I was attempting to rip Invincible with the latest version of AnyDVD, AnyDVD froze at 1%, so I closed the program and everything seemed fine.

Now my Burner won't read or write any DVDs :(. I think the laser is screwed up now

Sounds like your drive isn't communicating properly with the rest of your system. Try uninstalling it through Device Manager like this,

Start > Control Panel > System > Click the Hardware Tab > Device Manager

Now look for DVD/CD-ROM Drives and expand that tree.

Find the drive in question, right click the entry, select 'Uninstall", then "OK".

Now reboot your system and see if that fixed it.

Tried that, no luck

When I first insert a CD/DVD, the green light blinks a few times and I can hear it trying to read it, and then all of a sudden it just seems to die

Although your thread title is totally inaccurate, you may have a software conflict with some other decoding software. Will your drive run with AnyDVD turned off?

Hmmmm. Here are some ideas you may or may not have tried already,

- If you have access to another PC use it to test your drive to determine if the drive is defective or not.

- If your burner is on your secondary IDE you can try unistalling that using the same steps as above looking under the IDE/ATAPI Contollers entry.

- Be sure to use a known good factory disc for testing.

- Uninstall AnyDVD

- Use some canned air to gently blow out the inside of the drive to clean out any possible dsut particles on the laser lens.

I know some of these seem really basic and stupid but if you do them you'll have fewer variables to deal with.

What make/model drive is it? How old is it and how heavy has it been used?

It's an LG GSA-4120B, about 2 and half years old and I would say on average I would burn a DVD/CD every 3 days.

AnyDVD is uninstalled, tried blowing compressed air into it and still doesn't work

I don't have access to a 2nd PC to try the drive out, AnyDVD also froze my 2nd drive, a DVD-ROM while trying to read the same disk, the only thing is that drive still works after the freeze whereas my DVD Burner just seems dead.

To me it could be that the drive is dead. Or you need to do a firmware update??

Hey guys I think you may be trying to use AnyDVD 6.0.9.6 or newer. If you bought the software no problem, however if you used a cracked exe. or patch, well....... you got what you paid for. Uninstall AnyDVD clean your registry, buy the program and voila, everything returns to normal. Wish all my problems were that easy.

OK, both my liteon dvdrom and my 6 month old nec 3550 drives went south immediately with the last AnyDVD update.

Do note the OP is not a newbie and neither am I.

I do not have a cracked version.

it could be that the laser was going to die on you evetually but when it was reading the movie im thinking you had a high cpu usage or alot of multi tasking and that pulled alot on the drive all the sudden and boom it died? could be a possibility

Although I must admit I can't solve your problem... (I still lean towards a dead drive) I cannot think of one time I have blamed a "legitimate" program, or heard of a "legit" program screwing up any hardware. I think by doing this it shows that maybe you are more of a newbie than you think.

Corizzle,
I wonder, are you by chance trying to read/write DVD+/-RW media with yopur LG GSA-4120? You know, the Re-Writeable Media? I am dedicated LG drive user. I have never seen what you describe exept once when I tried a DVD+RW disc. It was not the drive. It was just the disc. It can also be noted that my GSA-4120 has burned well over 1000 discs and still works perfect. I DO update the firmware according to the instuctions from LGs site. LG does warn you that if it's done incorrectly it can ruin your drive.

The latest firmware is revision 115

corizzle,
i sense it is not legit. un-install it, clean your registry, then get the free trial, and try it again.or you may need to update your drive(s). other than that , your drive(s) is probablly bad.

cracked copy's are usually filled with viruses, and are free to enjoy.

AnyDVD puts a "Restore Point" in everytime it's updated...have you tried a "System Restore" to the previous version?

Any one have any other ideas? I do not use AnyDVD but had the exact same thing happen to me last Saturday. I have an LG - GSA-H10L which is only about 3 months old. I went out and got some Fuji DRV+RW which LG says works in the drive. The drive would not recognize the media, so I tried it in the other computer which also has a DVD Burner the media would not work there either. THat computer which is running a Sony DVD Burner Drive still works fine, but this newer LG drive does not recognize any media at all. No Matter what you put in it, it look like it is going to load up and then just stops.

I have tried removing the Drive from the Hardware Profile and letting it detect it again, and have made sure the firmware was updated but nothing works. Any ideas?
