Ok can someone help me out. I have the ms28 just ordered the tool to flash it but im wondering how exactly do i play the backup games. I heard somewhere that i would have to take out the hard drive and put it back in for each time i want to play a game or is it as easy as put in the game and it boots up.. (Xtreme Firmware)

you need the xtreme firmware on your samsung 360 dvd
you have the backup of a game PATCHED
you have to burn the backup with bitsetting set to DVD-Rom
and i think that's it...

i got the Samsung SD-162 pc dvd player and just backup up a game last night - SO EASY! well worth the $60 i paid on ebay.

i have the via sata pci card on the way to me to flash my dvd rom in my 360, and i already have dual layer DVDs that i'm ready to burn with my NEC 3540a burner (you can set booktype within IMGBURN)...

i still haven't done it, but i should have it all set to go and working by probably monday.

MY only problem is i don't know how or where to download the games... that's why i bought the sd-162 dvd player... NO clue how to download... had i known, i woulda saved myself the $60.

Hmmm. Not sure what's the problem there. What's it doing/saying on screen? Does it even try reading the Windows CD when you put it in the rom? Did you try the SLAX method? Don't know what else to tell you. Not sure if SLAX will work with the sil3112, but it's worth a shot anyway. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

I don't have the PCI card, but does it have different SATA ports on it? Have you tried them all? You could try switching the PCI card to a different slot aswell, or uninstall the driver for it and reinstall it? It's worth trying all of that, see if something fixes it... it can happen.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I haven't tried Slax yet, because I don't have an onboard mobo or a sata card other than the sil3112, but I will try soon if all else fails. I will try uninstalling the drivers i guess, and use a different comp as well.

The weird thing is, is that the error comes up even if I have the cdrom with xp in it, and as the first boot sequence - it won't even try to read it.

That is a bit wierd... I would go with uninstalling and starting from scratch, just incase.

I got my Samsung DVD drive down last night along with some Verbatim DL disks, backed up GoW and Saints Row and both work perfectly, GoW was fine online too.

Thanks for the guide / walkthrough, and to everyone who helps out on here! :)

I've checked all my settings in the BIOS, and even made my harddisk the first boot option. I also tried making my PCrom bootable with xp in it, and it won't boot from that. I don't have an onboard SATA controller. My PC boots fine without the xbox drive connected, so I'm stumped with why this is happening.

1. I don't think you set the pc to boot from hard disk. Get slax and boot from cd not hard disk.

I would just use the Verbatim's. I never got a coaster from them. Also ImgBurn seems to work the best and its free. Try that.

JUST TO LET YOU GUYS KNOW A FIX TO MY PROBLEM
I had bought the pioneer 111d and updated the firmware.
I had a problem of the burner shutting off my pc completely during a burn.
After many coasters(DVD+R not dl thank goodness), I fixed the problem.
With my pc I needed to use a single 80 pin cable, the one without the primary master and primary slave in one.
After I found that, Works Everytime!

I didn't buy the sata card. My onboard SATA worked fine. I also have the DVR-111D and the Xeno connectivity kit if anyone wants it. I bought both, but didn't need either. Both are unopened.

$35, shipped priority to US (excluding Hawaii and Alaska) for the DVR-111D.

Yes, you can flash the samsung drive also, using a different tutorial. You can also use your 360 drive to read the games to your computer (if you don't wanna spend some extra money). You can use any burner that you can set the bitsetting of DVD+R media to DVD-Rom.

You may also buy one of the Kreon drives so you don't have to take apart your 360 everytime you want to rip a game to your computer.

The best guide available is the guide by Textbook. You may download it at:
http://www.360mods.net/Downloads/get=61/mirror=123.html
Hope this helps. Tells you everything you need to know. Good luck!

not positive on this, but i don't think the one in this guide will work. in textbooks guide, he lists some of the chipsets that will work. listed is both onboard sata and pci add-on cards that will work and also listed are some that don't work. i would just go from that.

i personally couldn't tell you since i have the hitachi.

i just read that the newest 360's may have a benq drive. there is no modified firmware out yet for this drive. hopefully soon. i read that 360's produced after november 2006 will have this drive. mine was just a couple months before this, so i am glad i got it when i did.
