Well I'm pretty sure you need to disable RAID in the bios. What SATA chip set do you have on your motherboard? What's the screen say when you try to do the steps to put the drive in mode b? It's few a different screens of stuff and it says you can reboot your system when you it's done.

Im not sure about my sata chip but my mobo is the asus a8n sli premium and specs are

http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?model...l1=3&l2=15&l3=0

the screen dosen't give any errors, it asks for a login (after all the loading of slax) and i check to see if the drive is in modeb and its not, even then i've tried to go into windows. i've also tried to get into modeb by using different sta ports and starting with the 360 on. nothing seems to work.

Some of the SIL chipsets can be problematic. You may need to pick up a VIA card. Good news is they are less than $20 shipped.

I would really like some feedback on this problem I am having.

I got my drive into modeb but then I can't boot the pc with the Hitachi hooked up to it. It loads the bios screen and shows the Hitachi on channel 3 as a master but won't go past this point. I also can't get into bios settings screen. If I hot swap the sata plug to the Hitachi when windows is loaded I get blue screen of death and restart.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

okay here is what i did see if it helps , my motherboard as 6 sata ports . i have a hard drive connected to number one if i connected the hitachi drive to number two my pc would freeze and not load up for some reason, but worked fine when connected to sata port 3.

i used slax and the connectivity kit to power and eject the drive although this is not essential just a personal choice .

as all the guides state power on the drive when the cloverleaf loading screen appears then check if its in modeb at the login screen or like me the drive started spinning up before the login screen so i knew it was in modeb when i ejected it.

at the log in screen i simply held ctrl/alt/del to reboot my pc and when the system started to boot i pressed the delete key to enter my bios so i could set it to boot from the hard drive as normal.

this is the only way my drive would stay in modeb and be reconized by windows . :)

This tut is for 0078fk. The 47s can be flashed the old way. I couldn't get a 46DJ to flash with this method either.

You might want to invest in a pioneed dvr 111d to burn. Thats what I use and everything plays fine.

I don't think you need to set the booktype anymore but to be safe you can download dvdinfopro and set the booktype to dvd-rom in that. I have a 47dj also and it works fine with the pioneer and verbatim media so you might also try cleaning your laser.

Please note, I picked up most of this from a post at XS, but it worked great for me. Note some SIL chipsets seem to be problematic for some with this drive. Before getting started you'll need to download the file Garyopa_XTRM-HITACHI_v2_3_Stealth.rar from the usual places. With all that said here are the steps:

What is this file used for? I flashed following instructions and seems to work playing originals at least (Waiting for Samsung drive) but am curious if i maybe missed something. Don't see use for file...

That's just the name of the rar file that contains the firmware/toolbox. You obviously already had it since you said you flashed.

For coryjb69,

The Pioneer 111d automatically changes the booktype to DVD-ROM so you don't have to worry about it.

BTW, great tut Memnock, was pretty easy to follow. Only stumbling blocks I had were that you need to plug in AV wire or xbox powers off in few minutes, and silly fc.dat file in 360 Firmware Toolbox v3.0 that I didn't unzip put in same directory, causing error when trying to flash new firmware to drive, lol newbie mistakes. Looking forward to trying backups as working fine with originals!!

Hey guys, I just attempted to flash my 0078FK drive. I just got into the 360 modding and game ripping/backup, is there any way to tell if my flashed worked correctly without having a backup copy of a game?

yeah @ hckeyfan. I left out the part about the A/V. I figured everyone had that part down, but yeah you definitely need to have the A/V cables plug in.

Also @ zsoltti,

If it says it flashed and retail games work it should be a go.

Great tutorial! However, I'm having a little problem...

I have got the drive detected in my PC, and have used Slax 2.0 to get it into ModeB - it's defo in ModeB cause it takes two presses to close, then opens again, also Slax says it's detected the drive and changed it to ModeB.

When I go into windows I close and shut the drive a few times as it's booting up to get it to detect it.

I get into windows - the drive doesn't show up. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here? I have an Abit IC7 mobo.

Maybe turn off raid in bios if that's an option. Worst case is you may need to buy a VIA SATA card. The good news is they are about $15 online.

no the usb bit wont work if your on board motherboard doesnt work then yes you need a card .... there is a patch though that will allow you to dump and write a game via the x360usb , but its not for general release as of yet

ok i guess ill have to buy a sata card then, what chipset do you reccomend?? As far as burning game ive got the SH-D162C and the 111d so i think im all set on that end. Also on another note, what program do you prefer to burn games, do you use XBC fto rip and burn, or use schtrom to extract and another program to burn??
