Hmmmm, tell that to my standalone player. When it takes well over 1 minute to find and load every titleset, it becomes totally frustrating to the point of giving up. Please explain in simple layman's term why I am having problems playing orginals in the past year. The more encryptions, the more troublesome they have become. I am talking about ORIGINALS not backups.
I'm playing these new releases with both original and copies and I'm not having those problems. If it was a problem with the discs, wouldn't everybody's player be acting up?

On what..meaning what brand player. In my experience Toshiba DVD players have had this trouble I described. There has been a time in the last 5 years where the cheaper brand DVD players played many formats of disc media and the major brands lagged behind and through this time many major brands reluctantly updated their players to play different formats. As if to say they (DVD player manufactures)would NOT support any alternate media except the original movie retail DVD disc. As blank DVD media became available through retailers more and more movies sold on DVD began to have tougher encryption obvious and understandably to prevent piracy of copywritten material, but I would also say with mild regard to what effect the more complexed encryptions had on the DVD's playability. So I take it as you have not experienced this. Believe me, it happens. Here are some original titles I've known this to happen with. "The Constant Gardner", "Above The Rim" "In the Bedroom" and recently "The Decent".:p

I have an older Samsung and a Philips (about 1 year old). I also play movies on other family members' and friends' players. Some recent releases have been Talladega Nights, Crank, All the Kings Men, and Pirates of the Carribbean (2). All have the newer copy protection and none caused a problem for my players. The studios aren't going to make the DVDs to where players won't play them. If they did they couldn't sell them. Sales and a huge class action lawsuit should be good motivation for the studios to keep the product playable.

The original format and still the factory DVD video format is DVD ROM. -R was the first recordable and the player manufacturers adopted support for it quickly. When +R came along support for that was adopted again. In the past 5 years I've run across only 1 player that would only play DVD ROM and it was a free promotional unit that wasn't purchased retail (as in cheap). My old Samsung supports +/-R and the Philips plays almost anything round, including CDs. I just clean the heads occasionally, and in the case of the Philips I updated the firmware once, and keep on playing.

PacMan777,

I did not mean this to go so off topic or get into a debate. What I'm saying is it is happening whether you wish to believe it or not. I don't own a HD TV and really I don't plan on it. I am quite satisfied with what I have. Did you know that the manufacturers no longer supply repair manuals and schematics for free to those that service them? So kiss those new toys goodbye when they fail. We live in a throwaway society and I, for one, am not contributing to it. As for law suits, they do happen......

I'm not saying people don't have problems and the forum is here for the sake of discussion. For the sake of discussion we'll say you're right. If the problem is due to the heavier copy protections alone, then my players should exhibit the same problems. Now you and N2DVD can explain to me why I don't have any problems playing the new releases on my DVD players.

Lots of people don't need help; but that's no excuse for them to take the mick and ridicule you for trying to help. Thank you for your contribution. Maybe when you become more experienced yourself, you can produce guides for ripping and burning any movie. There are lots of methods, and it's whatever works for you, IMO.

Stick around ccblazer, don't let the more ungrateful of the community keep you away.
No one asked for the original poster to leave. And if you're mistaking me for someone being "ungrateful," you are very confused. If anything, I'm more aggravated by the abundance of Saw 3 threads. Seriously, if you search Saw III/3, you will receive so many hits, it's almost impossible to count.

As for my attempts at this title, it can be found here:

alright people, I want a second.. third... fourth opinion. AnyDVD 6107 should handle this movie correct? Also should be able to do it with clonedvd2 along with AnyDVD, or dvdfab decrypter, or DVD Decrypter along with AnyDVD. If all these fail, ya think I got a bad press?

*Edit* alright, I'm trying ripit4me now. I was attempting full disc backup, and after further reading, it appears that ripit4me is the only one capable of full disc at this time.

TO be perfectly frank, I stopped caring about this a long time ago. I have better things to do at present, that are much more pressing and deservant of my time.

@res2cue: RipIt4Me apparently does it fine, according to alcohol.

thanks Ripper. I have to admit, it's been quite some time since any movie had me scratching my head.

Yeah, make sure with RipIt4Me, you have FixVTS installed and up-todate etc. Alkohol has a guide on it.

I'm also having issues with backing up this DVD. I am using AnyDVD with Decrypter and I've ripped the entire DVD to the hard drive first, but Shrink it's not recognizing the disc. I even tried to copy the ISO image to a blank dual layer disc but it gave me an error in the middle of burn.

With Saw 3, if you want to use AnyDVD you need to use CloneDVD 2 with it and select Movie Only.

Guys and Gals
This was the hardest one I've ever had. BUT SAW III and Lionsgate lost. Kudos to them tho. It was fun. Nothing seemed to work AnyDVD(6107) seemed to just keep reading on my benq1650, but my external LG finally got the info on the DVD and I started it to ripping. At the vts_08_1.vob(beginning of movie) it froze. Shrink no go, Recode no go. So I put it back in my 1650 and let it read it. The disc has almost 100 false vobs. The 1650 finally read all the files so I open CloneDVD(Just got it rarely used it)BUT It worked doing the Movie only with 6 channel audio and english subs @100%. Got Clone to create an ISO that I burned with Imgburn. Total time about 30 mins. In all about 1.5 hrs to figure it out and get burned disc. WooHoo!! Bring it on.

@alkohol I would hope you got it done for free. Let us know. because I failed the free part.

If you want the full disc you'll need to run RI4M. I just did the full disc backup of Saw 2 without an error and transcoded and burned it with DVDCopy 5. The entire process took 50 minutes on my PC (which isn't the fastest or slowest). Shrink should have no trouble, it's just slower. Quality settings with Shrink need to be in use because the files are about 7GB for the full dvd.

One more question, when do I use fixvts to fix the VOB file? Or am I thinking wrong here? Because I think VOB08 is the defective file in the disc.

There's lots of bad files in this one. Use RI4M in one click with FixVTS processing selected and you don't need to do anything. The software does it for you. I'm starting to think the wizard is just for those who like to push buttons, like myself. LOL Be sure the FixVTS is updated in the Program files for Ripit4Me. Version 1.6.0.3 is needed for proper operation.

So I am running RI4M at this moment (93% in Decrypter), was I supposed to have FixVTS open also/at the same time? I thought that once the movie is converted into my hard drive, I can use FixVTS to scan the files?...
Thank you for your help.
