Putting up a sticky "How To" and then banning the words Saw 3 sound good. LOL Every time something a little different comes along there's a big stir. When ARccOS first showed it was as bad if not worse. Now they've changed the "flavor" a little and there's this "big deal". This one was solved before the official release. There's a freeware alternative to the retail software. So anyone can do the backup for free. With all the different software, there's differnt alternatives for doing the backup. So, what's really new? We saw the same thing in Talladega Nights, Saw 3 is just a heaping helping of it.

The funny thing is lots of people keep swearing that they got it to work a certain way, yet it was one of the first things I tried and it didn't work.

Then the other funny thing is lots of people will list like 1 thing they tried that was up here, and say they can't get it to work for anything.

Then I go so far as to post exactly how I did mine in simple idiot steps and some people are still asking how to do it. So they must not have read it, because it was real simple.

You have to admit this was one was a major pain in the ass though. I spent a good 3 hours screwing around with this. I'm no noob either, I've been ripping DVD's for 3 years now. I thought Crank was hard. This one made Crank look like ripping a porno.

i had no problems with crank, but i been reading that alot of people have had probs with it. but it looks as tho so far, saw 3 is ripping for me... at 4:30 am here there was sudden updates for RI4M which i downloaded and now its like 32% through and its been only 25+ minutes. not half bad.

i can only cross my fingers and pray that it will completely burn and open in shrink. haha

btw, some people might want to include also which version they are ripping. a buddy of mine ripped the regular version from the Trilogy set and it burned easily enough with just Shrink. i think its the Unrated and the Deluxe 2-Disc set (which i now wish i was ripping because i hear it has great special features) that are causing all this ruckus.

--the new update, WORKS beautifully.

Wasn?t sure what I was going to get, because in the ripping phase, DVD Decrypter brought up a bunch of files not found errors.
But everything turned out fine when I watched the Flik

Guess I was one of the lucky ones. About 25-30 minutes and the rip and cleanup was done. 50 minutes and the whole job was done with Saw III Unrated (Full DVD) backup on a DVD5. We'd discussed the thing so much I knew exactly what to do and what to use for the backup. We covered everything here on the Saw III threads well before the official release. RI4M... ;)

Okay, here is the problem i am having. I get it ripped using RipIt4Me. No problems at all. But when I go to shrink it using DVD Shrink, it tells me that it can't locate the VIDEO_TS.VOB. Well, RipIt4Me never created one. What do I do now?

Thanks for everyone's hard work on this! Keep up the good work!

I thought I had gotten AnyDVD 6112 to work with Recode but after encoding was completed the burn would not procede because th 7 VOB file was missing. Nero couldn't burn it.

Just bought saw3 after hearing everybody was having so many problems
with backing it up. I figured if you could view it on a dvd player or
computer...it could be copied by a simpler method. I WAS RIGHT.
I used AnyDVD 6.1.0.7 running in the background and Roxio Easy Media
Creator 7 as the record program. I went to Roxio Disc Copier and
selected "movie only" the first time and copied disc in temp folder
then burned movie only copy without any problems. It played fine.
I then repeated the process selecting "Full movie" and copied disc
in temp folder then burned movie with no problems. Hope this helps
somebody....Peace out.

Here is what works and a short guide to get the job done. Even the newest beginner should get this one. Now watch someone ask how to do it 2 or 3 posts from now. LOL

The Free way to do DVD backups (Including Saw III:Unrated)
or a RipIt4Me Quick Start Guide.

Round up your Software for the installation if you don't already have them installed.

DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15

DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0

FixVTS Home page or FixVTS at AD

RipIt4Me Home page

With those 4 you can do a high quality backup.

Steps:
1) Install DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter.
Note: Shrink and Decrypter need to be installed before RipIt4Me.
If already installed you're ahead of the game. LOL

2)Use the RipIt4Me installer. It installs RipIt4Me and a version of FixVTS. Let the program install to the default directory (unless there's a particular reason you can't), C:\Program Files\RipIt4Me .

3)Update FixVTS if necessary. The current version for update is 1.6.0.3. Open the FixVTS 1.6.0.3 and copy the FixVTS.exe into the RipIt4Me folder in Program Files to replace the version already there.

RipIt4Me is now installed and ready to operate. If the above steps were followed, the paths in RI4M should already be set. You can check the paths to DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and FixVTS
(Open Logs/Settings - Preferences - Program Paths. See #2 in 2nd image below.)

When in the RipIt4Me Preferences window you can rest the cursor over a setting and a box will open explaining the function. (#1 in image above, cursor isn't visible over command setting, but explanation box is showing. Use this function as much as possible to learn commands for RipIt4Me) Also Reading the short official guide would be a good idea.

Leave the update notification on and keep the software updated for best results.

Hint (nothing to do with RI4M, but a good idea): If you had FixVTS installed before you will now have 2 instances, wherever you had it before and in the RipIt4Me folder. To keep from getting myself confused, I removed an old version of FixVTS I had previously installed. I left the version in RipIt4Me. If you choose to do the same delete the old version and remove any shortcut you had for it. Go to Start/All Programs/RipIt4Me and right click on the FixVTS shortcut and Copy and then Paste the shortcut to the Desktop. This allows you a desktop shortcut for FixVTS when you want to use it without RI4M. You can always access it in Start/All Programs/RipIt4Me, but I like the quicker access.

4)Make sure all on-the-fly decryption software is off.
If you make a mistake it gives a warning.

5)Put the DVD in the drive.

6)Open RipIt4Me and Select Wizard or 1-Click Mode.
I'd suggest 1-Click because it does everything the wizard does automatically.

7)When the Step 1 - Pick Drive, Target Folder and Rip Mode window opens be sure all boxes are checked under FixVTS settings. (Picture above)
If Process in place is left unchecked you will get a backup of your original files from before FixVTS processing. With a 7GB DVD it would take up 14GB on the hard drive. It's optional, some may want the backup files. Remember the backup is the original unprocessed and possibly noncompliant files.
Be sure the Rip settings output is set to what you want.

8)Click Next
Now you wait for RipIt4Me to rip and process the files. The files will be copied to the target Directory listed (or selected) in the Step 1 - Pick Drive, Target Folder and Rip Mode window.

9)The cleaned files will be opened in DVD Shrink automatically.
The quick analysis checks the files for compliance.

If the files open properly, you should have compliant files.

At this point RipIt4Me is complete, it's finished the job of cleaning the files and making them compliant. The files are now cleaned and can be used in almost any editing, transcoding or encoding program.

10) Since the files are open in DVD Shrink and we want a free backup we'll continue on. Remember from this point on it is purely Shrink and nothing more to do with RipIt4Me.
Select either Full Disc or Re-author

11)Click Backup to open the Backup window.

12)While in the Backup Window Check the Quality Settings if the compression is very high. This takes longer but the quality of the video output is better. (Image above)

13)Set the burner option in DVD Shrink for DVD Decrypter.

14)Put a recordable disc in the burner drive and let the drive get ready.

15)Once burner drive is ready click OK in the Backup Window. (Image Below)

Now you sit back and wait for the DVD backup.

Read above and see where you went wrong. RI4M is up to 1.6.5.0 and FixVTS is 1.6.0.3. With the updated software and the guide above anybody should be able to do a Full DVD of Saw 3. I did the full dvd backup using 1.6.4.0 and didn't have any problems, the region 1 Saw III: Unrated.
