samsung Xbox 360 DVD drive. =/

Any help would be appreciated. Thx.

Welcome to the forum.
I don't know much about the whole Samsung drive. Any burner that you can bitset with or set booktype with should work. Google it. I found that mine doesn't support it with the regular firmware, but there is hacked firmware that lets me do it. I flashed that, and I haven't had 1 bad burn yet. Media is important though. I found that Verbatim DVD+R DL are just amazing. Pretty much everyone says to use them.

If you don't have a dvd burner that supports bitsetting/booktyping, then they say the best burner to get is the Pioneer DVR-111D. I have a Pioneer DVR-109 that works perfect, and I think is a better drive anyway. I used this tutorial here:

http://www.360mods.net/Downloads/get=61/mirror=123.html

Tells how to open your 360, flash your drive, and backup your games. Best tutorial I have seen out there. Hope this helps.

Good Luck!

Could you explain how I could hack the firmware? I used to flash DVD burners back when they FIRST came out and were $200+, but I haven't since. If you can, please let me know on what bios to flash to and where to obtain the flash tools and files. :)

How do I know if I support bitsetting/booktyping? And I think I can open the 360... I'm actually a computer overclocking guru now for over 4 years. :)

Also, if I wanted to RIP my 360 games, do I HAVE to have this drive specifically? Samsung SH-D162c

I'll flash whatever I need to to help me RIP and/or BURN with what I have, and if that's not possible, I guess I'll have to make purchases. :)

Thanks guys... I'm so thankful.

Well I really need some help if someones got some time ! Im sorry this is sooo long but i felt i had to start from the beginning with this one.

Im just having a nightmare with this and im just about ready to give up after all the wasted discs and time!

I bought a pioneer 111D in an external USB enclosure to use with my laptop which is running media center.
Im using Verbatim DL discs
Im using Clone cd
Ive updated the drive to 1.2.9 pioneer firmware from 1.2.3 and ive also tried the latest dangerous brothers firmware.'
And my 360 has a hitachi drive with the latest garopa firmware.

I Have various games to burn which come as a .dvd file and an iso. So i open up clone CD 5.2.9.1 and have also tried imgburn and DVD Decrypter.
and select the dvd file to burn, this shows this info on the right hand side in clone cd:-

Info on Image File:
Sectors: 3697696
LayerBreak: 1913760

all seems well so i click next, click burn (ive tried 2.4 and 4) the disc burns fine but when i put it in my xbox i get the ungrecognised disk error and open tray message.

Ive followed every single tutorial and i cannot see where i am going wrong. The weird thing is that I have other backups that have been burned by a friend using a 111D and they boot fine.
The even weirder thing was that a few weeks ago i thought all was good as i managed to burn need for speed which booted then top spin which also booted.

The next day i tried to burn rainbow 6 the exact same way and i got the old error in the xbox. So i tried the godfather in DVD Decrypter and the error came up again. Then out of sheer frustration i burned rainbow again in clone and it worked fine !

Now to top it all off i cannot burn games that work anymore and my xbox has stopped playing the 3 backups that i originally managed to burn whilst still playing all the backups from my friend.

Ive checked the discs and theres no scratches and ive kept them all boxed.

Does anyone have any info that could help me? im not far away from lobbing the burner out of my car window at a decent speed.

Thanks

My msn is sez_2001@hotmail.com if anyone has any quick info!

@Godman

You can do a google search to find out if it supports bitsetting/booktypes. Just type your drive in with bitsetting and see what comes up. You may have to upgrade the firmware, or use a hacked firmware, if available. If you can't find anything, then bitsetting is probably not available on your burner.

The easiest way to copy the games to your hard drive (rip them) is to use one of the following DVD-roms with the Kreon firmware:

SH-D162C (IDE)
TS-H352C (IDE)
SH-D163A (SATA)
TS-H353A (SATA)

If you have the Samsung 360 drive, you can use that to rip games. There is also 1 other method that can be done by using the WxRipper program and any dvd-rom in your computer. I haven't tried either of these methods. They are in textbook's tutorial that I posted earlier if you want to give them a try.

I would just spend the extra money and get one of the drives above. They are a little hard to come by now, though, since they are discontinued. Try ebay. That's where I got mine. $60 though already flashed with the Kreon firmware.

Taking apart the 360's case wasn't too hard. The hardest part I think was getting the 7 holes on the back apart. They say you can use keys made from cd spindle casing, but I found it easier to just start at one end and poke in with a sharp object while pulling apart.

