I have the sata card on order and was have prepared my usb drive with the necessary info. My issue is that I cannot seem to boot from a flash drive?? It's an older dell with A08 bios; I don't have the option to select flash drive. Can anyone let me know what I need to do.

Thanks
Well you need to use a floppy disk then, if you don't have a floppy drive in your PC you need to buy one and get a new floppy disk. Floppy Drives = $10 Floppy Disk = $4 or less Floppy Cable = $2

Make a bootable floppy disk that is what I did since my cpu would not boot from a usb stick at all the disk work the same way

Can You use one of the external ports to flash the 360 or do you absolutely have to use the internal 1

On the card that I purchased I had to use the internal sata port the cpu did not see it when I used it on the external one, but using the internal one is no big deal just run a sata cable to the card and to the dvd drive and that should work fine

if it is not in ur bios option call dell support, most probably ur scrued and will have to stick with a floppy.

As long as you use a NEW floppy disk on a half-way new floppy drive, then it shouldn't fail. I've always used a floppy and never had one fail yet.

Thanks fellas, appreciate the advice. Unfortunately my floppy has been outta commission for a few years.... Should anyone come across a link to update my bios, please let me know. In the meantime I will contact Dell.

I really don't want to buy a POS floppy drive for this excursion... wanted a good excuse to buy a new laptop anyway.

Thanks again
Johnny.

Hey PS2Menace have you been able to extract the ss.bin, pfi.bin and dmi.bin using a MS28 drive? For some unknown reason I can't extract any of them using my Xbox 360's Samsung MS28 drive. The drive is detected by windows but it won't extract any of the security sectors, Schtrom360Xtract just freezes and doesn't extract anything. Is it even possible to extract using the MS28 drives?

I know it's possible because I've backed up one entire game successfully. I haven't tried but that one game. I used Sxhtrom360Xtract 3.1

i turn the xbox on and then the pc and the sata card gives me that

I was getting the same exact error "hardware failed to initiate" when using that card. It's a very easy way to get around that....don't cut the Xbox 360 on till after the hardware scan is over. I didn't cut the 360 on till after I got to the DOS screen & then I followed the rest of the tutorial and it sucessfully flashed my MS28. So that's how you get around that problem.

i tried that and got this new error as soon as i power up the xbox.
i was in the boot disks dos prompt , then turned on the xbox.

an internal stack overflow has caused this session to be halted.
change the stacks setting in your config.sys file, and then try again.

UPDATE-
i got it to work!!!!!!
i used another computer, and it worked fine.
both pc's were very similar, not really sure what made it give that error before.
thanks for everyone who has contributed to this thread!

For anyone else who has the stacks error message and doesn't have access to another PC, try this
When you get to dos and the A:> prompt, edit the config.sys file by typing
EDIT CONFIG.SYS

Then add the following line
STACKS=90

Save as config.sys

Reboot and try flashing

I have tried not turning the box on when im at the dos prompt to start running MTKFLASH commands but when i do this the _ immediatley jumpes below the C:\ prompt and flashes for i think erternity!

I have the 6421A card, and an ASUS A8N-SLI Nforce 4.

i don no y a lot of ppl dont do this:
TURN ON THE 360 AFTER U BOOT INTO BIOS:
next type: MTKFLASH R /M ORIG.BIN
NOW OPTIONS THAT U HAVE TO PICK 1, 2, or 3
TURN OFF THE 360
CHOOSE THE RIGHT ONE IDK WHICH ONE U WILL HAVE TO CHOOSE I THINK THE RIGHT ONE IS CALLED XTREME.
AFTER CHOOSING IT TURN ON THE 360 AFTER 10 SECONDS.

im not sure if this is ur problem. try removing other hard drives or something that can be interfering.and keep a cd rom. u usually need a cd rom with a mediatek chip, 99% of them have it.

p.s sorry for the CAPS lol

MMmmm

The problem is i cant get that far with the Xbox on, i either get the bios not be installed, or when i get to the command prompt from my bootable drive it doesnt detect the chipset. Is that because the bios not be installed?

im not sure what you are saying.

did u disable raid in bios?
did disconnect other sata stuff?
did u turn 360 on after entering dos?
did u connect ur sata cable from the via card to the 360 and did u make sure the power for the 360 drive is still connected?

