question about flashing a broken drive
my friend's 360 dvd drive won't read discs. is it possible to re-flash the drive with the mod and use it, or is the problem most likely something with the lens. is there a way to tell without breaking the seal?
thanks
and good tut

u can't tell without trying...
most prolly the lens cuz the original firmware should not cause reading problems after a while.

I have a MS28 and I was trying to flash it with the Xtreme53 fw but everytime i type mtkflash w /m /sata x53a.bin i get the following
drive scanned
1 XTREME Pri Master
Choose one device
so i pick 1 and then it says
port: efa0, Master/Slave: a0
Ive used the sata card before to flash from my original to the xtreme 52 so i know it works but between me flash it and now i had did a clean install of vista and now back to xp so no idea what could have happened.
Both my dvd drives are unhooked from the ide cables because before that it was giving me 2 other options 1: IDE Sec Master & 2: IDE Sec Slave and then 3 was the XTREME Pri one from above.
Any help would be great.

When you see the option for xtreme primary master, turn the 360 off.
Select xtreme primary master, count to 10 and then turn the 360 back on. :)

I'm trying to flash a ms28 and when I type mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin, i only get MESSAGE SAYING "no drive detected". I am using a 6421 card on the inside and outside SATA ports. What could be causing this?

Use the SATA port that's inside the PC, the one labeled SATA1.

I actually has three SATA ports on the card. One external and two internal. I was over looking the second internal port that was the closest to the front of the PC. I switched to that port and it corrected the problem. Thanks

I got that message too. It's ok and will still work correctly. The thing to remember is to flash that drive as if it is a ms28, using the bad flash recovery method by unplugging the drive for ten seconds. Even if it is a ms25. The only way that you would use the ms25 flash only is if you have a 25 drive that has never been flashed before at all. If you have a ms25 and flash it with the old 52 firmware, it changes it to a ms28. Thats why a previously flashed drive would now the ms28 flash method. And also use the old Bootmaker program 3.6. Dont use the new one. Mine flash perfectly this way using a NEW floppy disc.

That's because it's not updated with xtreme 5.3 data. This happens on older versions of xtreme bootmaker.