Good luck.

hey thanks for the response, PAL!! i spent another 3-4 hours just reading yesterday. i almost understand the whole process top to bottom, as well as all of my choices.

i used wxripper and was able to obtain 3.1gb from madden07, though i'm not sure if it's going to come out good. i said screw it with wxripper b/c it's too tedious to detect the bad sectors and diagnose, and i took the plunge and bought a samsung SH-D162C for $55 shipped.

i even purchased a 20-pack of verbatim DVD+R DL, so all i have left to do is flash the sammie dvd rom in the xbox 360. i'm going to flash it with my dfi ultra-d (nf4 chipset), so i think i have to do the VCC mod. i have a toggle switch at home as well as a soldering station (i'm an ex-hardcore overclocker)... i guess i'll pull out the xbox's dvd rom's PCB and remove the resistor and solder a switch. after i flash it that way (hoping it goes well - tell me anyone on any warnings in the meantime), and then i will probably never have to open the box again.

see, i woulda loved to save $55 and not buy the SH-D162C, but to use wxripper (sounds like it takes up too much time - took me about 2 hours diagnosing bad sectors), and opening the xbox everytime i wanna rip a game is TEDIOUS! and no i wouldn't be willing to keep the xbox open at all times b/c that would be so ugly.

so... wish me luck on the VCC mod flash... i have the skills, but just hope it's as easy as it sounds.

What are you using to rip the games with. If not one of the hacked dvd drives I would get one. I have a few extra if you want need one. I use Xbox backup Creator and Schtrom 360 and work great and burn with image burn. Try using a desktop. Laptops to me seem to have a hard problem with things like this. If this is all you have try not doing anything during the ripping and burning process.

Hi,

Im not ripping the games they are pre patched downloads. The same ones which my friend has burned ok.

My laptop is pretty new toshiba qosmio so it shouldnt struggle with the burning process. Do you think it could be a faulty drive ? or because its connected via USB ? i just dont understand why it burned 3 games that worked.

Why are you using ImgBurn to burn your backups? Backup Creator and Schtrom 360 both can burn your xbox 360 backups. I just what to get this clear before I start backing up my games.

I don't know why they worked and now they don't. My guess is the copies were iffy (not good quality) or your 360 dvd rom isn't that good.

@brewgod
I use image burn b/c. 1)I don't think you can burn with Schtrom 2)Backup Creator gives me an error. Won't even start to burn. I think it can't lock the dvd burner. If yours works and the backups are good then use it. So I just use image burn.

That sounds weird that the 3 games worked, but then stopped working after a while. Did you try using the ones that didn't work on your friends 360? Sounds like your 360 drive is the issue. I had an issue also, where my 360 played a burn fine, but then wouldn't play it a couple days later. I kept putting it in and taking it out a few times, and all the sudden it started working again. Try setting your 360 up on its side if its not, or vice versa and see if that does anything. I don't know what else it could be. Your burner shouldn't be the problem if its pretty new. Hope you figure out whats wrong. Good luck.

Also if anyone wants,

I have a Xeno connectivity kit for sale. $25 shipped Priority mail anywhere in US. Also got the OEM Pioneer DVR-111D for sale. $35 shipped Priority mail anywhere in US. Both are brand new, not even opened.

Private message me if interested in buying either. They are in hand and ready to be sent out.

EDIT: DVR-111D is sold.

Well I got my 360 DVD Drive hooked up to my PC ok via my mobo, guess I was lucky. I tried finding that firmware (recommended in the walkthrough) but couldn't find it anywhere :( so had to make do with some that a guy sent me (works on his apparently). I wasn't 100% sure what to do, so right clicked on the folder with the firmware in, went to command prompt, then typed in the name of the file (xtreme.bat I think), followed by the drive letter, followed by the date (1501).

The process played through in dos, after each stage I had to press return and it would carry on. Out of the 10 or so processes though, it said fail on 2 of them? It eventually came up and said finished (well, after maybe 20 seconds), so I disconnected, plugged the 360 back in and NFS: Carbon (original) played fine.

I'm waiting for my Samsung drive, but does the above sound like it's gone horribly wrong at all? Does anyone have a link to the OPA 2.3 firmware mentioned in this topic at all?

Thanks guys.

Try Xbins. They got it on there. Otherwise, you could try some torrent sites. Not sure if they have it on there or not. I got mine from xbins though.

Thanks buddy, I went for version 2.2 which was easy enough to find... I believe my drive is flashed and ready to go now, just need that Samsung drive which is at the delivery depot, will get it tomorrow.

I have Xbins but it never seems to connect? I just deleted it and went searching instead :)

Hmmm. Not sure what's the problem there. What's it doing/saying on screen? Does it even try reading the Windows CD when you put it in the rom? Did you try the SLAX method? Don't know what else to tell you. Not sure if SLAX will work with the sil3112, but it's worth a shot anyway. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

I was gonna recommend SLAX aswell, would be worth a go mate!

I don't have the PCI card, but does it have different SATA ports on it? Have you tried them all? You could try switching the PCI card to a different slot aswell, or uninstall the driver for it and reinstall it? It's worth trying all of that, see if something fixes it... it can happen.