In answer to all of the above YES. And i still have the same problems. This is my setup ASUS A8N-SLI Mobo which has a Nforce 4 Sata Chipset. There are four onboard SATA sockets in total.

Sucess with chipset provided on Mobo-
Should this chipset work? Is HEX Editing requried of can xtremebootmaker create a working MTKFlash file? I aint a clue but just tried this, booted into CMD Prompt and i get further this time, either with the 360 on before i turn on the pc or when i turn the 360 on at the CMD Prompt then there is no Underscore jumping to the line below C:\ and flashing for ever. It appears to work. I enter MTKFLASH R for example and i get Cannot Detect A Drive, is this where the HEX Editing comes in? If it does i cant handle the head mash again!

OR

I have a 6421A SATA/RAID Card, with this being if the 360 is on before the pc it hangs for a while and gives Hardware Initiate Failed, please check device!!! The bios does not be installed. Press G to continue. Press G and is goes to CMD Prompt but cannot detect the 6421A Chipset? OR if i turn the box on at the CMD Prompt i booted into, the flashing >>_<< (underscore thingy!) jumps to the line below, like this

C:\
_ <-----------Just flashes here

Im having a proper nightmare here, if my NForce four chipset work, is it hex editing i need to be concentrating on?

Thanks Folks

Tommy

Also

When i diabled everything, and just used the card i got this far

Xtreme Pri Master
Xtreme Pri Slave
Choose One Drive
Port 9F0 Master Slace a0
Status=51, should be 70

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

stick with diabling everything and use the via card cuz that onboard will not work.

boot do dos with 360 drive connected.
turn on 360 when in dos
type: mtkflash r /m orig.bin
turn off 360
select 1 or 2 (idk try them both xtreme ones)
turn on 360 after 10 seconds try 12 seconds too it works for some ppl.
shuld flash now

if it doesn't then one problem i had was that it would give weird numbers like 00600x error or something that happens if u don't have a cd dvd drive with a mediatek chipset a lot of drives do. so i looked around my house and got this LG drive the worked no problem!! people often ignore this!

im sure it was just like yours:
Port 9F0 Master Slace a0
Status=51, should be 70

except i think the port number was different but a0 was defentiely it.
k best thing look for a drive with mediatek chipset!

ppl try another pc and think its their pc but its usually always the cd dvd drive chipset try getting mediatek 90% have that chipset.

hopefully this fixes ur problem! i went mad seeing the a0 number shit daily!

Hey guys this tutorial looks good i am trying to use it, but i seem to be having soem trouble ok i used Xtreme bootmaker to make my USB Jump drive everythign is good when i press Prepare drive i get this error " Windows- Drive not Ready : The drive is not ready for use; its door may be open. Please check drive and make sure that a disk is instereted and that the drive door is closed." Then i have 3 options
1. Cancel
2. Try Agagin
3. Continue

I have tried all 3 the only one that does anything is the CONTINUE button it goes and makes all the files on my USB drive jsut like on the first page. Now i think it works so i shut off PC and unpludded every hard disk drive i got and all my dvd rom drives and Burners. Onyl thing i got on is my USB so i turn on my PC and it goes to this screen that says Press F1 for setup and thats all that happens... I press F1 look around nothign so i exit and goes to that same page. I plug everythign back in turn PC on and it reads all my hard disk drives and Burners and MY USB drive which is at G:\ and then it goes to a blue screen saying needs to check disks from ym G:\ drive says everythign passes and then loads up my Windows Xp. I have the same SATA card as on the first page. So any help would be great lol. I seen that soem1 else could not load into DOS from USb and some1 mentioned maybe he needs a floppy disk. Well if that is my case then i can do it i got a Floppy frive, just thought soem1 might know how to fix this or if thats the reason why i cant get into dos from USB ok well thanks again guys.

Have you checked your hard disk boot priority as well? What Motherboard do you have? If you have more than 1 hard disk installed it could be 2nd down your list?
