I think you misunderstood somewhere in there, if you go and buy just any PSP, then you'd need to get yourself a Pandora Battery to get it to custom firmware.

PSP, all the way from 1.00 to 5.50 GEN D2 - DS Lite w/ M3DS Real (M3 Sakura v1.34)
PS3 3.01 - iPod Touch 2G 16GB Jailbroken - Xbox 360 60GB - PC, Q6600, 3GB DDR2, GTX260 (216) 896MB

Oh... right. So if I buy any PSP the only way I can use it with downloaded games is to downgrade it to 1.50 firmware? But some can't be downgraded from what I understand...

Hm, now I understand why you said to buy one that's already modded.

Any PSP can be downgraded, it's just a lot easier or your part if you start with a PSP on 1.50 or a custom firmware.

Never will be.

Check your UMD mode, if it's UMD Required then you'll need a UMD in the drive whilst you play ISOs/CSOs.

I am having this same problem!!! I have been running 3.03 OE-C for about a and a half now. I lost my psp last august and just now found it, so i decided to play madden 07 (yeah it's been that long), but when i started to play it, it starts up then fails and reads "The game could not be started. (80020148)" Ionno what's goin on. Ive gone into the recovery menu and enabled "Use NO-UMD". I don't have any more UMDs cuz i gave them all away since i lost my psp last summer, but I know it works cuz i always used to play it. Any ideas?

You need to update your firmware-I am sure that game requires a higher firmware that what you are rolling with now. If you have your 'no-UMD' set correctly it should work fine, unless you have a bad rip of that game. But I would update your firmware before you do anything else.

Hi all
I know it gets asked all the time, but I'd judt like a couple of simple answers to get me on my way if possible.
I have a fat PSP FW 1.50, bought a few years back which is just sitting here staring at me, willing me to use it.

How do I play downloaded ISO games (which I obviously already own the originals of) on my PSP.

I've tried using Daxziso to boot games (which requires me to convert the formats of the ISO's with dax creator 0.3 in order for them to play, if im doing it right?)

I've had a few successes (Lumines, bleach 1 and 2, world series of poker, wipeout pure) but most other ISO seem to just make the PSP hang up or shut down when i try to boot them.

Is there something I'm missing?

Looking at the rest of this thread seems to suggest other methods of booting which are much more simple, will my (original) FW 1.50 be able to use these simpler methods or is it just for those downgraded PSP's.

Do I assume I have to use one loader for some ISO and one for others?

Is there one that loads more than others?

Is there a list specifying which games require which loaders (I don't mind trying them myself trial and error but I'm never sure whether the ISO's I have are buggered or not)

Any help any of you have would be greatly appreciated. You could come round my house and shag my sister, if I had one. I have 2 brothers, the choice is yours.

Thanks in advance,
Sam

since u have 1.50, the best way is to upgrade to a custom firmware. Upgrade to 3.90 M33
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/616311

After that, put ur iso or cso into the ISO folder. Dax are not allowed, so u have to convert them back

I've just tried doing that from the link you gave me and when i get to step 3 of the install, i.e. when i'm supposed to run:
3.52 M33-4 UPDATE, it isn't an option on my memory stick. it has the other icons but not this one. There is a section of corrupted data on the disk...?
I've used 2 different memory cards as a tester but they both have the same results. Is there anywhere I can download this file so i can stick it on my memory card. Or id there anywhere else I can download the entire installer from a different source.
Any ideas? Sorry to be a pain mate

Congratulations, you just opened up a PSP game. If it isn't an ISO, then just rename the end to .iso (Make sure known file extensions are NOT hidden) and see if it runs. Other then that, recompile it with something like UMDgen.
I am having the exact problem this guy had. Which file exactly do you rename? I'm assuming after you rename the file by adding ".iso" at the end you place it in your ISO folder on your memory stick?

Thanks for the guide. I did a search on google trying to find answers for the same question. I ended up totally confused by the firmware versions, tools needed. In the end,I bought a PSP 2000 from www.yeedong.com, which plays backed up (copied) games out of box! The psp also comes with bundled games. What a bargain!

Enjoy your PSP!

The only reason why I made this guide is becuase I'm sick and tired of all these noobs asking, ''How do I put downloaded games on my PSP?''. Well, to all the noobs out there, here's the guide. Remeber, this ONLY works on 1.50 and/or DAX Custom Firmware.

1.50 Guide:

What you will need:

UMDEMULATOR V0.8c: http://psp.console-tribe.com/downloads/f...ulator-08c.html

DevHook (for games that require FW higher than 1.50).

1. Download UMDEmulator

2. Copy the UMDEMULATOR folder to the ROOT of your Memory Stick (X:/).

3. Then, go in the PSP folder, then GAME, and you'll see UMDEMULATOR and UMDEMULATOR%. Copy those to the GAME folder of your PSP.

4. On the root of your memory stick, create a folder named ISO. Place your PSP ISO's there.

5. Launch DevHook. Then, launch UMD Emulator, and say you want to play Need for Speed Underground: Rivals. You need DevHook 0.22 for this.

6. In UMDEmulator, press X at NFSU: Rivals.

Happy gaming!

Guide for 3.XX OE-X:

What you will need:

Nothing, except your PSP.

1. Create a ISO folder on the root of your memory stick. Place your ISOs there.

2. Quit to the XMB, and play!
