Lol i see mate, but they wont brick the drive though? They will either flash or not flash i take it? You said :
SIL3112 works perfect for all hitachi's except the 0078/0079FK
So if i had one of those drves the SIL3112 sata card would brick them? or just fail to flash it?

A SIL3112 will fail to flash every Samsung in existance. It will also fail on Hitachi 0078/0079 with Firmware Toolbox 3.0 Maybe it will flash a 0078/79 at a future date but not right now. It's also a totally different flash process between the Samsung/Hitachi and Hitachi 0078/0079's

When you do the mtkflash read command you specify what file name you want it to be. example
mtkflash r /m /sata lookhere.bin
mtkflash r /m /sata iamoriginal.avg
I don't know what file extension it puts if you don't specify one yourself.
As long as the file is readable in fw toolbox with a valid key and the file is 256KB then you should be ok.. Never seen this problem before so...
We got the AVG file extension from doing the samread samhack method and that is the extension it put on the origs. Done 5 boxes this way I just wanted to try it your want to update but wanted to make sure it will work. FW Toolbox reconizes it 100% with a valid key.

I Have The Same Problem As Hakentt And The Advice That Was Giiven Did Not Help....The Green Light Constantly Flashes I Have A System Error E65 And I Don't Know What To Do. The First Time I Tryed To Flash It The Floppy Fail So I Had To Abort And Now I Don't Know What To Do And My Disc Tray Won't Open The Drive Doesn't Even Spin Can Someone Please Help Me...
My problem is that after mtkflash command instead of getting "xtreeme primary" I get "dC 00, Master/slave a0" and thats all, it stops there.

What drive does not spin? On Xbox or your PC? Did you get to the point where you have read the bin file from Xbox samsung drive? You need to explain your problem in detail if you want to get a good answer.

The ones that use Xbox console as power source for samsung ms28 DVD drive I heard that if you keep the video plug off the Xbox console that Xbox will not power it's dvd rom. so... Plug the video cable into your Xbox but they don't have to be plugged into TV when flashing from PC to ms28 drive that is powered from xbox console.

I Had The video cable pluged in the floppy disc failed now i have an Error E65 When I Turn My System on And I Know Every Step To Flash It But It Will Not Flash the green light flashes constantly i don't know what to do i guess i will have to go on ebay and buy a new ms28 drive

Do you have the original firmware? If you do, then follow the guide but DO NOT do the 10 second trick.
Brief explination
Plug everything up and turn on the 360
Turn on PC
Boot to dos and type mtkflash w /m /sata orig.bin
Select Xtreme Primary
It will then flash the orig.bin file back on the drive. When everything is done, test.

As far as I heard Xbox codes the drive to the console so if you get another ms28 drive it will not work. There are Xboxes out there selling for $50 with the same problem, original bin file was lost. I don't understand what are you talking about anyway, you are probably too young to do this. The MS28 drive will still work unless you flashed it with bad flash, but seems like you did not even get to the point where you have read your original bin file from the drive so thats why I don't understand you, I think you are just a spammer!

Thanks alot for the guide PS2Menace this is by far the best guide I've read & the pictures helped alot. I finally sucessfully flashed a Samsung ms28 drive. The only problem I had was getting the VIA 6421 card to work in my PC, my computer wasn't picking up the card for unknown reasons but I tried it in another PC with success. When I cut the Xbox 360 on first the VIA 6421 drive scan would give me a error so I powered on the PC first then the Xbox 360 when at the mtkflash screen. So for some it may be usefull to turn on the 360 when you get to the DOS screen or mtkflash screen.

