The root of your memory stick is the first set of folders you see when you connect your psp to the computer like so:
If something requires you putting something into the root of the memory stick-just drag and drop whatever it is right into the open area..
**EDIT** I should also note that yours probably wont look like this, but it should give you an idea-This is the folder structure for custom firmware 3.40OE-A

Oh, I picked that up a few days ago-got it for dirt cheap! It had 2.82 fw, that I upgraded to 3.40OE- but this one has the TA-082 mobo..The downgrade/upgrade went fine-I thought I bricked it after downgrading to 1.50 because the screen just went black, but I remembered the brightness button trick...I figured I'd use it for my fiddle-faddle, to try out different firmwares and whatnot so I dont have to keep semi-bricking my other one..

$75-no memstick or UMD's though. Just barebones- Came with home and car charger, and a new screen protector, and a cheesy case..SO its good for messing around with I guess...

does this work for a psp that was at 2.81 but is now at 3.03 and on the chip has 1c1003

yes, you would be using the 3.03 downgrader along with your unpatched GTA:LCS to downgrade to 1.50

so which fw version could do the most homebrew stuff??? is it best to hav the 1.50 or go to the highest?

Once you downgrade to 1.5-I would go with 3.40OE-A custom firmware as it is the most recent cfw that is stable at the moment..
1.5 doesnt have very many features-like internet browser,etc..Plus you cant do any customizing of the menu and icons..3.40OE allows you to run homebrew, customize the XMB, and has all the features of the official sony firmware..

Great guide, I was not hopin to ever play homebrew on my psp. And here it is, i have home brew. Thanks a lot.

i had downgraded from 3.03 fw before and it really was'nt that hard just have to name files right and put in the right place... I can't wait to downgrade from 3.50 fw... Only prob is that i can't find upgrade i need to go to 3.50 from 3.11 i have been to links that had it but when i click on it to download it does'nt do anything any help is great i also have the same trouble trying to download the downgrader also do i need winrar you think??after all i will need is 3.40 oe-a cfw lol...

Yeah, you'll definitely need winRAR....So get that first and foremost.
Try this for your firmware update to 3.50...
You might also need this one to downgrade your firmware to 1.50 with the help of the Lumines game...
Oh, and dont forget your custom firmware found here..

hey dEEZ im stuck again...it says to run the UDATE XYZ???what does that mean? under the 1.5 enabler, is a file that says corrupted data? can u help me out? should i re do the whole thing or just start from where im at?

which downgrader are you using again?? you are downgrading from 2.71 correct? have you already ran the 1.5 enabler? the XYZ update is what you run after the 1.5 enabler...which is why is probably showing as corrupted data..
which step are you on??

Ok, so is this downgrader only for a 2.71 and below fw for the TA-082? Because I have a 3.30 fw TA-082, and I was just wondering if a downgrader for that version exists. @itsnotzig-yeah, thats legit..but you need to first upgrade your firmware to sony official 3.50-then you could use that downgrader...There is a patch in that downgrader for your particular motherboard, so its good to use-I should also mention you would need the UMD game Lumines to go along with that downgrader that you posted...
You can find the 3.50 firmware update, and the 3.50 downgrader at psp-hacks.com in the downloads section...

well the thing was i upgraded to 271 then i went through the second step, but before i could finish i was stopped by my buddy becasue he was really busy and could only take my computer then to install Vista, so i decided to wait until i get it back...so wen i got it back yesterday i downloaded those files again and restarted the steps, it was replacing the old files with the same...so i went to the henD but i accidently went to the file under it and go a blue blank screen then it was black, i had to use the brigtness to turn it back on.. after that i ran the 1.5...when it said i can run or something i pressed O...then i ccould not find the UPDATE.XYZ...should i delete everthing and start from scratch or should i follow the 2.60 ta-o82 again also?? im stoopid for not doing it then and there...what can i do???????help me please.

Yes, format your memory stick...and use the 2.71 (TA-082) like this one from the qj.net "ultimate downgrade guide:
2.71 PSP (TA-82 or TA-86)
Files needed for 2.71 PSP
TA-082 2.71 Downgrade Files
1.50 Update
1. Open the 2.71 TA-82 or higher downloaded files and extract all files to the root (topmost folder) of the memory stick.
2.Copy over the 1.5 update EBOOT.PBP renamed to UPDATE.PBP into X:\PSP\GAME\UPDATE\
3. Now exit to your PSP and run HEN D by going to the photo menu and entering the HEN D folder.
Note: For the next few steps make sure your battery is charged to at least 75% and your charger plugged in.
4. Go to the GAME menu and and run 1.50enabler.
Read: The 1.5 enabler will tell you if you can run 1.5 or not. If it says you cannot press X to alter keys, don't continue till it says your settings will run 1.5
5. When the program exits back to the XMB run UPDATE X.YZ.
6. When your PSP has finished downgrading press X to restart your PSP.
7. When you turn your PSP on there will be a blue screen, Press O.
8. Enjoy the new v1.5 PSP!
