The URL exists, the problem is with the forum aplication, that convert url with an error
This is the correct url without http and www
lge.co.kr/open_data/GSA-4040BA301(kw).zip, works fine.

And also here you have the same archive in my server:

Hi all,

to burn at x4 speed, upgrade bios to A301 as you all know. and you should check your E-IDE controller-setting (on M$ Window control pannel). it must be UDMA mode(not PIO mode). if you set your EIDE controller at PIO-mode, your LG-4040b will always burn at x2 speed.

If you set EIDE setting properly, then 4040B's recoding buffer will always keep over 90-95%.

In addition, I'm using LG x4 DVD-R disks. media-code is LGE04, I bought 50 new disks at $63 from ebay(incl/ shipping -but it was back-ordered; the price is very good, however this seller can not be recommended. poor communication, wasted over 16 days). They(disk) work fine as x4 media.

burning time(4.3G full) is 15-17min. and the media-quility is very good. no error.
I burned 4 disks, no problem at all.
In fact, I think they are better than Ritek G04.
lower price, full speed, reliability w/ LG-4040B(because these disks were made by LGE too)

i should also test this media to XBox reading. When i get some additional results, I'll post again later.(from korean users, this media can be read at PS2 and XBOX, like $80(50disk) ritek G04)

cya!

Yeha! Now i'll try it ASAP, because i noticed also that with my princo this reader was only @ 2X :-)

Also, do you think that this will also solve accidental problems in writing/reading from this media (princo 4x) as well?

In fact, i burnt 2 copies of the same dvd, and in both cases it blocks on xbox onto the same scene. removed from the console, after that both dvd-r princo4x also cannot be read on the LG writer again!

I'm so crapped with it...please anyone has a clue for this??
Cheers and thanks again :-)

LG GSA-4040B 4x DVD-R - * SOLUTION *

Upgraded firmware to A301, using FujiFilm DVD-R 4x.

Worked for me.

No BS.

I have following problem with DVD-RAM when I try to copy files to it with explorer...

System gives message that "disc is write protected". Please remove write protection or use another disc.

It's strange because I've not set any protection with WPtool.exe

When I take disc out from LG, put it back, then out and again in - it works. Then I can copy files directly to disc by using explorer (copy + paste).

I've tried format discs with FAT32, UDF1.5 and 2.0. Same results, sometimes works sometimes not. Tried different discs, for example 3 discs from Maxell and one from TDK... but...

---

Btw. when you write cdr-discs with LG, for example 24X speed, how much it slows your pc?

I've 1.6Ghz AMD, 512Gb memory and ... well, computer is quite slow during burning..

Hi there,

so far I've been only able to write DVD-RAMS at 1x Speed, even with Maxell 3x DVD-RAM.
I also have the problem that I only get 2x with Princo 4x DVD-Rs(although the rest of the world seems to do fine on those with A301).
Already upgraded to A301, IDE-Controller is
using DMA, upgraded ASPI-Driver, BIOS is fairly new. Running out of ideas - does anybody have any more ?
Used Davideo 3 Professional(german software) to write DVD-R.
Oh, yes: so far I've only written DVD-RAM by copying files with the explorer(like drag and drop) - is this slower than using a burning software ?

Running Windows XP SP1 on Intel 2,4.

Hi!
I have the same problem as you have lechuck!
When i write DVD-RAM with explorer, i only get 1X. Strange! The media should be certified for 3X. And I have A301.

When I write with Princo DVD-R. Nero says 4X. But it is still burning in 2X.

I am also running out of ideas!

Same problem for me...but i made a decision: i'll never use Princo anymore! Not only for 2x-4x compatibility not certified, and not obtained..but also because ALL of them have come out from LG with bad reading of the last portion of the disc...in other words..rubbish :(

Sorry for that..but i reapeat: Princo no more.

jacobk, I think it was just 1X with explorer. But I'll check again during next weekend..

Have you tried to write DVD-RAM with Nero? It should be also possible. I wonder what could be speed then..

Also this "Disc is write protected" message is very annoying. I noticed from newsgroups that some other people have similar problems with DVD-RAM drives. Not only LG but also with Panasonic.

What media burned with 4040 are more compatible with standalone players? I read in a forum that no dvd+ media burned with 4040 is readable in standalones! Any feedback? Thanks!

I have used 3 brands of DVD-R media that worked fine. Maxell, Ritek and Princo. All of these have worked in my standalone DVD player, but only Ritek works in my friends older DVD player.

I am still looking for the cheapest site to buy the media, so far, I found a site in the States for 100 Ritek Grade A for $126 US. Not too bad right now considering the Canadian $ is doing pretty good right now. I think the site is Run PC , just do a search in Google.ca .

Later all.

jajăo, it depends what's the model of your stand alone dvd-player. I've burned for example Arita 4X DVD+R discs and no problem to play with my Philips DVD.

Ritek G03's work well (2X)and have an error free read curve in Nero CD/DVD speed. The Verbatim 50 pack, barcode no. 23942 94584, are Ritek G03's. Verbatim also uses Tayo Yudan and CMC among others.

I have a lg4040b A300. I have found that pine DVD-R 2X suck crap and Verbatim DVD-R made by CMC suck ass too. I have burnt a couple Verbatim DVD-RW and those seem to have no problems. Haven't check on who manufactured the RW's. They all skip in my ps2, zenith dvd player and apex dvd player. These dvd burner is starting to piss me off. Anyone know of any good dvd media in canada (where to buy) and that works PERFECTLY for dvd movies without skipping and has tested this more than 20 times?

I have sucessfully burned at 2x on Mirror Platinum x4 -r disks they do not burn at 4x. TDK x2 DVD-RW work a treat, and do not appear to skip during playbck unlike the Mirror disks. The memorex 1x DVD-RW do not seem to work. I have ordered some Trexdata x4 (Ritek G04's) to try as these are ment to be really good quality. (Using LG GSA4040B)

TDK 2x 4.7GB DVD-R actually show and burn at 4x in Nero 6 with LG GSA-4040B and A301 firmware.

Don't ask me why they would understate the speed on the packaging, but I bought 100 of these discs and have burned 25 now at 4x without fail.

This burner rocks, if people choose to pay more for the Plextor, or Sony, or whatever, they're not getting more.

It would be a big help if people would use either Nero's CD/DVD speed or the free DVD Identifier http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/, to show the actual disc maker, as Verbatim, for one uses 4 different manufacturers. And if you are interested in using the best match media use Nero's CD/DVD speed tool on a DVD you have burned to do a Transfer Rate test. The 2X Princo's I have burned show a slight read error (drop at the end of the graph), but the Ritek G03's read correctly form start to finish.

The best discs I have used so far are DVD-PRO DVD-r 4x from SuperMeadiaStore. Price is $26 for 25. I used DVDinfopro I found they were made by Princo. I guess Princo uses better quality on these bcuz copy and burning took all of 15-20mins total. All 25 discs burned perfectly and work in PS2, XBox, anything. But if you still like regular Princo DVD-r 25 pack is $23, the cheapest around. PEACE