Ok, this is not working. I did everything on this tut but after I select my xtreme master where my 360 is hooked up i do the 10 sec. trick and all i get is that fe00......... message. I know that my computer reconizes the 360 is hooked up. why am i getting that message and why isnt it reading my flash? what am i doing wrong? 360 on then pc then boot disk then mtkflash then select xtreme master port then 360 off plus ten sec. and 360 on then nothing. Help thanks

Wrong order.
360 on then PC with bootdisk
mtkflash
when you see xtreme primary master turn 360 off
select xtreme primary master
count to 10
turn 360 on

I Know How To Flash The Firmware I Did It Once Before On My Old 360. But Now I Did The samread part the when i got to samhack it started flashing but when it got to rank3 it saide error or something like that. i still have my orig firmware but it won't let me re-flash It Just Get's to the part after i turn off the 360 select xtreme primacy then wait 10 seconds then turn the 360 on and it does nothing...

wth i hate the sam shit w/e it is! here is the guaranteed way unless ur hardware is not working. i would stick with the following:
mtkflash r /m orig.bin
now take this and make it into a xtreme 52 using the makextremefirmware.cmd within the xtreme 52 folder.
next type mtkflash w /m x52x.bin
use the 10 second trick
x is whether its a b c or d
thats all ur done

omg!!! DO THE FOLLOWING
mtkflash commands are simple and sensible! unless you are to cheap to reboot i think it lets you do a full flash in one boot to dos? i think its only for xtreme 3.2 since you can't really ad the haxed file in their since u need ur original to make it.
do the following:
in dos:
mtkflash r /m orig.bin
now go to windows and take ur orig.bin which you will find in ur usb key or floppy (which ever u used) and put it in the xtreme firmware folder.
use the make xtreme firmware.cnd in the xtreme firmware folder to make x52x.bin (x is which one u choose a, b, c, d). take this, ull find it in xtreme folder, and put it in ur usb key or floppy (which ever u used)
boot to dos and in dos:
mtkflash w /m x52x.bin (use the 10 second method for ms28)

o shit, sorry ur problem might be that you don't have an optical drive with mediatek chipset. 99% of cd dvd roms have it. i had the same problem until i put this philips drive i had and it worked.
PPL ALWAYS SKIP THIS BUT THEY GET LUCKY!
for me i wasnt't lucky!! after the philips drive 10 second trick worked perfectly!

MS28 flashing steps with mtkflash commands:
use xtreme bootmaker and make a bootable usb or floppy (floppy is risky)
boot pc with floppy
once in dos turn on 360
type: mtk r /m orig.bin
when it asks to select 1 2 or 3 then turn 360 off
now select the right one (idk if urs will be 1 primary or 2 or 3)
wait 10 seconds after selection
now turn on 360 it shuld start flashing!
if it won't work then : you don't have a via 6421, you didn't make ur bootable disk properly (look at steps at beginning of form), you don't have a mediatek optical drive (try connecting other cd dvd roms lying around ur house), you are not good with the timings (try 12 seconds or 8 seconds), i can't think of anything else.
ppl cry that u don need mediatek but their stupid and don't realize it is in their cd dvdrom w/e. u get unlucky if u don have on in urs, look around for random drives and try them. i had same problem where it seemed 10 second trick was not working but its actually the mediatek chip!

after making bootable and getting in dos do the following
do the following:
mtkflash r /m orig.bin
now go to windows and take ur orig.bin which you will find in ur usb key or floppy (which ever u used) and put it in the xtreme firmware folder.

Iv'e tryed all these things the first time i tryed to flash my 360 the green light on my 360 wasn't flashing but now it flashes constantly and it takes a longer time to shut off i have my original firmware i tryed over and over to re-flash it but it just stays on the part after you select xtreme primacy I get "dC 60, Master/slave a0".

You must specify the /sata switch if you're using the VIA 6241 card
Also, I've had a lot of MS28 drives that wouldn't flash unless I turned the 360 ON before booting the PC.

I've heard that card doesn't work 100% of the time. Also make sure you have the latest drivers from http://www.viaarena.com

Hope someone can help me out here.
I have the sata card on order and was have prepared my usb drive with the necessary info. My issue is that I cannot seem to boot from a flash drive?? It's an older dell with A08 bios; I don't have the option to select flash drive. Can anyone let me know what I need to do.
